Barbie not caring about Ken was very accurate to me, because almost no girl, who played with her actually liked Ken, or had fun playing with him. it makes sense, that the movie Barbie wouldn’t be in love with him, because during play she usually wasn’t.

hey drew i love your opinion on the barbie movie and 100% respect it. i do wanna add in that mattel originally never wanted barbie to have a partner but consumers continued to complain that barbie was single so they were pretty much pushed to create ken. originally barbie was supposed to just be barbie, not barbie and ken. that’s why i really really love that they didn’t have barbie and ken as a thing in the movie. i don’t expect people to know this, i just have always been fascinated with barbie’s history :)))

I really hope you see this cause I just want you to know that when you started talking about timothee chalamet carving chocolate with his chin I literally paused the video, got up from my couch, and walked out the door to watch a Wonka showing by myself that was playing in 15 minutes cause I wanted to see if it was true. Then when I finished I kept playing your video where I left off in my car for you to say just kidding. Honestly no regrets. 8/10. I cried when she hugged her mom.

The point you made about pieces of media replacing social movements is so terrifying and incredibly accurate.

i love the way wikipedia articles are written so much. i read them when i wake up instead of twitter since i was banned. i just like that theres an index so i know whats coming up. i feel so simple minded when i admit that

Man. Drew's comment about how pop culture arguments have replaced social movements is an amazingly succinct version of something that's been knocking around in my head for a while. There is a very real thing where if you say you didn't enjoy this particular movie or some famous pop diva's album, people get mad and say you must be racist or sexist. You can't be criticizing these things as ART, because people don't really see them as art. The Barbie movie = feminism. And this is true of both the right and left; the conservatives scream about "woke" pop culture and the left worships "woke" pop culture, and both sides totally lose track of the fact that this thing they're arguing about is a glossy, focus group-tested corporate product. I fall prey to it sometimes myself, and it's such a stupid waste of time. The world is on fire, and we're all arguing about movies based on plastic toys.
