    I went backwards to 2 from 3. I absolutely hated it. 3 was hard in way that still allowed it to be accessible. Specific things were hard for the sake of rewarding you for perseverance. 2 was hard for the sake of being obtuse. It was overly difficult for the fuck of it. Honestly I found it inaccessible. The timing was whack, the hit boxes were whack, the graphics were super whack, it just wasn’t as good as 3. 3 is still my favorite.

    @malamanalopa2786 i said the same thing until i got a little further into dark souls 2 and then realized why everyone says it's an ass game, all the bosses are the easiest I've ever fought, but the bosses aren't the problem, it's the MASSIVE areas and the fact that durability is WAY less than in any other dark souls and it gets reset by the bonfire, meaning in tougher areas you HAVE to kill the enemies so much that they stop spawning(12 or so times) in order to progress.

    The main thing that separates DS2 from the other Souls games is the pace you're intended to keep. Dark Souls 2 is meant to be taken s l o w l y. Once you slow down, and give in to the experience, it's one of the most rewarding games ever made. For the most part, the game's "zones" are very open, I think that's intentional to the play style in giving you time to plan and plot your approach The droning music, the pace of the NPCs speech , and even the representation in Vendricks trudging march, the game is saying a lot without saying anything. "Hopeful apathy" might be close to the feeling The depth of this game is incredible. (I'm probably preaching to the choir here, but hopefully someone that's on the fence about DS2 might get inspired to give it another shot)

    Idk mate, playing through it again the zones seem pretty short once I'm only going through them to get to the bosses (I'm playing a caveman, so only clubs and club-likes and my naked bum and kutzpah). The rotten especially, if you know where you're going you can rush it for less.than 5 minutes. I partly blame it on the fact that I promised myself that I will be streaming my favorite game after every milestone, so...yeah.

  • @Humblemumble7

    @Humblemumble7

    Жыл бұрын

    @@chukyuniqul Yeah, I can pretty much agree with that, the zones are indeed short... Although I was mainly talking about the zones being very open, as in the opposite of cramped and claustrophobic. And you have the room and space to plot out your attacks, because for the most part, you can see it coming.. Like the spiders on the ceilings of Tseldora, or the No Man's Warf, you get these vast open areas in DS2 like no other in the series. Honestly, DS2 is an absolute banger, and the beginning is way less bad than it sounds. You're supposed to just walk past the beginning enemies, which normally ignore you anyway. Plus the hit you're supposed to reach is like 10 meters away. Also, the half health thing can be annoying when you start the game, but you get your full health and your equipment once you reach the hut. For me, the health was really only ever an issue for the forest of giants, since once I get to Heide's Tower, I just pick up the ring that halves the effect and then just play with 3/4 of my health through the entirety of the game, without being bothered by it.

    @@fozzythasalesman6125 Every time you die, you lose a bit of your max health. Luckily, it does stop declining at half your max health, but that still makes it incredibly easy to die way too quickly. So, you can use a human effigy to restore your max health to full, kind of like an ember in DS3, but you can always see how much you've lost/ to gain when using an effigy. Naturally, half health isn't great, nor is having to rely on limited consumables to remedy it, which is why I'm very fond of a ring you can find at the beginning of the game, which limits the health reduction to 3/4 of your max health, which isn't too bad. So I just always have the ring equipped and completely ignore the health reduction and human effigies.

  • @fozzythasalesman6125

    @@lucas_lipp yo, wtttf? That's a crazy mechanic... so are you saying that using the Effigy fully resets you to max health, so each death after that only lowers your max health incrementally again? • @lucas_lipp

    @lucas_lipp

    Жыл бұрын

    @@fozzythasalesman6125 Every death is a loss of like 5%, I think. So when you use an effigy, your health resets and it takes like 10 deaths to be back at half health. Effigies are fairly common, I think I had like 40+ lying around in my inventory when I beat the game, and I didn't even do the dlc or a lot of optional bosses. So I'd they're common enough, but not so common that you can just spam them. But really, it sounds much worse than it actually is, especially if you equip the ring.

    @@lucas_lipp oh okay word, that doesn't sound so bad. Still, sounds like kind of a pointless and annoying mechanic, I think the Souls system and just having to run back to where you died is plenty to give weight/value to dying imo

  • @Battleguild

    @@vini5095 The grab attacks are also horrendous in the other games, the only issue with DS2's grab boxes is that it's easier to stand inside the hitbox than the other games, since grabber is often idle before the grab attack. If you're also including the "yoink" effect with DS2's grabs, that's not a hitbox or i-frame issue. DS2 for whatever reason, doesn't cut off animations when a grab is registered at the moment of impact, instead it lets whatever current animation is going before proceeding to the grab animation. This is what causes the weird grab relocating effect that the other games don't have. Rami's attacks can be consistently dodged, even with low I-frames. I did his fight with a level 1 character. Technically there are two stats that affect I-frames, the second which is Attunement, but has smaller benefits towards it per level.

    @@Professionalidiot504 making a sequel is no excuse to constantly revisit old locations. And just cus there are improvements, doesn‘t excuse the set backs and making old mistakes again. Remember lost izalith? Remember anor londo? Remember the swamp? Remember artorias? And the list goes on and on and on. Where is the originality? It‘s just too much reused stuff that‘s been used for member berries. Saying "skill issue" in response to criticism just makes it fall on deaf ears. I played the heck out ds3 and never felt the satisfaction I got from ds2 simply because a lot of it‘s heart was missing. Barely any replayability beyond upgraded versions of rings, lackluster covenants and multiplayer, making the magic system either weak or boring to play. The return to the ds1 character set, removal of the power stance, blocking with an offhand weapon-(just why??), incentivizing roll spam by making rolls consume almost no stamina. Yeah the combat is faster but that doesn‘t make it better, there is little strategic play in pvp beyond using cs r1‘s, you are barely able to punish most moves because the recovery is made faster due to faster combat speed. All these things could have been avoided had the game taken another year in the oven or taken a different approach. Ds2 may not have been to your liking but at least it told it‘s own story with new philosophical implications, aldia ftw. Meanwhile ds3 endings are just the exact same as in the first game just with a new paint job. I love the dlc‘s simply because they explore something new, while being in the same universe. Why did we have to wait for dlc to see the ringed city if we could have explored a more fleshed out version in the base game?? I love gael‘s story to hell and back, the dlc redeems the game for me ever so slightly. And I know that ds2 would not be the same without it‘s dlc‘s either but I hated how ds3 replaced ds2 while having so many avoidable problems. Hell, I dropped ds3 for elden ring, and even elden ring has a F-ton of problems even though it‘s proclaimed as "Ds2-part 2". Fast combat, but it feels like we are still in ds3 while fighting enemys from bloodborne. Also no meaningfull covenants whatsoever, they didn‘t even try.

    The main reason people hate Dark Souls 2 is that it lacks some of the polish the other games. That's because it was made on a shorter time frame with a less experienced director, and also because the first director was fired because he wanted to do something completely different than Dark Souls. They had to patch together what they had and then try to make it work as well as they could. But putting the Miyazaki stans aside, the game is unique and interesting and has more characters that you will slowly get attached to as Majula's population grows. The one thing it really lacks is Patches.
