For me, DeS: The gimmick fights. There are too many of them. DS1: The covenants. Specifically speaking, you can't use the spells you gain unless you are within the covenant itself. This is worsened by the fact that at least 3 I can remember are all miracles and could all be used on a single build. DS2: Fuck me choosing just one is impossible so I'll just list a bunch. Adaptability, the enemy placements, the general "fuck you" attitude the game has towards the player, power standing being complete trash 99% of the time, being able to be invaded even after you've killed the area boss, all three dlcs having the same exact default knight type of enemy but just reskinned and with a different flavor of damage, the iron passage. BB: The fact that the game is locked the the PS4. I don't even want a remaster, I just want it ported to other consoles. DS3: It's insane linearity. There's no alternate paths unless you wanna do dlc early which is just asking to suffer. S: It's not a Soulsborne game. People need to stop treating it like one just because it shares basic things with the Soulsborne series. That's more just Fromsoft dna. ER: The massive jump in difficulty post Leyndell. Anything from the Mountaintops onwards will just delete your health unless you already have 60 vigor or really heavy armor.

As much as I like Nameless King himself I really don’t like how you’re forced to go through phase 1 all over again just to get a tiny bit of practice on phase 2. Like I think it’s really similar to Elden Beast and Radagon, like they’re both decently good fights, but they are NOT the same bosses, in the slightest and if you want to fight Elden beast, you’re gonna have to spend the next 6 minutes wailing on Radagon just to do that again every time you die.

If you are not using guides and doing it blindly, you're rarely run through reskinned bosses, will probably miss a couple of side quests/NPCs and explore a few dungeons on first playthrough. then on your next playthrough, you go through another path you never explored. Wiki guides ruin the sense of discovery and exploration. It's on you. not on the game.

Tbh High Wall of Lothric is a good contender for the worst area (maybe even the worst tutorial area in all of Souls games), it was the reason why I dropped DS3 the first time I played it. I understand that all the knights and pus of man were placed there to teach you to hit the legs when you encounter an enemy that's too tough for you right now, but there's definitely too many of them and I'd say that their patterns are still annoying even later in the game when you need to go to Dancer and Lothric Castle. Not to mention that the area itself can be quite convoluted too. Undead Settlement does a much better job at being a tutorial area. It's much more simple and straightforward, the enemies can be annoying, but as long as you know not to throw yourself right in the middle of them and remember which button is for rolling, you'll be fine.

in the dark souls 3 poison swamp, there is actually a path you can follow that causes you to not have to go through the deep waters and also where there won't be any of the giants following you. Those giants are there to punish players going astray.

But really the whole point of bloodborne and souls games are to make you find out how to control the game since that’s how people in medieval times had to find out what to do.

Once you actually figure out how to fight him (or look it up like I did) by going for his head exclusively, he gets a lot more fun. He’s actually super well designed. He does a lot of damage and has a lot of health, but it’s manageable. (Nothing compared to Elden Ring’s late game lol)

My biggest problem with the series as a whole is the juxtaposition of frustration with difficulty. Things like bossruns are literally only in the game to cause you to die because you don’t want to waste all that time making it back to a boss. You didn’t die because of difficulty, you didn’t die because you made a mistake with timing, you died because you wanted to get back to the boss as quick as possible, and you got frustrated, feeling like you were wasting your time. You lost your runes because you’ve died 20 times to this guy and you just wanted to get back in. But now you have to wait 5 minutes to do so, and you essentially wiped the last however long or progress. Things like that are what, for a newcomer to the series, begin to make the games feel cheap.
