I literally have to defend Dwight Powell's playing time being way more than CWood against casual mavs fans. Wood was bringing more negatives than positives when he is on the court, the guy basically has one thing in mind and that is to score, it would have been great if he does it efficiently like prime Klay Thompson but no. Now these casuals are so silent right now that not one team is trying to get this guy.

Watching Wood last season he seems to just not play hard and doesnt have a great basketball IQ. But he is a very good scorer with excellent shooting ability at his size. He wants to score and thats about it, he gets frustrated easily when he doesnt get enough shots up and gets discouraged when he doesnt get enough minutes. On the many nights he only got like 20 minutes he would come in and immediatedly start shooting whenever he got the rock. And to his credit he was effective knocking down shots. But he stands around on defense, sets weak low effort screens and doesnt crash the boards with much aggression. I can see why team dont want to invest a big contract on Wood. That said, he is totally worth taking a chance on a 1 year deal or a below market value contract. Maybe he just needs a good coach and teammates that will hold him accountable. This offseason could be a wakeup call that shows Wood its about more than offensive stats.

Dillon Brooks is a great defender. He defended more shots than Jrue Holiday and held his opponents shots to just 44% compared to the 45% Jrue allowed it's actually incredible. Dillon's problem is not that he's a terrible shooter it's that he chucks up so many shots even though he's terrible. If he just shot less he'd be a great addition to any team.

Advanced stats can actually tell most of the story (not including work ethic, attitude, and chemistry with other teammates). To prevent being misled by empty stats, fans can try to understand these at least: Offensive Capabilities eFG% - Efficient field goal percentage (2pt & 3pt) TS% - True shooting percentage (2pt, 3pt & free throws) ORtg - Offensive Rating (The higher the better) OBPM - Offensive Box Plus Minus Defensive Capabilities DRtg - Defensive Rating (The lower the better) DBPM - Defensive Box Plus Minus TRB% - Total rebound percentage (better than total rebound since it is matching player's minutes) If his presence makes the team wins a.k.a impact BPM - Box Plus Minus VORP - Value Over Replacement Player PER - Player Efficiency Rating There are still many other advanced stats, but at the very least, knowing those above will let you separate diamond from bronze. PPG doesn't mean anything after all if the efficiency is trash. It doesn't bring a win. One example is the FG% (which is a trash stats and yet still being used to judge which player score more efficiently). Ex: Ben Simmons 5/10 FG, all 2pt = 10 points with 50% FG, 50% eFG, 50% TS Steph Curry 4/10 FG, all 3pt = 12 points with 40% FG, 60% eFG, 60% TS By using FG%, Ben Simmons seems to have better stats, which is clearly wrong since Curry produced 12 points compared to Ben 10 points. eFG% solved this issue by calculating 3 points and TS% included both 3pt and free throws.

@@saviorofs0ng true I was thinking more rebounding for boxing out. Although muscle will help against post bruisers like Embiid and Jokic. Since he’s shorter he also needs good vertical to play above the rim to compensate for his height

I haven't seen much actual play for Christian Wood, so stats are about all i know about him. Not just old fashioned counting stats, but advanced metrics look pretty good. What is it with him that teams see and don't like? I've seen players in the past who were lousy locker room presences, but looked great in highlight reels or box scores, so there was always one team that talked themselves into wanting them. Is there something about Wood that their own coaches and fans know that outsiders dont?

Houston lowkey bet on Dillon in a good way if you look at his contract. His salary goes --> 22.6m, 22.2m, 21.1m, 19.9m. Alone a foward salary is great trade value if they play even close to their potential, but on top of that, salary caps go up every year so forward salary is even more beneficial to building teams.
