Why Sweden's Warmth Is Fading Toward Migrants (HBO)

Last year, more than 160,000 migrants fleeing war in the Middle East ended up in Sweden, a country of only 9.5 million people. That’s the highest number of refugees per capita in Europe. But an increasing number of Swedes have grown impatient with their country’s generosity. Now, many of those migrants are being asked to leave. The government says that up to 80,000 will be deported, a large number of whom come from Afghanistan. In October, Sweden joined Germany in reaching an agreement with Afghanistan to repatriate tens of thousands of rejected asylum seekers. Michael Moynihan went to northern Sweden to meet with some of the migrants awaiting their fate.

Why don't they seek asylum in stable countries that are much closer to their homelands? A few come to mind right off the bat, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait, Iran, etc.

Correction...its because none of these countries will accept as refugees. However, there are Syrian refugees in Lebanon, Jordan , and Turkey. In fact most of the Syrians who have escaped the ME are now in either Lebanon or Turkey. Europe holds only a small % of the overall Syrian refugee population. Google the numbers yourself. There are still Syrians living in the Gulf but they're have to extend their work visas which can be revoked at any time. Lots of refugees don't mind working for their bread and butter despite what people think of them.

But it's completely different to a lot of middle eastern and african muslims who come here and except that they don't have to adapt or change at all, however it is the same time our politicians fault who have basically for a very long time implemented an integration policy that is very non demanding when it comes to learning swedish and understanding our culture and society. So the message have been "Come to sweden as you are, you don't have to learn swedish or adapt to our culture at all and you'll get to live as a zoo animal in a neighbourhood with mostly other migrants so that neighbourhood becomes a culturally segregated area" so it's no wonder why things have gone so wrong when taking all these things in consideration.

In reality there is no difference between the two. But by definition, a migrant goes to a country for temporary work and then returns to his country of origin. The so-called migrants we're dealing with are actually immigrants, with permanent residence or seeking it. The thing about refugees that no one talks about, is that their resettlement in western society is not temporary. It is immigration. It's permanent residence and the western countries taking them in have plans to integrate them into society and the workforce. The refugees that are here, will be here forever unless they choose to leave.

Their role model was a sadistic, inbreeding pedophile warlord. They are victims of brainwashing but it has made them what they are. Awful people. I don't know about you but I find sexism to be just as offensive as racism and there is so much more other than the sexism which makes islam so toxic.

I asked one if was dangerous in his city and he laughed and said that his city was completely safe. The other one is going home for two weeks during Christmas and then coming back to Germany. If this is the case why should Sweden consider anybody from Syria in immediate danger and automatically grant them asylum?

Doesn't it bother you that all these military-age men escape, leaving the women and children behind? Millions upon millions escaping from a tiny terror organization such as ISIS, which had, even at its height at most 50-100000 soldiers, is downright pathetic.

According to the Koran every Muslim is supposed to donate a portion of their yearly income to the poor, this is called zakat. If they're Christian send them to the Vatican and demand they put their money where their mouths are and use the billions in donations they receive from churches around the world to help these desperate people. It makes no sense sending them to Germany or Sweden or anywhere else in Europe, outside of the Vatican, and especially the United States where tensions are high. The current game plan our elected official’s are going by is a recipe for disaster.

Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi-Arabia and United Arab Emirates are all rich countries, and integration would go so much smoother as they share a language, religion and culture. Not to mention it would be much easier to return to their home countries when things settle down. I think the international community should put more pressure on them to take in refugees.

