How Hertz Tricked Us Years Ago

Oh I miss Bob Evans! I live in the South and they don't have them here but that's a good little eatin spot.
Hertz ripped me off when I was 21 forgot my credit card on a quick trip to Orlando and made a deposit of $500.00. When I returned the car they refused to give me my $500.00 back. I called the Police they showed them my receipt and the Cop said this was a civil matter and he couldn't do anything. When I got home called Hertz Corporate but got the run around. 1 year later the New York State Consumer Affairs did a announcement that if anyone used Hertz rental Car in Orlando Florida and made a $500.00 deposit didn't get their Money back and has a receipt to contact them. I found the receipt called them and ended up getting my $500.00 with interest and 5 free car rentals. Used the 5 free Rentals which was a pain in the ass to use because the Manager at the Hertz place made such a fuss about it each place I rented from. Never have and Never will Rent a Hertz car again.

They said it was insurance. I took the car back 2 hour later and told them I wanted my money back. I had to call corporate again and they sent my money back less $24 for the 2 hours. Rob, I am glad that you posted this video. I used to work for Hertz a few years ago, and I enjoyed it, but it's a revolving door. I left after 9 hellacious months, and I was almost vilified for leaving them. Two years later, COVID-19 hit, and the Hertz that I worked at ain't looking so good right now. I'm not clairvoyant by ANY means, but all the same, bullet dodged, crisis averted.
Hertz is the only company that I respect, they will rent to people under 25. Its inexcusable to deny an adult, 18+, a rental. I understand the insurance issue but these agencies self-insure from my understanding. My two cents from being stranded years ago. It should be based on driving history.

Even if I went in there at 19 (don't remember, but it's plausible), that means that I had 3 years of spotless record already. No reason not to rent to me aside from age. Just doesn't seem right.

Thank for the lesson. No look into the books until an escrow deposit is made. Hertz is done & getting ready for BK.
Rob, brilliant move. hertz is only going to get stronger from here. The whole car ownership world is changing rapidly and it seems to me that most of the younger generations, the current 20 and 30 year olds, don't really want to own a car.. they just want ACCESS to a car. Hence the success of Zip car and Turo. I can totally see Hertz reformatting to attract and cater to that audience which is absolutely growing daily. Btw, thank you for all your informative and entertaining content. Keep up the great work! I hope in a couple years I can attend one of your adventure drives. 😁

I rented a new C7 Z06 from Hertz at San Francisco Airport last year and immediately drove it 2 hours north to Thunderhill Raceway for a full track day. The rental only set me back $425 and definitely left that much rubber on track. It overheated it a few times, once so bad it wouldn't re-start. They also had GTR's and 911's.

Hertz filed for bankruptcy
The Hertz Stock (HTZ) is a risky place to put your money right now. I held their stock for 2 weeks (sold it all yesterday), I made a quick buck. I think the 'American' side of their business is likely to restructure through bankruptcy, this could mean that all common stock shareholders will loose their money and the company will re-issue stock to the market (NO shareholder will be given new stock). There is also a chance that the company restructures through a bankruptcy and keeps their current stock (maybe even issues more stock, which would be bad in the long run, and will likely cause the price to dip down before rising). In summary, there might be an opportunity here, but WAIT, Hertz will soon be making an announcement about their current/future financial situation (sometime around May 22nd/May 25).

That's an old French arms trials trick. Have all the big makers submit guns for trials and then say "this has been an awesome trials, we've all had a lot of fun and learned a lot of things and we are pleased to announce that we've selected none of you lot and you can all go home, it's been real, we'll be in touch, don't call us, we'll call you!" then take the best bits from every gun and have the state arsenals make something with those best bits. This doesn't produce as rifle as great as you think it would, so it probably doesn't make so good a car rental concern, either.
Looking like an encyclopedia salesman there Rob.
