No Start John Deere LT155 Riding Mower with a Kohler Command Engine. Battery solenoid carburetor
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Must see this sitting up, neglected and heading for the junkyard John Deere LT 155 Riding Mower with tons of issues. Our customer brought this machine to us to see if T-Bone can save it. We found many issues with this riding mower, electrical and fuel related problems. This machine had an old dead battery, a non-working solenoid that just made a single click (when turning the key), bad fuel / gas in the tank and a carburetor in terrible shape. We work through these issues step by step to show you how to repair these problems with easy-to-follow directions on your machine. These repairs will apply to most all riding mowers with similar issues and hopefully help you repair your machine. Yes, pretty much same repair on Briggs and Stratton, Kawasaki and many more engines and riding mowers.

Nicely done. The Georgia Association of Shade Tree Mechanics has pulled my license; I'm glad you folks are aound.
One of the best videos I have seen on troubleshooting lawn mower problems! His detailed information makes it very helpful in fixing any machine out there. Thanks so much for your videos!

T-Bone saves another one from the scrap man. Good job describing the diagnostic procedures! Great camera work! Stay away from that bigger hammer. LOL.😂😁👍🇺🇸 Roger

Good video on this Kohler Command systems. I just bought 2 x Snapper ZTR 44in deck mowers that has the Kohler Command engines on them. You gave a good run down template for me to follow for my non-running ZTR.
Great video. Super helpful, detailed and some humor sprinkled in. Haven’t been mechanical savvy but after watching this have dove in and enjoyed attempting to repairing my lt155 -

My grandfather and uncle where lawnmower machines and I have the exact tank in my building that's funny to me seeing u using it for that cause I got my old f100 that had dirty gas in tank moving same tank same way lol
IMHO that was the best engine Kohler ever made. Definitely worth restoring.

This video has been SUPER helpful! I'm restoring my fathers LT133. Didn't know that the carb solenoid wasn't technically even needed, good to know! When I'm troubleshooting carb or gas line issues, and end up spilling some, I pour small bit of water over the area just be a little extra safe.
Got this engine on my JD l110 Awesome! T Bone!!
Hey T-bone nice to see you very good video and well explained you always do a nice job explaining your work this video im sure will help people with this same lawn tractor to fix there's if they have the same issue. Take care and stay well

Thanks brother
Picked one of these up a few weeks ago off craigslist, kinda similar problem set, new battery, new fuel lines, new fuel pump, and a cleaned carb are all it's really needed. One of the weirder issues I did have was the float valve needle was stuck on mine, which is what was causing it to flood. The "gasoline" in the tank did get it to run initially, but it was more like lamp oil than gasoline and once the machine was stopped would turn into dried up soda. I did pump it all out through the fuel lines with a siphon pump, put some fresh gas in, got it fired up and went for a trip around the yard. Unfortunately, my factory air cleaner had been replaced by some goofy kinda thing, have to see if I can find that part. Thanks for the debugging help.
Great diagnostic and getting this kohler on this John deere up and running again good job again t-bone

Cool 😎 video
Just went through all this on one of my 155's I picked up. I wanted to recommend that you put another 150-75 micron fuel filter in the rubber hose going into the carb. This motor has the metal fuel line running under the heat shield that tends to rust up & get debris into the carb. Thanks for the vids!

@justinvegan
Жыл бұрын
@@Mike-su8si That's interesting... Perhaps mine is Aluminium as well BUT it still had "rusty build up" inside of that tube. I sand blasted it in/out & painted it. Either way, from my angle, a filter is still needed at that location. It's a tight spot but a pancake style filter will fit.
@Mike-su8si

@@justinvegan yeah more filters are better i only have one on mine but still have to put a new gas line on from the tank to the filter The guy i got the mower from said the engine was rebuilt and it was but they never put new line on i redone all the small pieces so just have the long piece to do. You could probably use a piece of aluminum brake line or order one thats made for the engine

I wonder if the original solenoid was grounded to the unbolted engine or the frame? You can flatten the end of an old soldering iron and 'mesh/weld' the plastic piece between the block and carb. Good video start to finish, thanks.

