Why Does Hollywood Hate Henry Cavill?

Ever wonder why Henry Cavilll, despite being a charming, beautiful and polite stud muffin isn’t the mega-star he should be? Ever think he deserves more? Well, I bloody do! Feel free to listen to my well-articulated rant about how our literal Superman is getting the rough end of the stick from modern Hollywood, and how he would’ve flourished in the 1960s… As always, bring your salt shaker.

What I like about Henry is that he's not on board with Hollywood's strategy of always blaming the fans for when Hollywood diverges from source material, the franchise's main themes, or even something as simple as what the fans want and then blames the "toxic" fans when reviews are bad.

Honestly, this whole "he treated us badly because we're women!!!" thing is embarrassing. He (probably) didn't treat you with the utmost respect because you were doing a shit job. And Lauren 100% did a shit job on the Witcher. As a woman I've had instances when I was disrespected by misogynists, it sucked ass, but I still don't want to go to another extreme and to be praised just for having a vagina. I want people to recognise my skills and abilities and respect me for what I've achieved. If I'm botching something, I want people to tell me so honestly, without making it all about my gender. This is how strong women go through their lives.

Totally agree. You know, people like you are a pleasure to work with regardless of what's between your legs. No weirdness, no wondering where you stand with someone, no BS. You can just get on with the job and do it well. I once knew this woman who was manager at a crematorium. When she first started back around the '90s, as you'd imagine, she was the only woman in the whole department for the county. She didn't make a big deal about it, just came in every day and got it done, but she didn't deny her femininity either. I could tell she genuinely had the respect of every blue-collar technician (so, the traditional man's man) under her when I was working the office right by them. It's like you say about how strong women do it. That's what real equality looks like. All you need is basic work ethic, honesty, and mutual respect. Of course, even if it's that simple, doesn't mean it's easy. To be fair, working somewhere like a crematorium and dealing with death on a daily basis kinda forces you to face reality... Hollywood, not so much. They seem to keep living in fantasy even when the cameras stop rolling. Anyway, yeah, props for not letting a few jerk-offs get the better of you and reacting by going too far the other way. Keep fighting the good fight and all that.

Jumping in with the HH is a fool's errand. It is too big of a story. There are something like 50 books written (some great some not so much) on the subject so far and the story still isnt over. A better start for folks new to the IP would be Caiphus Cain. For a step into the actual horror that is the setting, perhaps Eisenhart.

  • @igooog

@@StumpyDaPaladin Most of those are frankly unnecessary to understand the story. A series on HH that focuses on Horus and Sanguinius with their respective interactions throughout the heresy would trim out a lot of the fat and be far more coherent. Dark Imperium could also be a decent topic but I feel it needs a bit too much understanding of established lore to jump into blind. ADB's Night Lords series might work too? Septimus/Octavia interactions could be a good vehicle for explaining necessary context.

I dont hate the writers for going their own way with the Witcher as much as i hate how much the show runners decided to hire so many who disagree with their vision. The show runner wanted to make a bland boring fantasy show (witch the Witcher is a parody of lol), and so many involved wanted to make a faithful adaptation. If you look at the staff, and especially the staff turnaround, you see many who have a history of making great fantasy show, but they left as soon as they came, and in the end you ended up with drama writers. The Witcher was a shitshow from start to finish. Also, i might add that they didnt have an intimacy coordinator on set until late season 2, witch is why the two leads looked so awkward in the hanky panky scenes.

Henry doesn't need Hollywood if they even do hate him. He's too good to star in any Hollywood movies. Gunn tossed him out of the Superman role and didn't let him finish the rest of the Justice League sequels in the more affordable version, but in Snyder's vision. He could've kept all the original former Justice League characters to finish the Justice League sequels in a cheaper/ affordable way and then possibly release the Ayer Cut in realistic animation.

