ABOUT THIS VIDEO
Pelvic rotation can be caused by bone differences. Twisted pelvis can be caused by muscle imbalances. To fix pelvic rotation, you need to retrain the muscles that cause twisted pelvis. Even if you have a bone difference, you still need to use exercise and stretching to fix your twisted pelvis.

    It happens from time to time throughout my life. Usually exercises, chiropractors, and patience help to eventually bring everything back into balance. Last time, nothing worked. Then one day I put on Latin music, and danced Salsa to it. Bingo! Within a couple of minutes my pelvis was finally pain free again, and back to normal! Thanks Matt. Good as always!

    10 years ago, through medical exams (with x-rays first, but then was confirmed by a chiropractor , a podologist and a sport doctor). At that time, I was in military school and one morning, woke up with a bruise on my front left side. I couldn't raise my left leg. The doctor didn't talk about rotation but about one leg longer than the other and that it was likely that I was born with it. Surprisingly, when I talked to my mother, she said that she had the same issue and one of my brothers discovered he had the same problem through similar circumstances. However, the different between us three is that my brother has chosen more invasive medical procedures. Now he can't stand that long, has to wear orthopedic shoes and suffers from knee pain. He doesn't do any physical exercise. My mother decided not to do any medical procedure. She keeps an active lifestyle (meaning house chores, working in a kitchen, walking the dogs...) but sometimes feels back and knee pain. I got some physiotherapy to get rid of the hip pain and it took me 6-8 month to regain my initial mobility with that hip. After finishing my service, I developed knee pain at some point, but refused medical intervention (i.e injections). Eventually, I resumed physical exercise, added yoga training with an active lifestyle and things eventually got better. Now in my 30s, I feel pain when I sit too long, so it pushes me to move. So yeah, an active lifestyle can make a big difference.

    My problem with the single leg work is having bi lateral dysplasia, & bi lateral FAI when I work with single leg work I aggravate my psoas on the right as its constantly trying to stabilise my pelvis, I have a right side hip hike & internal rotation, its not overly noticeable. I overwork my TFL, as my glutes/hamstring/psoas are weaker, I worked with the FAI fix pre surgery (right side large CAM & 3o'clock labral tear, grade 3 femoral head arthritis, the surgery was just over a year ago now, totally worth it after 25 years of 'managing' & not knowing why I was in constant pain with my hips) but didn't realise I also had dysplasia. 8 weeks ago I had a steroid into my right psoas tendon as its very 'angry' & have been specific exercises to try & get the right side stronger, its currently 20% weaker, i'm constantly frustrated by the 'cha cha cha' of getting stronger whilst trying to avoid pain... I feel so strongly I do not need bi lateral hip replacements as this is muscular/fascia/connective tissue.. oh & i'm hyper-mobile just for an extra challenge & anterior pelvic tilt.. lol.. challenge!!!

    An x-ray showed pelvis tilt. I've had lower back problems and was first diagnosed with degenerate disk, a few years later the x-ray showed pelvis tilt. I believe my pelvis tilt happened during my 24 years of being a certified nurse assistant, lots of heavy lifting involved in that line of work. I agree with the dominant side causing asymmetrical difference This video helped me to realize my thoughts of how I've used my body for lifting over the years has contributed to the tilt. Thanks for helpful information.

    My chiropractor has shown me an x-ray when standing evenly on both feet showing my left pelvis is rotated anteriorly & downward compared right pelvis. I had gone to him with severe pain & weakness in my right leg all the way down to my foot. I could even stand from being seated without a sharp pain to the left of my right TFL which would double me over. I have made progress following his recommendations of strengthening & strengthening & adjustments over 3 years and my pain is less.

