I completely disagree. No Way Home ended perfectly and closed the chapter on this part of Peter’s life. Bringing back everyone makes the ending of NWH meaningless and inconsequential. Time to introduce new characters to this Peter. We need to meet Harry, Gwen Stacey and others (who could be done much better realistically)

Completely agree as Marvel and Sony should not bring back MJ and Ned at least for the next Spider-Man film. This is a new beginning for Peter and he should make new friends. Should they come back eventually?! Yes…..but not now. Down the line they bring back Ned and he gets back in original memories of Peter and imagine how emotionally that would be if it happened let’s say 5 years from now.

It should've been "Daredevil's Role Is Crucial In Spiderman 4".

I fully understand this argument, but you have to realize that the third and final movie of the Tom Holland trilogy really closes out his high school chapter as well as his high school friends. Introducing a new trilogy with Tom Holland, I think would be a great opportunity to then bring in new characters like Gwen Stacey, or Harry Osborne, or a new set of villains that we haven’t previously seen before on screen.

I hear John's point, but I can do without Ned. He has no resemblance to the comic Ned. Also, he would make no sense as the Hobgoblin (Lego sets to criminal mastermind/Green Goblin successor is a leap). Let's see Felicia Hardy, Gwen Stacy, Harry Osborn and I am big fan of Phil Urich (he can be an anti-Peter/rival and used as a stand-in for the Hobgoblin).

I love Ned and MJ and Jacob and Zendaya in the roles. But I think with the clean slate they left Peter in it opens the door to introduce new characters. I would love to see them introduce new characters. It’s the perfect opportunity for them now to introduce the MCU version of Harry Osborne. He can be Peter’s new best friend and they could introduce Gwen Stacy or Felicia Hardy as Peter’s new love interest.

Given oscorp doesn't exist in the MCU as was confirmed in No Way Home its likely neither Norman or Harry either. So it would be pretty interesting to see if potentially Ned develops into Hobgoblin like in the comics. Perhaps even developing the personality from flashes of Norman from No Way Home

i'm kinda with Ray, I think they should take a break with them for now, there are so many characters to explore in the spider-man world that we haven't touched yet that need screentime to introduce and build up. It think its fair game for them to come back into the picture later tho. I love Ned, but its already been done, the raimi trilogy is pretty masterful without a Ned, tho have no issue with him being back as well. I just really want to see them go deep spidey

I would prefer they don’t come back for awhile. NWH gives Spider-Man a fresh start. You can introduce new characters like black cat or Gwen Stacey. And bring back characters they haven’t done anything with like scorpion and possibly Donald glovers prowler.

Love Ned and Zendaya's MJ but I'm also all for a clean slate, Harry Osbourne and Oscorp to become players in all of this. I also personally prefer Gwen Stacy to Mary Jane so I'm a fan of that angle too.

I don't need Ned. I didn't hate his character. Michelle Jones and Ned didn't make me feel like I was watching Spider-Man. A big part of Peter is his relationship with the Osbornes and Mary Jane and Gwen. I don't think the Raimi movies would have worked if they tried to do what the MCU did. Amazing Spider-Man DEFINITELY wouldn't have worked without Gwen. The audience is supposed to be Spider-Man. Spider-Man is the protagonist. It's a film, not a park ride. Also Antman 2 sucked.

I think I'm gonna agree with Ray here. I think we need a movie that shows Peter being on his own. He's been supported or should I say carried by other character in his own movies. Spider-Man mostly on his own in the comics, from what I know. I think we need to see that struggle and let him carry his own movie. Saying that it won't be a Spider-Man without Ned and MJ the so called "heart and soul" kinda felt a little off, I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong. I would miss Ned though.

We are never going to see even half the characters people think we will see in the MCU. i think Gwen, Harry, Mary Jane, Eddie Brock, Norman Osborn are off the table. Marvel don't want to redo characters unless its a fun multiversal connection like j jonah jameson, which honestly feels, like the whole thing is just a big wink than anything else. And then Michelle Jones is not Mary Jane, Uncle Ben barely exists, if not at all. If the symbiote is used it will be because of the link to the venom movies. While certain characters they did reuse like Flash are NOTHING like the comics or any incarnation previous. And people still hold on to this weird hope for some reason.

