I love these exercise videos. I've noticed before that sit-ups and burpees don't feel too great on the back but I thought I'd push through them. Well I'm glad to learn of the alternatives exercises you guys showed in the last 2 videos.
Thank you so much for this. I was doing about 50 sit-ups a day. Then was simply bending over one day and “bang” lower-back pain that put me out for a few days. Maybe I need to change that thanks again, you guys make a difference.
This is so important!! Thank you for sharing 🙏
First no burpees, now no situps. This is a good week. I will make the switch to more planks, thanks guys

@@Nobodyokbro if you are in your 20 and most of the 30 and in good shape without issues that makes sense. If you already had back issue and out of shape it can fuck up your back badly. I used to do just fine. but I sit a lot and in the last couple years it ruined my back.

Jocy, sorry you have issues that you need help with, but you struck gold when you found these guys. Haven't found an issue yet that they haven"t done a video on. Kind of like Walmart, if they don't have it, you don't need it. As for their senses of humor, they almost (but not quite) make you forget how much you're hurting. Stick around, enjoy and learn bunches!

Thanks guys, Good video. I had a stroke and need an exercise for core strengthening my core
thank you!!
thanks for this i returned to the gym after 2 years, thanks to the pandemic but i always exercised by carrying a heavy sandbag and walking with it for an hour or more. it was great but, i don't think i ever really got to work on back so when i got back to the gym, i did my declined sit ups and it hurt! my back felt empty, that's the feeling i got. needless to say, i think sitting down at work, gaming either did a number or my sit ups were always bad. moving to planks now
"we can fix about everything but a broken heart"
Always think of lumbopelvic region when working out the core
Side plank is a good one. But when carelessness , it is easy to get a pinching in the shoulder. Important to push off and do not hang in the shoulder. 😊
Thank you some much Bob and Brad for the advice. I have one question, is it safe to do dead lift and leg rises with a bulging disc ?

Hi Bob and Brad, thank you for sharing your knowledge! I wonder: if sit-ups are not good for the spine, pilates' exercise of rolling up is not good neither? It is in general presented as an excellent exercise to the core and to stretch the spine. I hope you can reply to my question!

I love plank. I do it a lot and I always feel good when I do it. I do yoga so we are in plank a lot. Just recently I decided to look at my posture in plank in the mirror and it looks terrible! My scapula nearly look like they are winging. But when I do the wing test against a wall, I don't have scapula winging. Wondering what it is with plank. Can you do a video on plank posture corrections? Or what exercises to do to be in a good plank? Thanks!!
Brad: what do you do instead of the side plank? You mention doing some other variation but you don't say what it is. Thank you!
I believe they're fine provided you have a strong enough lower back. Provided you are deadlifting or doing back extensions (any movement to counter the crunching motion) your posture will be fine. In addition, the rounded position of your lower back won't be an issue in the crunch i your back itself is strong enough to handle it. What do the most famous PTs on KZread think?
Good
The sit up while some people yank on the neck can be catastrophic. Injury to the vertebral artery if too much force
So, how long should one hold the Plank position for it to be of benefit? I had to stop doing planks due to upper back and shoulder pain, but I had them up to 8 mins I think, Perhaps that is too long for most people? (My age ha ha) I do tons of pushups in my basic workout program. People tell me that is working my core plenty but I cannot do many sit ups. I am thinking I still need to work my core more. Thanks for the videos
There you go again mentioning the book on posture by your friend. What's the name of the book?
thanks for the good advice.

Hello, for the side planks, what do you suggest for someone who suffers from shoulder rotator cuff syndrome? The side planks give a discomfort to the shoulders. And are the planks the only other alternative for sit ups? Sit ups huts my lower back to the point that I cannot lay flat. Any suggestions on modifications. Thank you.

There's a view that if you keep the posterior tilt on your hips throughout the motion, then it removes the shear on the back and the full sit-up becomes a useful, good exercise. What's your view on that?
@trnj467
2 жыл бұрын
This also harmful because you well develop posterior pelvic tilt instead of anterior pelvic tilt , plank keep balance between the two
I feel like after a while sit ups aren't good for body building, because you're not challenging the muscles with anything new. Would wearing a weight vest while planking be bad for your back?
Bob and brad whats popping my gees?
What about a 200kg deadlift? That's surely about 400% the stress on the spine but it's not considered dangerous when done properly?
I can't do the plank but I sure like the dead bug!
What do i do if i need to do them for military
Still continuing doing sit-ups... I know I'm stupid.
How about crunches?
Tell that to Hershall Walker
If planks are good, then why would you not do that type of static exercise for other body parts?
When i was doing situps my back was clicking on the way down
How do I earn abs without doing sit ups
hey guys. remember me haha. well I finally started getting physio done. turns out it wasn't a muscle tare in my lower back like I thought. it's actually the FACET joint . I must have worn it out then it got aggravated and I was told that when this happens the lower back muscles have spasms and cramp up . so can you guys please make a video explaining the Facet joint, and why it would suddenly out of the blue decide to give out like it did to me :/. thanks fellas

+physicaltherapyvideo also can you make another video on how to properly sit in a car chair. I got one of those 7 way adjust seat with built in custom lumbar support. i have so many options it's confusing what's the best for the joint and back. what seat position and such. thanks and keep being awesome!
I hate that the situp is so common. Like the go to exercise for the abs. I've stopped doing sit-ups so I don't get a back injury. My back is vulnerable enough as is. So the planks and dead bug seems a lot better.
Haha you guys are too cool 👍
confused about the form for the dead bug exercise. you mention flattening the back, is this not bad because the back is going into an extreme range of motion, i.e. is it not safer to have the back in the mid point between being rounded and flattened so that you are maintaining the natural curve in the spine?
@archiesmith2361
2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely correct. They should not be saying to flatten the back as this increases the load on the back. Keep a natural curve by putting your hands under the small of the back. Please refer to Dr. McGill, The Back Mechanic. He has devoted his life to studying the mechanics of the back.
In my jiu jitsu class the coaches make me do full sit ups from time to time. I really don't do them if I don't have to.
@yeaturnboi659
4 жыл бұрын
Sit ups are a good exercise, but people cheat on it and then they suffer the concequences. Two good tips 1. Don't pull on your neck thinking it will help you 2. Keep your feet flat and not anchored to anything, and do not move your pelvis during the sit up. This is what causes the pain, bad form

Keep your back stiff when you do a sit up. You are bending your spine. Use your muscles to move up, not your spine.

Not sure which branch of the military is going to planks. They conduct studies and go back to the sit up. Maybe in another 100 years they'll phase the sit up out?
