The funny thing is, in Sancho & Amad United have two players who excel at ball retention. I would be interesting to see what team that is built around Amad, Sancho & Maino could do

My opinion. Tactics do not teach players how to keep the ball but rather execution of game plan. No tactics can work if the players lose the ball each time they are in possession. When they lose possession, you will hardly find all of them running back to defend as a unit. To them losing the ball is a habit and they think someone will win the ball back for them. Even pep Guardiola tactics can't work if his players constantly lose the ball again and again. These players Don t value the ball. No manager would make progress with players with such tendencies.

This approach reminds me of Motta's team....2-7-2 vertical tactics. If with the current squad the best we can do is switch Mainoo and Bruno....so the creative outlet will be in both sides....and both Shaw & Bruno can create using their stronger foot.... Just a thought, if we do push Shaw forward...that means we need both CB with explosive speed and can play far away from our goal. Not a tactico, but do understand what u mean on the balance part

I think is part of what Phil McNulty at the BBC has been saying for years about MU. He says it is an incoherent squad. Individually, excellent players but as a coherent set up, complementing each other's strengths and weaknesses? This is partly about having regular coaching turnover, because each coach looks to bring in some players they know and trust can do things they want. It is also partly about having not found a coherent recruitment policy once Fergie moved on (and he might have been a bit of a galactico signing merchant in his later years and he certainyl bequeathed an aging squad to his successor). I think ETH has done better with recruitment and development than he is given credit for. I think he is trying to bring in Academy players who are both good enough to play for MU but also can bring some of that balance. But he is basically part way in. If balance is an issue now, it sure as hell isn't likely to be better with another change of coach.

to me it seems as if the team doesn't do their homework, it's like they free hand each game and learn as they go. what happened to knowing your opponent and knowing yourself as a team. they should hire you as a strategy guide.

I'd argue Mainoo is far more creative, but we will need to hold the ball more to see that, unlike Bruno who has a knack of creating out of scraps, and simply upgrading DM and centre backs can be a massive change in stability

@@sunglee3935 I'd rather not see him isolated in a 10 pocket, instead I think you get better out of Mainoo in a two 8s and a 6 behind with wingers and fullback compact, he is better with players around him, or a 6-8-10 in England with Rice and Jude, he is not someone for an isolated 10, the game has become too quick for an isolated 10,

@@sunglee3935 as is said, I hoped for it in a compact setup, the biggest problem we have right now is the defensive line dropping too low, if if doesn't, the 6 will work, think about it, for a high enough line, the 10-8-6 flow of roles blend and overlap into each other really well.

Bruno plays more to the right and I think kobbie is usually to the left side

I believe that united need a striker who can link up the play and will not hesitate to drift into wide areas to create chances for his teammates. If we had a creative striker and who could arrive late in the box. Someone like Rooney, Kane, Levandowski, Firmino would be perfect to create more balance up front. (e.g. Jonathan David) Buying a solid left footed defensive midfielder who is creative but also defensively sound, in the mould of De Jong, Rodri. (E.g Koopmeiners, Laimer) would provide balance on the left. The bigger problem is that we don't have a reliable team either because of injuries or consistent performances. Much can be attributed to the NBA style of play and even if we used city's squad they would struggle. I think we need to invest in a world class centre back (not just someone young for the future) along side those 'balance' related signings just to cover us for now while we build the rest of the team, it will at least take 2 more seasons I feel.

Casa is dead in that role atm I'd really prefer antony on that right side he helps with the pressing, defensive work , and looks to keep the ball more often than garnacho and rashford 🦔🇿🇦

Oh come on ! MU dropping pts bse of that man in the middle . MU 11 practically playing agst 12 in majority of matches . In order to bring ESLeague into realization football authorities , MU must be brought down a notch or two !

The only formation that creates balance among players is 4:3:3 . The other formations give extremely difficult tasks to defenders.That possibly explain why in most games M.Utd defenders look weak . Stop playing lonely striker .

The reason Bruno doesn’t keep the ball most of the time is because we have forward players do plays best with space to run into. If you watch Bruno for Portugal you would see that he is a very complete midfielder and most of united fans don’t know how lucky we are to have a player of his quality and is still willing to run and play any position without complaining

Bruno loses the ball too much. He plays a big part in our lack of balance since he is impatient and always running around leaving his position constantly unoccupied. No tactical discipline whatsoever. Also he is one of if not the most dribbled-past player in the league. Non-existent physicality and don't get me started over rashford.