I don't think Ned is that great or necessary but I feel this is a problem with Peter Parker in general, his best support characters aren't his regular friends aside from the girls he is dating or previously did. His super hero friends, family, bosses like JJ or specific characters of the story, and super heroes like the torch or daredevil and otherw are way more interesting. Even Harry Osborn was just really interesting in a few stories and was often ignored. Flash was a bit more but still in the background. His villains, love interests and other super heroes who were actually interacting with him profoundly were way more interesting like the human torch or daredevil or all the hundreds of heroes that were more interesting than Harry (or Ned) or Flash. The truth is that these characters in the end weren't THE friends, they're just iconical, and vessels. Harry exists pretty much to heighten the stakes of Norman and Peter and Flash, although has a great arc after the army, was often just a bully. I'd rather see Peter finally meeting Johnny Storm or Matt or Black Cat or Mary Jane or Gwen or even a villain. Alternatively they can try pulling one of the best stories of Harry/Ned/Flash but these in the MCU weren't put into a point where it matters, like if Flash in the MCU suddenly went to the war and got paralyzed, who would actually care? Flash in the MCU is just annoying and Ned never gave the foreshadowing weight of his future villain arc, but if course he's not Harry. Just like MJ isn't Mary Jane though, but was at least more integral to the plot, they could easily give Peter a friend that's way more interesting than Ned was. I mean, technically Tony Stark was that already.

I want the trio to be united in the next film. I loved that moment when Peter and Ned was reunited at end of Endgame. They're part of Peter's heart and they make him whole. I believe it's the same for Ned and MJ. Jacob was right. Ned doesn't have any friends, and the last movie made me so worried for him. And please! No more Peter's bff dying! Let him save this one!

I personally would’ve liked it better if they had MJ died instead of Aunt may they could kind of do the first Gwen Stacy thing.

The should make him the Hobgoblin like he was in the comics, Ned even mentioned to Peter Parker that he doesn’t want to turn into a supervillain and try to kill his own best friend, because of OG spider-man’s friend Harry Osborn died.

I am afraid that if Ned is brought back, they may go down the Hobgoblin storyline. And it will depend how they tackle that story.

I disagree, I think losing Michelle and Ned is the best thing to happen to the character outside of losing the Iron Boy element of the character. These roles can easily be filled with Harry Osborn for Ned and Mary Jane Watson/Gwen Stacy. Ned was fine, but that role belongs to Ganke when they bring in Miles. Plus again he’s not Harry lol And while Zendaya is a phenomenal actress and they can call her Mary Jane Watson all the want. But she acted nothing like the character and was just way too depressing that I never understood what Peter saw in her besides looks.

Imagine, Ned becoming Hobgoblin in Spider-Man 4, and going after Spider-Man to kill him, cause he doesn’t remember who Peter is. And in like in the 2nd act of the movie Ned remembers Peter, and tries to be by his side and ends up getting killed and Peter mourns him through the rest of the movie.

To me, the difference between going without MJ and Ned and going without Foggy and Karen has to do with plot. MJ and Ned were written out (temporarily, at least). Their not knowing Peter anymore is a direct consequence of what happened in No Way Home and sets up a very different path for Peter. On the other hand, Season 3 of Daredevil ended by bringing the gang back together, not by splitting them up. So to have Karen and Foggy gone would not make very much sense. Unless they had decided Netflix wasn't in continuity, but again, I think that if they were ever going to do that they should not have hired the same actors to play Daredevil and Kingpin. I do think and hope that MJ and Ned will be back, but I am totally fine with them being gone for a while. Ray is totally right. I want to see Felicia finally fully realized as Black Cat in this film. If Peter is getting more and more wrapped up in his life as Spider-Man, that's the perfect time to bring in the love interest who falls in love with the hero identity instead of the man himself.

One of the things about Spider-Man is the fact that his secret affects the ones he loves so many times. Whether it is MJ, Aunt May, and now Nedd. That is his baggage he carries.

The only plot that’ll make sense for ned and mj to come back is if ned becomes hobgoblin. Or else it’ll feel like the movies are becoming more and more redundant

I don’t see them completely moving away from MJ and Ned. You can still introduce new characters and those relationships with Peter. But kicking MJ and Ned out wouldn’t make sense. Maybe not as big of a role like the last two movies but they should still be around.

Maybe not in this movie but we could have a scene where in Peter’s room where we see a wall of photos where he (basically stalked them) of them as events he “missed”.

the soul and heart of these movies are Peter and we are just fine watching these movies without Ned. and he didn't want to come back in the first place and they better keep it this way! thats what the story requires! he is NOT needed at all! he has never been an essential part of it! and saying spider-man does not make sense without Ned is like... While I enjoyed No Way Home, I didn’t love it, feeling the ending fell really flat. Heroes make sacrifices, and Tom Holland’s Peter made plenty of them. Giving up a spot on the Avengers, going to space even it it kills him, Being willing to take a bullet for some crook in a deal gone bad, And being willing to give up his existence if it means saving the multiverse. Losing Tony Stark and Aunt May, was enough for him to lose I feel. And the very willingness to have everyone forget him, demonstrates his heart. So taking away his family, friends, and memory in the story he played such a crucial role in, feels too depressing, To the point where it’s mean spirited. He literally has nothing, and the story choice introduces a lot of unanswered questions, as well as closing the door on several dangling plot threads/relationships in future films. I wouldn’t mind a scene in Avengers 5-6 where Wong has to undo the spell, Peter asking “How do you remember Peter Parker?” Wong saying something like “Kid, I didn’t even know your name was Peter Parker until you said it just now.” Implying Wong was so annoyed with Peter and his friends, that he never even caught his name, Hence the spell didn’t work on him.