@RaleysSmallEngines great video! I have a LT155 that has no sound when I turn the key. I've put in a new key switch, battery, solenoid, starter, and carburetor. Did the jump trick and she wants to fire up. What do i check next?
Make you a cap or several and put an air valve in the top that way you can pressure the tank easier.
Yes that helped me out. I am having the exact same problem. An I was wondering how to get the gas out of the tank.

solenoids are not complicated at all after watching. I should have known this stuff along time ago.
Engineers should be required to work on each prototype design, in the hot, in the rain, and the cold, before they sign off on a design. To engineer is human.

Lol, I had a bunch of moments like that with this mower. It's still here, waiting on a muffler.
I have a john deere l110. It has a kohler command 17.5hp. Problem i have it starts up runs fine but sometimes when i go to turn off it tries to keep running. I replaced ignition switch, cleaned carb, new plug, checked the piece in fuel bowl is working, added high octane fuel

I have this exact same engine on my Snapper zero turn; if I run the engine without the heat shields around the cylinder head, will that harm anything? After taking mine off and cleaning all the built up gunk that was trapped in cylinder fins while servicing the mower, I am hesitant to put them back on.

Just got an lt150. Was running now turning key doesn't do anything. Doesn't seem to be getting power at starter solenoid. Jumping solenoid makes it turn over but don't seem to be firing. What all does the ignition switch run?

Yes they are, especially when I put them on backwards 😃
I quit using mine because each new replaced bowl of the carburetor bowl corrodes inside and causes problems with the plastic float there's no other problems with those Kohler engines all the main problem is is the carburetor bowl I ain't gonna keep wasting my money on new carburetors just for the bowl that corrodes in a few months so i use to like those engines but not no more its not the gas causing the problem or my briggs wouldn't keep working its Kohlers replacement carburetor bowls metal isn't treated right from whoever is making those parts Thats why I'd like to buy 2 more craftsmen 18 hp intek briggs engine or john deere briggs they're the same exact single cylinder Then take off the Kohlers and put Briggs on
Good Job, People Think Their Time Is SO Valuable That They Can Out Price Themselves Of Work. Even Qualified Mower Mechanics Think Their Time Is So Valuable It's Ridiculous . They Think They DESERVE To Charge Stupid Prices Per Hour.. I Would Rather Have Worked On A Mower For $ 50 P/H & Get Work, Then Charge $ 100 P/H And Get No Work. It Comes Down To Part Costs Etc. A Honest Mechanic Can Still Make Money. Simply Swapping a Carburettor Is Being Lazy.. Not Many Carbs Need Replacing, Just A Good Clean.. And That's My 2 Cents Worth For Many Mechanics
@bertgrau3934
Жыл бұрын
Like the gentleman said, do you charge the customer for the time to clean or just put on a new carburetor? Even at $50 an hour for labor, a new carburetor can cost less than $30 . So spend an hour cleaning, or a new carburetor? I charge $65 shop hour. I prefer to rebuild, but sometimes that will cost more than a new carburetor. To keep cost down for the customer sometimes the new is cheaper than to rebuild. If it's for myself, I will take the time to rebuild.
@jonlambshead5115
Жыл бұрын
@@bertgrau3934 yes the aftermarket carburettors are cheap to replace. I wouldn't charge an hour labour just to clean the carburettor, If I could Save the original carburettor I would. I'd at least give it a go, & if it was still no good I would change it. I also Don't send machines back to the Customer Dirty. I don't care if it takes me half an hour to degrease the engine etc. I will charge what ever it cost me in a can of degreaser to replace the can. Cleaning by pressure washer is quick & Easy. Cleaning The machines show that you care in what you do for the customer and they appreciate & give you more work.

@@jonlambshead5115 I agree I will not give equipment back to a customer dirty. If I can clean a carburetor in less than an hour great, but I usually take an hour . If you don't charge for your time, that's up to you. I do good work, and will not give free work.
