To be fair, those people shouldn't be renting exotic cars then. Since exotic car rentals don't offer insurance like a regular rental company does then they should know better that there is too much risk involved with driving a $100k+ car. Even if they up their insurance coverage to cover the rental they'd still be screwed for several years with their rates going up.

I rented a Dodge Ram from enterprise a couple years ago and some jackass scratched it with a shopping cart in the parking lot at Target. It was me, I am a jackass. I thought I was going to have to pay for it, it was a pretty significant scratch and it went almost the entire length of the rear passenger door. I bought some buffing compound and I fixed it to where it was almost gone but I thought they were still going to notice. I was shitting bricks when I returned it, they didn't notice it on the walk around, then I was expecting a call for a couple weeks afterward but they never called. I am now much more careful when parking unfamiliar vehicles.

It's super entertaining and I enjoy your videos, but I don't want to become a customer, where I spend a few thousand bucks on a rental, and it's really easy to cause some huge amount of damage, and it will become some horrible dispute. It's really odd that watching an exotic car rental channel run by an owner of a top exotic car rental company makes the viewer feel this way. Most channels I watch, I end up becoming a customer or buying the thing they're constantly talking about. You're emphasizing the worst part of you business.

One of the exotic groups around my area had a ferrari go into a guard rail last week on a very easy downhill i nail daily. Point being while someone like you or I would do our best to look after the car and drive it within our ability, you have others that just see them as toys to go out and thrash like any other machine. Your Lambo bumper example would indeed be classified as fraud. Shops used to do exactly that all the time, claim to use OEM parts, but use repops instead, or not repair it all all, and either pocket the difference, or split it with the customer. Insurance companies seem to be slowly getting better at stopping that now. For example, a coworker of mine got hit, and the shop that fixed it had all the detailed receipts for the parts, and took tons of photos before, during, and after the repairs, and it was all required by the insurance.

I work at a body shop, and if you put a new bumper on the insurance claim, it needs to get a new bumper. Otherwise its insurance fraud. Its even down to a freaking bumper bracket, if you put it on the invoice, it better be on the car.

  • @djolecar88

09:05 it’s not fraud but if you do not have proof of that repair you’ll never be able to claim the same damage. Example if you get the money for the Lamborghini bumper and don’t buy and or replace it. Next time around you’re out of luck. I’ve checked with insurance recently. Albeit my car is 6 years old and I ended up not pocketing money because it was just easier to fix it at a authorized shop.

But charge a los of noney for a rock chip in a wind screen ... that should be cover by the ensurance. As you said - Accepting the insurance company's offer after inspecting damage, and then not doing anything isn't fraud. Making representations to the insurance company about what you're going to do with the money, and then not doing it (or at least making a good faith attempt to do it) is fraud.

  • @ViolentMLG

Yeah, although your definition VS Robs example is two different things IMO. If you say; "I want 35K so I can put an OEM bumper on it", that's one thing. If you say; "I want 35K because the OEM bumper is 35K", then I just think that's the truth. I think one thing we forget in this equation is the purpose of insurance. Principle of indemnity, to restore one financially. Its in the base of most property and casualty insurance, you cannot benefit from an insurance claim, nor can you lose from one. You are to be restored whole financially. In this scenario, this is my property, it was damaged, to restore me financially for my loss, I need X amount. If my bumper is 35K, then its 35K. If my car lost 20K in value due to a collision on its record, I want 20K. Prior to this accident, I had a 300K Lambo. Now I have a 245K Lambo with 35K in repairs needed. You caused me a loss of roughly 55K. I now need 55K to be restored whole financially. That's the purpose of the insurance, and the insurance does its job once it pays out. Its only purpose is to restore me financially due to the negligence of their insured. Now technically, legally, I do think that you're supposed to use the money for repairs, regardless of your negotiation for something or not, which I think is BS regardless, but it exist for fraud.

Why did they not put ppf on the car if they're so afraid of getting rock chips?

So that they can con the renter into paying $100k to fix the rock chips.

They’re not afraid of the car getting rock chips. They’re afraid of the entire front end of the car being sandblasted from consistent 150+mph speeds in the desert. Damage is damage. It’s up to the driver to prevent damage. Not the rental company.

I can see the insurance company paying the value of the part that is on the car and a cheaper part being put on as fraud. So let's look at it this way the comes with a 35k bumper. That bumper is OEM insurance is paying for OEM part to restore value back to original. If someone chooses to repair cheaper when the vehicle is sold they take the loss then. Why would the insurance have the right to pick and choose cheaper parts that will devalue the vehicle more. If an insurance company would take me to court the argument would be was that the OEM bumper that was damaged and was the replacement 35k. They paid for the part that was damaged not the part thar was installed or purchased.

Yo Rob, if I'm renting your car for seven days, and I have a problem on the first day, would you be alright with me calling you up and asking for body shop recommendations? Honestly, that is what I would do anyway.

As a landlord, tenants that wreck/damage try to hide damage drives me crazy. Dealing with the high turnover of renting out cars and dealing with all these scumbags wrecking my vehicles continuously would drive me crazy! I couldn’t handle it…

come on sumo tomo.. this isn't a place for you to vent about your problems after a few to many whiskeys after work.. or maybe it is 🤣😂 i hope you sort it out sumo tomo!! best of luck!! this story seems nuts.. you could buy a whole car the price of these rock chips.. i would have rock chipped his hole dealership from a helicopter.. a whole pallet over his dealership.. it's raining rock chips this time off year.. bloody mid night tornado's ripping through his area, the weather god heard he wanted some rock chips for Christmas.. that's just one of those mysterious weather problems.. i believe that's just a natural disaster.. I'll do it for a free adventure drive in Europe if you include the car, because i probably won't be able to come back to the states after that one..

Sorry to bring up old news with the mclaren but I’m genuinely concerned how you got that many rock chips… I drive in northern Canada with salt on the roads and even after owning my car for 3 winters it’s not that bad

I don't know how it is in exotic car world but when it comes to more pedestrian cars there is no such thing as a duty to repair if you negotiate a higher payout than the initial insurance offer. Also just because you want only the best for you baby does not mean an insurance will agree to pay for new parts if old ones can be repaired properly. Should you jump the gun and get new parts yourself it might end up being on you. That's why you negotiate first and you get what you get but then it is up to you to fix it or not. I bet those guys will have pretty hard time getting those 100K from insurance just based on the pictures if they can't even show the old parts. And even if they could I can't see an insurance agreeing to pay 15K for wheels if they could been repaired properly for $250. My two cents no one asked for. :)
