While I still haven’t been able to fix my mower just yet, I just wanted to say that I love how you get right to diagnosing in your videos and you don’t need to first tell us the complete history of lawn mowers and how grass first came into existence to begin every video. The amount of videos on KZread like “Fix your (whatever) in 5 minutes!” that are 20 minutes long is insane haha.
One of the best, most complete educational videos for common engine issues on KZread! Thank you for this excellent video

I’ve been doing repair work from my home for about ten years now and I rarely find it necessary to replace a carb. I can usually clean the carb and maybe replace the seals and/or replace the needle and seat. It is much less expensive to the customer to pay for the twenty minutes it takes to repair than the cost of a new carb - especially since I charge much less for labor than an actual shop. Parts and labor to clean the carb is usually less than fifty bucks as opposed to 100+ for a new OEM carb. An aftermarket carb is a crap shoot as to getting a good one.

I agree I rebuild about 95% in my shop and hardly ever buy a carb
I recently discovered your channel. You are a REAL small engine mechanic. You know how to properly diagnose and troubleshoot. I see so many people that just keep hanging unneeded parts on until the unit runs.
Excellent video, I thought I had a bad solenoid but I couldn’t even jump it, turned out I had a loose bolt on the ground wire from the battery to the frame, loose at the frame. Tightened the bolt and it turns over great. Then I ran into running issues and blowback thru the carburetor and a no start, head gasket was blown, replaced that and now it only clicks again but spins over great with the plug removed so I’m guessing decompression spring is missing, will check for the bump and valve clearances tomorrow.
Thank you so much! You gave so much helpful information for a determined woman to figure out her mower!
Absolutely great information regarding diagnosing non starting engines. Shows you know the philosophy behind small engines. Thanks for the videos.

...one of the best DIY mower videos I have ever seen....thanks for posting... :)
Been fumbling around trying to learn why my mower won’t run - this video is spot on - my mower was commandeered by wife to drag her horse ring and just flat abused and then abandoned- I’m in process of trying to bring her back to life and turned my carport area into cooters garage for sure - makes her mad as hell🤣- anyway awesome videos and have subscribed big time - great mechanic you are and educator … Thks again Go heels Taft

My 22 year old MTD 14.5 HP lawn tractor sat bone dry all last year because of the drought. Put ethanol free gas in the other day and.............no start. It ran great when I put her up, completely serviced. I had a feeling this would be the year she didn't start. At least it has spark, time to yank the carb I guess. Never had to yet after all these years. Fortunately my push mower fired up on the first pull.
I like da way you tallk" ! 🤗
I keep finding bad ground thru frame on older mower Any time it’s hard or slow turning I check it with jumper cables It’s not AllWAYS the cam compression release broke
Hey, I found out why my cub cadet of 4 years wouldn't start! Even though I changed the oil regularly. It's SEIZED! Hooray! ! !
Great information. I have a Briggs 22 hp. I disconnected the fuel line from the pump to the carburetor inlet turned it over fuel came out of the line. But when I turned the engine off the fuel continued to flow out of the file line (siphoned out ). Would this be a sign the pump is bad ?
@RaleysSmallEngines

Don't ask me how I know but whatever you do don't use a shopvac to suck the fuel out of the tank. Static electricity will ignite the fumes and you'll be left with a shopvac that looks like it got napalmed.

Hello I got a problem with a 50 Troy-Bilt a zero turn it runs good but every time you pull the arms in the engine turns off

It's a safety switch issue or a wire backed out of PTO connector. Test the safety switches with an ohm meter. Please test switches, I have a video on how to do that somewhere on my channel. Start with a careful visual inspection of wiring connectors. Then I'm off to testing switches with an ohm meter.
Don`t know if you can help me out, I have a John Deere L118 with a briggs Intec 22hp and every week when I go to use it I have to crank it for an extended period. I cleaned and rebuilt the carb, replaced the fuel filter, checked the tank and fuel hoses for debris or blockage, checked the gas cap vent, adjusted the valves, replaced the battery, and replaced the spark plugs. The choke cable is adjusted properly and the butterflys close the whole way when applied - it has been doing this since I have had it (I bought it used). Also, the compression seems fine on it. After I start it the initial time, it fires right up every time afterwards (unless it sits for a week or so). I appreciate any help!
