Why I Daily Drive a $1000 Car

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I'd say most people trap themselves in leases of cars that they can "afford" but prevent them from ever affording anything they actually want. See how a cheap daily can get you into Ferrari ownership in a matter of years. Most end up doing nothing more than driving mediocre cars and spinning around the automotive depreciation cycles for decades. I've learned my lesson with cars and am trying to save you from learning the same.

    In this video Rob explains why it's easy to drive a $1000 car when you also have access to drive brand new exotic cars whenever you like. To be fair, I have done the 'drive a junky car to work and keep the nice car in the garage' thing for a few years. IMO it's not worth it. I was spending 95% of my time in a junky car and had a hellcat in the garage that I barely ever drove. Why spend all that money and insurance cost on a car that you rarely get to enjoy. It's probably best to get a cool but not too expensive car and drive it everyday, like a mustang GT or scat pack.

  • @Jrtowns1

    @Jrtowns1

    4 жыл бұрын

    I was thinking the same thing. If you make 60k and drive a $1000 car to save up for that dream car will it be worth it at the end to spend that money to buy a car. Having access to a dream car that you can write off as a business expense and make money with makes this opinion easy to have.

    I have the same ideas about owning cars. I love owning interesting and cheap used cars, driving them for a few years, and then selling them for mostly the same money. It doesn't mean you have to drive junk. It just means you aren't paying the depreciation and buying what you want for a huge discount.

    I wish this would've been released when I bought my car last year. I thought I needed a new car, got screwed with their "It's not in stock" trick because I wasn't aware when I was first buying -- and now I have a large monthly payment on top of the crazy insurance. I wasn't aware of all of my options. The only concept that I can approve of my decision was that I have a 10 year 100,000 warranty. I will keep it to the very last chug of the engine. Love your videos, Rob! Subscribed, didn't realize I wasn't subbed yet with as many as your videos as I've watched.

    @@randomvideosn0where a lot of people care about brand name. Why do brands like Gucci, LV, Range Rover, Porsche etc sell so well? Also the refinement and reliability of a new C-Class is unmatched by pretty much any cheaper used car and the Burmester sound system will be perfectly tuned to the interior of the car. It still makes sense to buy a C-class/3-series for a lot of people. A young professional would be more at home in a new C class than a 1000 dollar Toyota and a nice weekend car.

    I've always been a subscriber to the "drive something cheap as a daily" theory. It's just easier and more freeing. You can park it anywhere and not really care. You don't have to worry about it. That said, I've always taken good care of my beaters - wash them and keep them clean, wax them once in a while. Having a clean, respectable, -nice- $2500 car is awesome.

    I recently bought a brand new 6-speed Corolla, to be used as a second car. I only bought it because I've been dreaming of learning to drive a manual for a very long time. So, I spent years saving up cash to buy a second car plus the insurance. It wasn't an impulse decision, it was a decision six years in the making. No remorse here, because I saved up, had a very long time to think about it, didn't spend beyond my means. There's nothing wrong with buying a new car. Just be able to pay cash for it.

Through college, all over the country, everywhere. Plus if something ever happened to the car, no big loss, I can replace it. I saved so much money keeping it and fixing minor issues, so I could buy other stuff. I've never had a car payment and I'm definitely not sad about that. I even got to take some international trips and buy project cars and upgrade parts even though I'm from a poorer family. Def save the money!

    My suggestion on how to use the jacket - I have a "throwaway" jacket that I use for in the winter chores like shoveling snow or doing yard cleanup. That way, I don't need to worry about dirtying or sweating up my good jackets. You can use that jacket as your throwaway coat, one you can dirty up and not have to worry about it. It will save you money on dry cleaning.