  • @iminmissouri8589
    @iminmissouri8589 Жыл бұрын

    I strongly suggest you look into postural restoration therapy and the right bc pattern. It looks at this asymmetrical body pattern that most humans have (I found it through my lateral pelvic tilt) but it looks at this system that most humans have not just in a strength / stretch muscle standpoint, but your body your breath your bite and tongue everything. Once you’re in this uneven position which is in the whole body not just the pelvis, you’re not stable and can become stuck in this position, regardless of the muscle strengthening or stretching you do. To bring back stability you need to fix your bite and tongue position, usually with an ALF and some sort of retainer and once you have that fixed other areas become more malleable, then you work on how you’re breathing and then incorporate exercises a long with your new breath. Usually your left obliques, adductor, and right glute internal rotation are what need work, and then after that you have a more stable foundation to work on the upper body. However everybody is different and influenced slightly different, I have some other shit like pectus and right tmcc influencing it all. It’s mind blowing stuff and it’s slowly becoming more mainstream.

    I tried PRI for alignment/pain issues including a pelvic tilt and saw a practitioner for over a year and then some. Not a fan overall and expensive. I agree with forgotten breeze that it's extremely complicated. Some of the exercises, if I could've actually done them, I would have never needed a P.T. to begin with. I think some people view it as thinking outside the box but it's just another box that doesn't apply to everyone. What has helped me most are basic unilateral stretch/strength exercises and variations/progressions of them. Upright Health has been much more productive for me than PRI.

My back was pretty messed up, herniated disc and then had an X-Ray which shows Facet joint syndrome , pain meds were good once we got the right ones. The changing factor for me was chiropractic treatment. He told me my pelvis was twisted in the accident. He adjusted it and two days later mostly all my pain and discomfort is gone.

It’s from years of sitting on the edge of my bed with my right leg extending off the edge towards the floor and my left with my knee bent and hip flexed towards my shoulder. Now I’m doing stretches to lengthen my left hip flexors, and exercises to shorten my leg extensors. And the opposite on my right leg.

    I was a competitive, left-handed disc golfer (at least in my head -- my scores never showed it, but I have the occasional ace to prove it) in my late teens and early twenties. When I started barbell strength training in my mid-twenties, I noticed that my right glute (the driver of my disc golf throw) was much stronger than my left, among other distortions in my hips and, uh, anatomy. I still notice the difference, even when I go for a long walk. But really, I don't worry about it. These days, I do more bodyweight split squatting than weighted squatting, I do single-leg KB deadlifts with light weight, and I practice rolling and twisting a la Tim Anderson's Original Strength, and I feel better in subtle but powerful ways. I felt my worst when I thought I needed to target all of my imbalances. But when I implemented some simpler movements that didn't burn me up (I can't say I'm actually interested in building muscle or becoming 'strong'), I noticed I could just occupy my daily life in a more comfortable way, and that's enough for me.

    I DONT SEE THE LINK TO TEST IF I HAVE ONE LONGER LEG??? I love this channel I have found and I am so grateful! Not only is he funny and entertaining but encouraging and it makes a lot of sense and I’m just excited about being more positive about my circumstance. QUESTION PLEASE 🙋🏻‍♀️ when I was 10 years old I slid into home plate improperly and screaming in pain found out that I jammed my hip and twisted my pelvic and throughout my life once in a while I would get a pinched nerve or a pain and go to a chiropractor and it would be fine and I was active. Fast forward 20 years or so and I developed serious health challenges became slowly weaker, sedentary and finally bedridden for two months and now I’m trying to make myself stronger just even walking again but have noticed feels like one leg is longer than the other the hip is rotated forward Went and had another x-ray done by a chiropractor that I had had previous and apparently in the x-ray it looks jammed up and always has since that original injury So is it possible that due to my sedentary lifestyle over the last few years that my muscles need the proper exercises and not that my leg is longer than the other due to my history? In other words if I didn’t seem to have one leg longer than the other earlier in my life then do I just focus on the exercises that you have on the regular hip stuff? Or would I focus on how you said exercise if you do have one leg longer than the other? Thank you thank you thank you !!!🙏🏼

    For 22 years I was healthy and symmetrical. Then while getting into a sudden sprint for the bus I felt “something” move in my pelvic area. For the rest of the afternoon, I felt off but didn’t know what. The next day, I woke up with several muscles cramped up and had a torsion in my pelvis (right back side higher), leading to a brand new functional leg length difference - my right side is several mm functionally longer than my left due to this “injury”. It has been stuck in this position for the next 22 years of my life and I’m trying to fix it. Ever seen anything like this?

