Why Yoda Broke the Rules to Train Dooku [CANON] - Star Wars Explained

Ойын-сауық

Jedi Master Yoda was the Grand Master of the Jedi Order, and a leading member of the Council (along Mace Windu). He wasn't traditionally allowed to train padawans as his focus needed to be on governing the order and dealing with the Council matters, which required far too much dedication and time. So why did he break these so called rules, to train Dooku as a youngling?

Plus in many ways I will say, it was the Jedi obsession with the rules staying the same, their zeolotism of those rules and in many ways their inability to understand the state of mind of even each other that caused the crashing down in the end

I always wanted the name “Darth Tyranus” to be used more in the prequels, because Dooku has never sounded right to me. Christopher Lee has always been a favorite actor of mine and I think he was great in the role. I felt that he played his two sides to perfection. One was the wickedly evil Sith Lord and the other was the kind, gentle statesman side that he showed to Obi-Wan. I especially liked his sad comments about Qui-Gon: “I wish he was still alive. I could use his help right now.” He almost sounded convincing, like there was still good in him and he missed his old padawan. Kudos to Lee for playing a very dynamic character. He was killed off too soon.

Dooku is my favourite character. I sort of think Yoda's decision to train him lessened his eventual power. The old man trolled him for like a month... the other knight Dooku was interested in, tells one story, and already + exp + lvl up. In hindsight, many of the qualities Yoda has, never passed on to Dooku - seems like a real waste.

I think it was naive of Yoda to think he could train someone to resist the dark side when the old he became the less active against the dark side he became. I think you forget that one leads to another. Dooku had already turned to the dark side by the time Anakin showed up. And even without force powers, many people are reluctant to repeat their on failures of the past. It's highly likely that the fact that Dooku DID turn to the dark side in spite of Yoda's personal efforts that led them to be so reluctant to train Anakin.

@@KuraIthys Wiki says Dooku had been in conflict with the Jedi Council for years before Episode 1, but he left the Jedi Order after Qui-Gon Jinn's death. And he became a Sith years later. But Star Wars Theory suggested Yoda was judging Anakin for Dooku's example. It would make perfect sense, and would be another point for my opinion stating Dooku is the second most important character in the movies series, second to Palpatine. But at the time Anakin showed up, Yoda had just Dooku alienating from the Council example.

@@reggiejackson5694 Yes, but Qui Gon only tasked Obi-Wan to train Anakin because the council had refused to do so beforehand. I believe Qui Gon would have wished Anakin to be trained by someone more experienced. The Jedi had been waiting for Anakin for millenia, and when they finally found him, they refused him because of his potential in the Dark Side, while they had made several exceptions with risky students such as Dooku in the past? They had a child with a connection to the Force stronger than they had ever seen before and rebuked him, which just goes to further show how out of touch with the Force they had become. Qui Gon was the only one who was following the will of the Force before anything else, even his supposed superiors on the council. For all their talk about renouncing fear, the Jedi were dominated by their fear of the Dark Side, which caused the imbalance in the Force and led to their demise. The Force had it's way either way in the end, mainly thanks to Qui Gon, but it wouldn't have needed to be so brutal had they been more open to new ideas and less dogmatic.

6:20 Yoda in his arrogance didn't believe the sith could return and didn't believe a Jedi could get lost to the dark side, to the sith.... He was arrogant enough to think his personal mastery of the light side of the force would be the best for Dooku, AND not what he thrived for... No wonder, and hopefully, he would later face his dark side demon in the core Force world from the clone wars

I've always viewed the Jedi Order of the prequels to be Yoda's order. He has molded it's processes to reflect his own views of Light and Dark, and he is very afraid of the Dark Side. Pupils are taken at a very young age and meticulously molded to serve the Light and reject the Dark. Any who find interest in the Dark Side, even on a scholarly level are ostracized. This left many woefully unprepared to face the urges of the Dark Side when their discipline was questioned. Some were pure champions of the Light that never felt to pull of the Dark Side, like Obi Wan. Some were interested in studying it, but saw it's failures and didn't get tempted, like Kostana. Some in their search for power and feeling chained by the teaching of the Jedi Order sought more knowledge in the Dark Side and were ultimately consumed by it, like Dooku and Anakin. My headcanon for the fall of the Jedi Order is ultimately Yoda's failure to understand the balance between Light and Dark. To have both paths be known to the Jedi, their strengths and weaknesses be understood in order to recognize their pitfalls. In my view: The failure of the Light Side is to become entirely defensive in your interaction with the world. Only acting in response to the will of the force and losing ones individuality entirely. The failure of the Dark Side is to become a slave to the power one sought from the dark side to begin with. You no longer strive to better yourself, but only to grow your power in the force by any means.

What I heard is Yoda found young Dooku in the agri Corps, decor for padawans not chosen by a master, so you're learning to use the force agricultural means. Jedi Gardner's basically. Yoda asked him to use the force and move this one potted tree from one side of pack to the other, unknowingly toy tried the tree was extremely heavy even with using the force, with a little coaching from Yoda. Yoda is getting with joy was seeing the young Padawan do it congratulated him and walked away, and chose him as his Padawan his next day. First of Yodas last 3 apprentices, Dooku, Ki-Adi-Mundi, and Luke Skywalker.

I think the prequels could've been a lot better if it played more on Yoda's failures as grandmaster and as Dooku's master that led to the downfall of the Republic and ultimately the Jedi. In the original trilogy, Yoda obviously seems defeated and despondent, but the prequels ultimately make it seem like it's just because he lost his duel with Palpatine.