Though part of why is they actually hired good writers for those and James S A Corey(the pen name of the authors for The Expanse) actually took an active role in helping make the show version of The Expanse

When it comes to forms of masculinity (or femininity) I am for evolving, not cancelling. Cancelling is often counterproductive and creates a lot of mess. I enjoy many different kinds of male characters (masculine superheroes, stringy nerds, old withered loners, ...). What I have a big problem with is the portrayal of many different types of female characters, that aren't toxic and badly written. I'd like to see more partnership and less arm wrestling about who is stronger or more powerful. And maybe It's naive but I believe in the natural evolution of tropes and character types in fiction. (sorry for butchering english language)

Wikipedia is often misunderstood. People have been basically conned into thinking it's inaccurate. Do you know how difficult it is for things to be approved? the rigorous checking? if you get a fact wrong - say, the length of a ship - by even a few centimetres they'll put your account on review. Plus - and this is more critical - they cite literally everything with a source.

What is funny, is most people I saw online did not like it when Cavill was announced. But then changed their tune upon seeing him in the role. Proving if you deliver something decent, people will accept it for the the most part. And of all the problems people have with the show, he is not one of them.

Like what Henry Cavill said about how he doesn't think fans being honest, I don't think Zack Snyder's Justice League is polarizing at all. Sure it may have it's moments of explaining a lot and not showing much of what it's explaining, but it at least has good competent writing and quality. To traditional comic book fans that admire campiness over quality it could come across as polarizing. But to me that is Justice League 2017.

IDK how they fucked up The Witcher so badly. The first season was actually fairly faithful and the changes made were sometimes a little head-scratch-inducing, but still mostly within the realm of acceptability (except changing Dandelion into fucking Jaskier. WHY!?). I remember people complaining about how it was out of chrinilogical order and confusing, but that's just how the first "book" was (a collection of short stories that were all loosely connected but also meant to be stand alone tales) Then the second season happened. What the fuck. The second season is just openly fucking insulting the fans of the books and games. They didn't adapt the existing story, they didn't write a new story that slots in between existing canon, both of which are acceptable ways to handle this kind of adaptation. Instead they intentionally misled the audience into thinking that we were getting the adaptation of the existing story we wanted, and then went "lol fuck you for believing us, idiots" and started executing important characters and laughing at us for being upset that they were brought on screen just long enough for us to be fooled into thinking they were being brought into the story and for it to sting when they pulled that rug out from under us.

I believe it has been shown that *email* read out the woman on the podcast was a fake. She made it up. I believe she did an about turn and had to reputiate everything when Mr Cavill talked about getting his lawyers onto her for slander. Great vid though. This represents everything a certain Amazon show did to Tolkien's male characters. Elendil, instead of being a great nobleman and the leader of The Faithful was a "petty Lord" who got easily smacked down by the female characters. Not that he needed much smacking down because he hardly ever stood up for himself anyway. Just stood around and did what he was told for the most part.

Tom Holland's Spider Man is closer to the comic books Spiderman... His uncle dies very early on, and Peter is very much influenced by Gwen, MJ and his Aunt. Some of Spidey's best friends are Daredevil and Wolverine - men with complicated relationships with male role models and masculinity in general. Comic book characters like Spider Man and Batman included feminist ideas as far back as the 60s - I think there was a resurge in toxic male heroes throughout the 90s - characters like The Punisher, DeadPool, Cable, etc. who kind of ruined great female comic characters like Storm, Rogue, Jean and Rachel (Phoenix), and ruined sensitive male heroes like Nightcrawler, Spider Man Havok and Colossus. I am a huge fan of Matt Reeve's The Batman because he is not an overpowered overconfident superhero, but the flawed self-doubting Batman I grew up with throughout the 70s and 80s before Frank Miller made him a serial killer.

He's the man they all feel entitled to, but will never get, because they're delusional and overrate themselves. And those are accurate points about these typical leading men in film now, they're all Timothy Chalamet types, safe, innocuous, and definitely not capable of playing Superman.
