See the mighty wild stallion Thor as he helps lead stallion Talequah take care of their colorful band of mares in the hight desert of Wyoming. It's a constant job to keep the mares together and fight off any bachelor stallions who may get too close to thei band.

    It is psychology at it's finest. Two standing of a couple of dozen. The second in command doesn't get to breed until he decides to take on the boss, but they only do it one at a time in a real fight. The bachelors are always trying to cut out mares from the herd and make their own harem. They will sneak in and steal them when the stallion is fighting a Johnny come lately.

    Just happened onto this vid. Fabulous horses! Chunky with lots of bone. Living as horses are meant to live. Horse Law! If a horse is coddled and not raised in a herd, it never learns horse law. A horse knowing it is much easier to train, provided the trainer also understands horse law. Horse already knows it should do what its told. But are they mustangs or is this private enterprise? What a great way to raise horses - survival of the fittest. Greetings from Australia.

    Well that would only happen if the band were rounded up but fingers crossed that never occurs. Though if there ever comes a time when you have the right circumstances to adopt a mustang please please don’t take the BLM’s AIP money(they pay adopters around 150 dollars when you take a mustang)but this has lead to so many horrible situations for these horses of people pocketing the cash and then instantly dumping them in the slaughter pipeline or keeping them in deplorable conditions not fit for any creature. So please take your time do your research and learn what your getting into when and if you decide to get a mustang because they deserve to be treated well.

    I understand that having 2 stallions would be an advantage in protecting the band but what is in it for the junior stallion. If he is just waiting in the wings for a chance to stage a coup why would the lead stallion allow him to stay.Also, how was he chosen to be the junior?

  • @karenkingart

    @karenkingart

    Жыл бұрын

    Good questions. The second in command, or lieutenant stallion is able to do what he does best...move and protect the mares. I'm sure a coup is always in the back of his mind. One stallion alone would have a difficult time holding on to a dozen mares with so many bachelor stallions on the hunt. It's a team effort.

    We cannot lose his genes!!! Sabinos are not that common. He really needs his own mares to do this job. I think that's what makes me mad the most when they do round ups. They don't even think about the bloodlines or genetics of these horses. We've lost so many colors from the Mustang breed. I'm also sick of people not recognizing them as purebred, because even in private horse breeding 4 generations is considered registerable as a breed. I really hope advocates can start using bloodlines and colors and patterns to preserve and release any adult stallions and mares with these unique traits so future generations keep it alive and well.

    Beautiful herd! How much Spanish mustang is in the genetics? It doesn't look like much. The pintos are beautiful but largely the (European) tobiano spotting pattern, with the typical colored heads. To me they look more like domestic farm horses who escaped. I used to see herds of wild Spanish Barb Mustangs, so I personally like the wild markings that occur among Spanish Mustang herds. Talequah definitely does not have Spanish mustang spotting genes. Thor comes the closest with his jagged spots and lot of white on his head. I would like to see Thor be the breeder. 4:44 Enters from the right: one horse in the bachelor stallion herd that has more white, white on the face and more interesting markings.

    The younger stallion is probably one of his sons are a stray one that has been in the band usually though when they get older and they’re waiting from their mothers is the head stallion Burnett and she’s of the bag runs them off and they usually the young male stallions until they can win a harem of their own of mares band together until they can do so is how this works otherwise the other stallion has to fight the main stallion for dominance in control of the herd and run the old stallion off