  • @martinebelhardt7498

    Just one comment or question Matt. How common are actual bone length differences between he left and right leg in humans? And how commonly are they significant enough to create dysfunction and compensation that would typically result in chronic pain or mobility issues. I have always operated under the belief that actual bone length discrepancy that rises to that level are extremely rare. It has been my impression that Most often the difference is due to tightness in muscles that are causing one side of the pelvis to elevate thereby drawing one leg up shorter. I think having an idea of the most likely cause would be helpful for viewers.

  • @jackconnor6172
    @jackconnor6172 Жыл бұрын

    One thing I'm pretty sure messed up my muscles is the sitting position. I used to sit in a position that made all the muscles that are tight now extremely short compared to the side that feels normal. Took me a while to realize this and i found out that having a chair that rotates rather than a chair on a fixed frame has been sabotaging my attempts to counter this issue as I already have an unconscious tendency to tilt more to one side. I have even noticed that when I don't touch the ground with my feet and let them hang the chair will slowly begin to rotate to the shortened side. Could be a body weight shift due to the tilt itself or perhaps the floor could be on a slight incline. Another thing that's worth considering is sleeping position, but that one is super tough to change.

    Yes mate i have encoutered exactly the same thing , i have scratchy pain on the right hip bone when walking it is really doing my head in . Think the combo of sitting and sleeping position has been the cause . I always sleep on my right side. Noticed tightness in lower back and other areas over the past few months then this hip thing came on badly . Im not overweight at all and normally can walk miles no problem out on a good trek. I do have a swivel chair but the chair is pretty hard and i have a lot of pressure from the end of the chair digging into back of the thighs so may also be something to consider .

    I think I always had a weakness in my left glutes. When I started kickboxing, I noticed that I was unable to kick forcefully the same way with the left leg/hip as with the right. I think I overcompensated by using different muscles, and perhaps put strain on the lower back. Still not quite sure, but my right hip seems to be ok, and my left hip rotates outwards, when I lie on my back the left leg and foot fall outwards. Thank you for going into this, will now refer to the two recommended videos. Would love to solve my problem.

    At first I thought my episodes of SI joint pain were caused by the high impact of running. I recently found out about "Malalignment Syndrome" which explained the pain as well as all the symptoms I've had since childhood. I was then led to find out about my pelvis being twisted to the left. I'm in hope that correcting it will improve the rotated knees as well. Do you recommend running (at light intensity, 2-3 miles) while doing the correction stretches and exercises? Or that should definitely wait until the pelvis is stable and in a neutral position? I enjoy running and miss it but am worried it would cause damage or turn the pelvis wrong again.

    It is a very good video. The problem is that we thought wrongly that all the parts of the body on the left and right were equal. They are not, starting from dominant side also the fingers, teeth, jaw, nostrils, ears, and so forth. The problem is exacerbated by bad habits including sleeping positions, injuries that make us use the opposite side for extended periods. The general lack of activity or exercise during the prolonged COVID-19 isolation is another factor that all contribute to the issue.

    I have about a 1.5" leg length discrepancy. My discrepancy was diagnosed on x-ray, and it is my tibia bone. I am also an Ironman triathlete. I constantly have low back problems. Sitting triggers bad episodes, so I have a treadmill desk. But, sometimes I have to sit to drive my car, fly, etc. (Also, I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease in my late 20s.) I correct my shoes for about 0.5" by getting my shoe modified. (Lifts that big don't fit well in a shoe.). Longer than that feels awkward, and results in twisting my ankle more on trail runs. Today, my PT told me (after a particularly bad week where I woke myself up screaming several times from back pain, scaring other household members) that my pelvis is twisted. Is there a difference between twisted and rotated? After 30+ years of back pain, I am beginning to wonder if I will ever be free of back pain. I think my psoas may have been spasming because I was having deep pain in my lower left abdominal area, in addition to nerve pain and soreness along my lumbar spine. I may need to strengthen to get my spine better stabilized. Not sure where to start. (I do like my PT, but I am pretty desperate to do anything that might help at this point and gather as much info as possible.)

