Why They Went On The DOOMED Titanic Sub - Psychology
What’s the psychology of why those billionaires felt the urge to explore the depths of Titanic in what was clearly a doomed submersible controlled by only one button and a knockoff wireless PlayStation controller with Bluetooth connectivity issues.
In psychology, this is called having so much money not knowing what to do with it syndrome. Ok, it’s not actually called that, but this is popularly called affluenza or wealth fatigue. This term refers to those who have a sense of emptiness, dissatisfaction, or lack of greater purpose, which is experienced by some who have achieved significant wealth and material possessions. It stems from the idea that the pursuit of material wealth as a primary goal in life can lead to disillusionment and a loss of meaning and fulfillment. This causes them to sometimes seek to fulfill their lofty childhood dreams of pursuing those expensive adventures now as adults. This may be becoming an astronaut for 10 minutes with Jeff Bezos, hiring local sherpas to basically carry them up to the summit of Mt. Everest, racing Ferraris on a Formula 1 racetrack, or now exploring the depths of Titanic, even though their submersible only had one tiny poorly designed window; therefore, they can’t even really see Titanic in-person but mostly just on a computer screen in the sub! Those who do these risky adventures may tell you it’s for the thrill of the adventure to test their physical and mental limits and to push the limits of humanity, but it seems to also involve what’s called social comparison to possibly brag to their fellow wealthy friends about what they did and can still do in spite of being old and rich. Wealth fatigue may set in when they suddenly realize that everyone they know and respect can buy everything that they can also buy, so they may think of ways to set themselves apart to subconsciously prove their superiority and stroke their typically large egos, which may result in them rushing into doing these types of risky and expensive adventures.
I really hope they’re all found safe, but many believe their doomed submersible sadly imploded on the way down causing it to be crushed like a soda can where it’s possible their little window gave out or there was a faulty bolt on their removable door. There are hopeful reports of knocking being heard, but some are skeptical that’s them especially with all the boats and machinery in that area now that could be creating that type of manmade sound. And also, if knockoff wireless PlayStation controllers were so amazing and reliable, why doesn’t Boeing, Airbus, SpaceX, and NASA use them to control their passenger aircraft?! I think he needed more than one button after all.
Now in the comments, what do you think sadly happened to them? Let everyone know in the comments below.

The guy who was interviewed about this on the news clearly stated there were mechanical issues with the submarine, even before it was put in water. Apparently it could have exploded already due to a leak? So I’m assuming the chances of it having exploded are high, and if it’s still intact then they will run out of air by Saturday approximately. If they aren’t found and rescued by Saturday then, that’s when it’s safe to conclude that the passengers are officially gone…

I believe the sub just SHUT DOWN... aka LOST POWER / FUNCTIONALITY... I believe the "KNOCKING" sounds (in 30 minute intervals) detected by the buoys is most likely evidence of this... It is now clear that the submersible Titan imploded. I couldn't understand why these people chose to do this. The ability of the tourist sub’s hull design to withstand such depths was questioned in a 2018 lawsuit filed by OceanGate’s former director of marine operations, David Lochridge, who said he was fired after he raised safety concerns about the vessel. The same happened when Alexander Carlysle, a designer at Harland and Wolf, raised concerns about the inadequate number of lifeboats on Titanic. His concerns were ignored and he resigned. I read that their means of communication was a play station. I don't think that naming this submersible Titan was a very good idea - it is 2 letters short of the name Titanic. When that guy said the Titan was pretty much invulnerable the other guy said that is pretty much what they said about Titanic. How prophetic.

So if the controller failed the were screwed. Wonder which version of Bluetooth it had...older version can randomly fail. But after he said that plexiglass window would flex abd the company stated it wasnt rated for that depth...they definitely imploded. They've had successful tours before. They probably needed to replace that viewing window after ever dive but didnt know it would fail after a few dives. You know...from the flexing which was obviously weakening it over time.
@RandomBogey

Yup. They probably didn’t stress test it enough. They maybe conducted a few over-pressurized tests and assumed because it exceeded their tests once, it would be fine at less pressure every time, but didn’t account for fatigue. But, I just can’t fathom that the WIRELESS controller was the ONLY means of control. Redundancy is built into virtually every system, particularly systems that manage human life. You’d think they’d at least maybe one of those monitors is touch and they’d have like a backup GUI option or something…
The controller is not a problem they have many to spare inside, plus when they are going down they are just free falling, they only need the controller when they are at the bottom. They lost communication half way down the trip, which means the thing most likely imploded. Crushing them in a fraction of a second.

It seems like it would be a miracle to find them alive at this point. I am hoping that they are found, and rescued, but it does not seem likely. If they died, I hope it was very quick. I cannot imagine how horrible a death it would be, to slowly starve of oxygen and warmth, over a period of a few days. Even the first 24hours, with no light, at all, nothing but the sounds of the others, who are with you, slowly losing hope, it would probably feel like a week. I have been locked in a cell for a few days, and I knew that I was eventually going to be let out. Even that experience made one day feel like three. And being locked in a cell, was a vacation, compared to what they must be going through, psychologically.

Wealthy or not.. this is still very sad and as a poor person, I feel very sorry for them and their families and friends. How awful. :(
Well, seeing as how the scientific papers I read today seem to indicate that carbon fiber delaminates at temperatures found near the depth of the Titanic wreck, I'd say the sub is very likely to have imploded as soon as the carbon fiber got cold enough to come apart. There's a reason why submarines are made out of metal. I feel bad for the families because they are going to feel sad since they loved these people, but I don't feel bad for the people themselves, not because they certainly died quickly, but because they spent what would take an average American 10 years to earn on a joyride to go see other people's graves. It serves them right to have joined those people.

Didn't know about the temperature doing that, what I have been suspecting is cyclical pressure fatigue. Carbon fibre is essential a polymer. There's a reason why deep sea vehicles are constructed of titanium or steel, and the cockpit is made spherical. Two key principles were violated just in this regard.
The fact that the beacon shut off an hour and a half into the dive indicates, to me, that they were probably crushed on the way down. I certainly hope that's what happened. It's better than the alternative.
I bet Netflix are already awaiting the documentary to be made I swear
The more I hear about this sub. The more I believe it imploded. That Glass or bolts or just the build itself was definitely a Mickey mouse build for SUCH depths. People have to learn from this and stop trying to do such outrageous unsafe things underneath the ocean.

I enjoyed that last few uncomfortable seconds of the video. Also all those people are probably dead from an implosion. If that is the case then at least they didn't suffer
Almost certain this thing was crushed, even if it has sprung just a small leak the jet of water would have cut them in to shreds before they all drowned, people don't need to go down to the wreck ever again, rov units can safely do what's required from above in total safety, not to mention that the whole things been mapped in super high resolution anyway which you can watch in the comfort and safety your living room.

Hi Derek, I’ve been a silent fan of yours for years now. I’ve watched this video for less than 20 seconds, and love! You’re awesome!
When building the dangerous sub be sure to test, and test again and again. Because when you are 4,000 feet deep a mishap will end your life and there's no second chance.
As I understood it one of its "safety-feautures" is a bunch of sandbags or such tied to its sides which will detereorate from the saltwater and cause the sub to resurface after some time, if it haven't resurfaced it means that the sub doesn't have any bouyancy ie. it most likely imploded. Or their safety feautures were stupid and doesn't work.

I think the owner of the sub was cavalier in saying we don 't need no stinking buttons or switches, ie depth gauges, buoys to jettison to the surface if there is a problem or other locator devices, What you have here is one overconfident rich guy rick rolling other rich guys to their doom.
