Why Does My Plaiting Look Good On Top, But Bad On The Bottom? - Tips On Making A Nylon Paracord Whip

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hi Everyone, in this video we'll talk about some ways that we can greatly improve how our plaiting looks on the underside of our whips, so that it can look just as good on the bottom as it does on the top.

It takes the wisdom and confidence of a master craftsman to happily show their very first piece and all the flaws in it, so we can see how nobody starts out perfect. Bravo

As always a great video. I went through the same issues when I started making whips 3 years ago. I found that a mirror under my work made it easier to see what was going on. Now I can visualize it without the mirror.

Awesome video! And there I was thinking, will he shoot from underneath to show what's going on with the backside of the whip?...... of course he will, it's Nick. And with split screen too!😃 WMD: whipmaker diagnostician - how to prevent gaps, as well as motion sickness and back problems from constantly leaning forwards to check progress👌🏽 And as always, nice to see the lovely Tipper😸

Great video, Nick! I have only made a few whips but I quickly figured it out since I had to re-plait so many times. I particularly liked the advice about the angles. I have been doing the same but I felt like I was “cheating”. Tipper is a great content actor🐥👍

This is great! There is so much detail to things that may seem obvious but which can be easily missed, especially when starting something new like whip making. This so helpful, thank you!

Very useful video Nick, thanks again! There is one thing I would like to know. On the body of the whips that I build, the size of each of the four sides formed by the weave is always different, they are never the same width ... Is this thing natural or does it happens because there are too many or few strands to cover the diameter of the belly in some parts of the whip? I hope I have explained myself well and I apologize if my explanation is a little bit confused, but I find no better way to write this, thanks for any answer you can give me! Keep it up Nick!

After plaiting a full round. I like to push down and up on the strands. I find it gives it a nice even look on the bottom as well as the top of the whip .

Another good explanation. I made my first whip about a month ago after watching the 11 year old video lol. Currently working on another one for my son using you're 2020 video. Only issues I keep coming up with is the strand lengths you say to use but I come up quite short. I even added 5 feet to the 20' in the old video to 25' from a comment I read on it and still came up about 6" short. Kinda frustrating.

Bolsters: why? I've seen a lot of references to bolsters in whip-making... but I haven't found anything that adequately describes its function and benefits. I would love to see a video about bolsters with your level of detail.

Intro was priceless. How hard was it for you to record that loose wide open back with those gaping holes? Looked like you were in a 4 plait on the thickest part of the whip.

I don’t have that uneven back problem, but the pieces of strand are longer on the back than on the front (the pieces that appear before going under another strand). Why is that and how do I fix it?

Nick my problem isn't the top/bottom differences as much. My issue is when I go to the transition from my belly of the thong to nothing when finishing the overlay, the end of the belly is good on some I normally have 4 to 6 overlay strands when I get to the end of the belly, I'm not sure what I am not doing correctly, but for some reason I am not able to always close in the end where the thing has come a bit loose or the belly end pokes it's way through a portion of the overlay and it's driving me NUTS. I am just doing bullwhips for now, I've made a copy of your mini pocket bullwhip and it turned out perfect. If you or someone can help that would save me a lot of greif. I'll be going through your other videos to see what I'm not doing right.
