Whip Making Tips - 3 Likely Reasons Your Heel Knots Are Slipping Off

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video, we'll do a little reminiscing as we dig through the "whip graveyard". Then, we'll sit down and discuss three of the most likely reasons why heel knots will sometimes slide off of the foundation.

Very nice video. I have made a few such knots, but there is always nuance to be picked up.

Nick, my my name is Dale, I'm retired, HVAC tech,18 years. Replace my hip in 2010. Anyway, I've been looking for a new hobby lately and found your videos on bullwhips. I now have a new found interest and am absolutely in love with whip making. Just wanted to let you know that your tutorials are awesome, your professional and very good, i think the best at teaching beginners like me this trade. Will keep in touch and will encourage others to watch your videos. Can you make a video on leather plating 16....20.....24 plating? PLEASE! Thanks again.

Nick... love your videos -- they have been very helpful to me when making my own whips. I would be interested in seeing a video of you describing what has worked and not worked for you over the years; e.g., the kinds of tape, the number of BB's, the kinds/sizes of paracord, etc...

I haven't tried my hand at making my first whip (yet), but I am extremely interested in learning to braid handle covers for the martial arts weapons which I make. Heel knots look like they're only a little harder than they seem, but in reality there's a TON of practice required to get a symmetrical cloth pommel. It's surely a greater challenge than I anticipated, but I'm sure I'll get it down eventually. Learning to avoid adhesive-on-wood has got to be the biggest part of the challenge for me - you weavers have a lot of hidden tricks.

Hey Nick if I can make a suggestion magnetic tape is a great material for making heel knot foundations. Most whips are thong heavy and I found that adding a little bit of weight to the heel, levels out the whips weight.

I have seen some makers that tie off the two ending strands of the turk's head knot into a tidy little bow at the end, (usually a figure 8 flat knot) melting it slightly so it won't unravel, I wonder why you don't practice this? Any thoughts?