    I notice that when I stand up my entire pelvis will by itself rotate counter clockwise and stop so it is about 5 to 10 degrees crooked instead of straight on with my feet. I can't figure out how to fix it. My left glute medius is always tight no matter what.

    I'm not sure if I have a rotated pelvis, but I was pain free when I went in for a "routine check up" at my chiropractor. The chiropractor said he had adjusted mt SI joint and lower back, but after the adjustment my right knee began clicking and I was in so much pain that I only slept for about 2 hrs that night. I have been in excruciating pain since then - the pain is on the outside of my right knee, in my right groin and the right hip. I'vd been back to the same chiropractor as well as others, however, no one has been able to help me. It's been about 5 yrs now. Sometimes it's impossible for me to carry out normal household duties... it's so painful.

    I think your chiropractor misalign your si joint. It happen to me the same, It can also Cause rotation in your femur. My hip snap My knee crack and my ankle hurt so bad. I went to bone dr he did ct scan to my lower body and found out my femur are being twist anterior. And ask me to do surgery.and u can't found out with all the X-ray ct mri Cause Dr don't trust me, Cause si joint only has little movement. I been through this like since 2023/1 And i found out its chiropractor fault

    I refuse the surgery, it better to check with your dr, to see if you have femur rotation, i know bunch of people has the same problem after they see chiropractor.its call si joint dysfunction.

    So I'm not sure if I had a twisted pelvis or a dislocated hip. 5 years ago I fell on my butt down a flight of stairs. After that I quickly developed a screwd up right hip. It hurt to walk and therapy didn't help. They also didn't think the protruding lump of bone on the right outer side was a thing but I know my body and the new bulge on my hip was definitely new and different from the left. They assumed I was wrong probably because I'm overweight and they couldn't tell. Anyway the other day I slipped while stepping out of a Chevy van amd landed on the step of the van on my right side back pelvis...the bone at the lower back of the hip that also has had tons of strain and inflammation from my protruding outer right hip issue. Well I must have hit that bone just right because as the full weight of my body hit it and I slid off the step all the way up my back before I hit the floor, I felt a warm relief(and pain) from that back hip bone into my hip and down the side of my leg in the midst of the pain and shock of landing on my back. Odd sensation of relief and pain all at once. I slowly got up to check and make sure I didn't break my back and I definitely hurt for the next two days but when I went to bed I noticed my outer hip wasn't hurting for once ans I went to rub the protruding hip area that has been bothering me all these years and it was gone! Totally normal again and just like my left side! So far I've had zero pain and stiffness in the hip and I can walk and climb steps normally and pain free again. I don't know if I had a titled pelvis or stuck si joint or a partial dislocation but hitting that bony part on the lower right back hip with my full body weight corrected the side hip bulge and I'm pretty amazed. Do you think you may know what my original problem was based off of my description of my fall and how the fall instantly corrected my hip issue?

    I went to a podotherapist and said my left leg was longer than my right. My pelvis is twisted and I have scoliosis because of it. I'm 17 and my biggest dream was getting into natural body competitions. I have the genetics, but my symmetry destroyed everything for me. Is it over for me now? Are my asymmetries going to stick with me causing to be unaesthetic no matter what I do? Don't tell me to love myself for who I am or to be beautiful in your own way etc. Just tell me the truth. Is it over for me?

    Bro, it depends if you were born with it or not. If you were, then yeah it's over unless you get surgery. If not though, then you can fix it through exercises done regularly to get your body working again.

  • @brandonpins823

    We have bodies that are asymmetrical - huge liver on one side, heart on the left side, diaphragm that’s different side to side. Please lookup Postural Restoration Institute if you’re curious more about body asymmetries. It can be leg length, but those cases are actually very rare. Good vid Matt, just more food for thought out there :)

    Discrepancy of my left and right are caused by the problem of my right knee. The lower part of my right knee is not in the right angle. It looks like that my right knee is shorter and the hip is not in a rotation. I would like to know if this can be corrected without knee surgery. The unbalance of my hip caused me to have spine operation last year (lower back part).
