Why the Jedi FEARED Sifo Dyas [CANON] - Star Wars Explained

Count Dooku was a man of skill and respect, however, growing up he was still finding his way. Sifo-Dyas, his best friend, was a young Jedi padawan with a powerful set of skills. Much like Anakin Skywalker, he could see into the future, and the Jedi didn't like that...

I have an interesting idea about why Sifo Dyas was promoted to the council: to be WATCHED, monitored and, i would hope, possibly cared for by the other council members. Dyas was crippled by visions sure, but he was still a Jedi, and a noble, reputable one at that. The council knew 2 things: first, that Dyas was having these visions and second, they were no fault of his own. So he was actively DOING nothing wrong, the visions are just coming to him against his will. So it makes sense to surround him with some of the most powerful, wise and skilled masters on the council that were, in my mind, attuned to The Force enough that they could sense when one of these visions was about to come to Dyas and shield him, or otherwise reduce the impact so he could still function.

In the EU Darth Plagueis was mega rich and owned a company called Damask Holdings (Damask was his real surname) and funnelled money through to Sifo through intermediaries. When Palpatine killed Plagueis he gained control of his wealth, and kept funding the army. In Canon, we don’t yet know, though it’s logical to assume Dooku and Palpatine were involved in funding it.

  • @fixipszikon6670

Nice to see, that there are people who can think. So the answer is simple. He did not get funding, as he wasn't the one who ordered the army. It was Palpatine, using his name. It is logical that Palpatine oredered the army as he had the funds, the plan to use them, and benefited the most. And this was Lucas' plan. The nhe hinted that he will reveal Sifo-Dyas backstory, but he didn't, and fans made up theories based on perception instead of logic.

Sifo Dyas was indeed both one of the most gifted Jedi and one of the most tortured Jedi in the order's chronology. Gifted with foresight and then tortured in it's aftermath. My theory is that Sifo Dyas' visions grew so overwhelming and amplified the force through him that he may have eventually and unbeknownst to the jedi council been rendered a catatonic unable to communicate and in essence lost his very identity in the visions. And in this very short window of time, Sifo Dyas was vulnerable to the influence of Palpatine who had been keeping close tabs on the gifted and clairvoyant jedi. I believe Palpatine may have pulled off a trick no sith before him has ever achieved and in turn cheated the very force itself. He didn't possess the body of Sifo Dyas but rather used the force to create an almost ventriloquist/ dummy relationship with the emotionally broken Dyas. That was when he used Sifo Dyas to go to Kamino and place the order for the clone army. As we know, Sifo Dyas died shortly after the unfolding of these events by Palpatine's own orders. But what if this wasn't the ultimate endgame? What if Palpatine established just enough control over Dyas that he could even many decades later after Palpatine's own death was able to control Sifo Dyas' very force ghost. This would indeed be a feat no other sith would ever come close to accomplishing and would provide a way for Palpatine's return and a means for him to continue manipulating the force itself. Syfo Dyas is emotionally broken in death just as he was in life.

Didn't Yoda make a comment it was harder for them to see through the veil for foresight because of the dark side? Thus the Jedi's rule against foresight would be more about their inability to trust what they see and cover up the fact they were weakening from the public. If that's the case, then Sifo Dyas wouldn't have had to have gotten his foresight under control. He would have been the only member on the council who's foresight was actually still effective. Making him a council member to keep that foresight close-by makes a lot of sense.

I think Sifo had less visions as time went on, showing less need of him to hide it, but perhaps during Dooku’s final years in the Jedi Order, by time as Sifo himself as a celebrated Jedi Master the visions returned and informed him of the Clone Wars which made him act in creating the Clone Army Anakin never shown control over his foresight neither and seemed to only encountered them a few times as a Jedi And it adds to why Dooku had to kill his former friend, not only for his Rite of passage as a Sith Lord by killing someone close to him, but because Sifo may or had already at the time foreseen the truth of Order 66 making him a loose end if the Sith was to continue their plan in secret

Lucas dropping the Sifo Dyas character story could have been merged into General Grievous character or simply handled better, unless it was a seed (and not book bait) for the further outcome of the saga. Like the rule of two, Sifo Dyas and then Darth Plagues the wise. As many still believe Old Palpy was a shapeshifter or jumped body to body and was in fact all of these evil men. But no Sifo is a zealous hobo in a cave with visions. What has become the tales of Sifo Dyas are a disappointing outcome of poor story planning and inturn a bunch of retconning. In Attack of the Clones Obi Wan was like a detective hot on the trail to the likes of Sherlock Holmes or Philip Marlow and was gonna find out who was behind all of this! Yet never found out about him and reports ..."they mentioned this Jedi Master Sifo Dyas" then Yoda and Mace brushing it off as..oh yeah that guy. As if the character was no big thing forcing the story along. The building of the Empire and destroying the Jedi were from the manipulation of a puppet master pulling strings. The Clones being selected by someone else and landing in Palpatine's lap is luck not part of a cohesive or strategic plan. It's like Pearl harbor just happened and a General says to the President, oh by the way if you want to go to war now, it just so happens a General during WWI ordered a million tanks and a bunch of airplanes...and there almost ready for delivery!!! Obi Wan said Anakin was already a great pilot when he met him and a cunning warrior and that he fought along side him during the Clone Wars, this is where Lucas should of gone. As in the Clone Wars were already happening, and being fought over cloning rights for clones of many species were being used as slaves and now soldiers in a Dark Time of galactic upheaval...but no let's make Anakin 10 tears old and having been conceived by an ancient guy with nano-micro-chloriphilic gynecological powers. I dealt with it so far and could still deal with what has been done. Perhaps Ep9 will tie it up with an ingenious twist or even providing to the audience that perhaps there was a plan all along as if some facepalm moment that puts smiles on everyone's faces and everything is securely tightened up for the end.