For a female that country is suffocating, but for a gay female/person that country is nothing but hell! I feel bad for the afghan females being deported they could be like me... BLA963 Do you know a single thing about islam or have you ever been to a muslim country? Probably not. Do not associate these peoples cultures with islam. Canadas refugees have integrated into Canadian society very well however I do not blame the European people for what some of these refugees do when they come into these countries. It’s unfortunate that these people give a bad name and image for refugees but at the end of the day most people are fleeing for a better chance at life. Maybe interact and meet some of these people and hear their stories. I really do feel bad for them especially since other arab neighboring countries that are far more wealthier and closer to these countries do not grant them asylum. However I do believe we as humans need to understand each other and I’m not saying they are all perfect but they NEED to know that they are in a different country and must contribute to these societies and adapt the culture but pushing them away and having racist attitudes towards them will not change anything. Peace and love to you brother I hope you can at least understand my point of view and we as humans can learn to love and accept each other. In regards to islam we as muslims must respect other peoples religions and cultures and women and not have biased opinions however unfortunately some of the countries have backwards twisted culture BUT it does not represent Islam Peace and love brother from Canada 🇨🇦

It's true that some immigrants have been less distruptive, however, ultimately, it will still change Nordic demographics, identity, and sense of community. A sense of community has been shown to be a determining factor as to how well a community cooperates and and ethnic identity plays a major role. It's a feeling of being a part of a large extended family. This is lost, when ethnic demographics change. In the US, even where some different ethnicities have integrated in the past, are now being pitted against each other, for political gain, which is fracturing the country. European countries are largely founded on ethnic identity (even if you go into the distant past, where there were some different ethnicities in the same European countries (even though still just different Europeans), it took years of war and contention before they've finally develped a sense of unity). An Indian will never be seen by a native Nordic, as a native, but always as a "guest." It's just best that everyone stays in their own native countries. If you think the Nordic countries have a desirable economy, policies, etc., why don't you create that in your own country?

That's the catch though there are many instances of single adult men claiming they are children. There was a story circulating the other day where I worker was murdered because she was attempting to prove the ages of migrants. There is also the fact they're completely ignoring other countries on their way to getting to the rich countries with amazing social services. They don't want to pick up a basic job in Turkey or attempt to fix their own country.

If you have one less parent taking care of the kids in the house, chances are you're going to have an overall higher crime rate in the region in the long run. The kids won't get enough economic or familial support growing up so they may turn to crime in the future. That's what happened in the US when the Bush jailed significantly more young black men when he was President, some of whom were fathers.

I’m from South Korea and studying in USA now. I’ve been to Northern Europe 4 years ago. At that time, I felt Northern European countries are like a heaven. All people were kind to me and some people suggested me to come to their country and study there even though I’m asian. They didn’t care about my ethnicity. Due to the duty of army, I worked as a soldier in my country. In terms of that, I think “immigrants” in Nordic countries are coward. During my army period, North Korea fired artillery and we were about to war. Those immigrants said “I’m gonna die if I return my country.” Even now, their family, friends are dying in Syria or other countries. Go back to your country and fight for your friends and your women. Why do you make problems in innocent countries? To Swedish, Sweden for Swedish. Be proud that you are Swedish. My country and Japan are ethnic homogenous countries in the world and we have pretty good life condition. No one says that my country and Japan are wrong because we don’t have many immigrants in our country. I’m glad that I’m planning to go Scandinavian countries in next year. Hur är det? Jag har studerat svenska lite taget. Tack för att du läste mina kommentarer

One big issue is the long process for asylum which keeps refugees in limbo, not knowing and not being permitted to work or do something meaningful. The signals that Sweden welcomes everyone are very false and needs to be cleared... The cat one mouse game of hiding ID papers and doing a mistake of lying puts immigrants as persona non grata and forces some into criminality to sustain themselves. The last terrorist attack, the truck on Drottninggatan, was In my eyes not an Islamist deed but an Uzbek guy , not considered for political asylum and legal stay who slipped into petty crime and drugs and did a desperate thing when he discovered a truck with keys in at the crowded downtown Stockholm. A suicidal act. The difficulty of tackling this bureaucracy is the taboo of raising critical questions without being labeled racist, far right nationalist or fascist in a very political correct media climate.

Give them a chance, and then see if they have positive or negative effect on society and economy. After 5 years or so - check police record, language ability, tax contribution. Fail = deportation. It's called conditional accepting. You never know up front who is good or bad. There are some smart and intelligent people fleeing danger but most are just benefit seekers who think the world owes them.