I think bringing back MJ and Ned would basically negate the NWH ending. At least for the next movie. The whole point of the ending was Peter letting them go and then figuring out his new life as Peter and Spider-man without them and anyone else he previously knew.

I think by them bringing them back you ruin the special moment that you created at the ending of nwh, it’s like them brining back iron after he died in endgame

I disagree that Ned and MJ are absolutely essential, I think the idea of Peter now being without his friends is actually kinda interesting, much like the 5 years later reveal in Endgame it makes you curious about how these characters are living in this world right now, and who knows? Maybe this opens the door for Peter making new friends like Harry Osborne or hell, maybe he meets a girl named Mary Jane, and the reason Peter could start to be attracted to her is that when he hears that it makes him think of MJ, plus Peter never had any real chemistry with MJ anyways in my opinion, I never felt like the 2 of them were in love at all, and I never really liked Zendaya’s MJ either, mainly because I never understood what they were going for with her, it’s like she’s nerd but she’s also kinda not, she’s always saying really bizarre things and likes being sad, I don’t get it, this could be an opportunity to give him a love interest who feels like an actual love interest this time around, I mean just because Peter had friends in the past doesn’t mean it’s now impossible for him to make new ones, also I don’t know if they’re gonna revisit the symbiote but let me tell you, this could be a great time to do it, because imagine this, Peter is completely on his own now, his aunt is dead and the entire world has forgotten about his existence, he has nobody, and the way they could do it is have him be really depressed at the start of the movie, then he gets the symbiote and it starts making him feel better, and thus he never wants to take it off and he really starts to lose himself to it, and so it’s almost like the symbiote is a drug, the thing he’s taking to make himself feel better in the time of emotional distress, I’m serious, they could actually make this into a really interesting story given where Peter is at right now

Nothing against the actor, the character wasn’t nesscary. I get he was Peter’s friend, but he was just annoying.

I think for Spider-Man 4 majority of it will have Peter alone really anchoring in his loneliness and then at the very end he has a change of heart and tries to enter MJ and Ned’s life again, not best friends but just keeping an eye on them.

No Way Home set up Ned to be Hobgoblin. That's why they had him wearing blue and yellow Tobey was talking to him how his best friend turned on him.

I don’t agree at all that Ned is “needed” to make a Tom Holland Spider-Man movie. I liked him in the other movies but I don’t think he’s essential at all. And it’s absolutely still Spider-Man without Ned lol, I think that’s silly to suggest.

Ray forgot 60 - 70% of superheroes movies they are on their civilian characters, so moving out of MJ and Ned it means introducing new civilan characters on Peter's world and take note Aunt May died and there is no Osborn on the MCU. I have a bad feeling Ned will work out to have a slimmer body, be in love with MJ but Peter on his way and becomes Hobgoblin cuz for a story stand point its a juicy one... Its predictable maybe a twist Ned's new bestfriend the Hobgoblin. And Spiderman moving on pass Tony Starks Tech going to basic not the people around him.

Love Ned, and the potential of Hob Goblin as an eventual possibility and how that would mess with Peter’s psyche (having set Ned and MJ on this new path) would make for a great narrative.

Yeah. That's bull. It's Spiderman not Spiderman and friends. In the comics, there are versions of Spidey that focuses on him and there are issues that plays with his relationships. To say Ned or MJ as crucial to the story is disregarding why Spidey as a character is popular. Ned and MJ are supporting characters. They can be replaced. They are not essential.

The thing about this debate is... it starts to reek of nostalgia bait, of 'member berries. Just because these movies have worked with Ned and MJ doesn't mean they can ONLY work with Ned and MJ. We have to be willing and able to let them go. I personally would rather see him being more of a... cameo+ / supporting- level role. Give him a couple quick scenes, allude to him, but that's it. I'm more interested in seeing how Peter tries to adjust to life without those two. Let's see him try to start fresh, but still check in on Ned and MJ now and then. Have Ned and MJ get confused, maybe even a little scared, to see Spider-Man almost stalking them. But meanwhile, let's see Peter try to join a new social circle. Let's see him meet interesting people in his apartment building. Let's see him get a part-time job and try to make nice with his co-workers. Let's see him meet Gwen, Mary Jane, Harry, Miles, Cindy, Yuri, etc. There's a WHOLE bunch of other characters we could see him interact with. Let's explore some of these options. John is always saying that Star Wars constantly makes itself feel too small by sticking with characters and locales that we've already seen, that they should expand. So why not do that with Spider-Man?
