Good video but I feel some important points were missed. B2B is xtina’s most critically acclaimed album & era. Ain’t no other man won a grammy. She also did many legendary collaborations & covers during this era (eg it’s a man’s world, a song for you, i love you porgy etc). The B2B tour was a huge success as it was the second highest grossing tour of 2007 only behind Justin. Also, all xtina fans know that Bionic was a masterpiece that was sabotaged by Perez, Gaga, and the media pushing false narratives about her. This wasn’t helped by the fact that the rollout for Bionic was delayed by over a year (it was supposed to be called Light & Darkness and released in 2009) and that the promo rollout was very short and messy because she was promoting Burlesque and dealing with personal struggles (divorce) at the same time. The 4 year gap between B2B and bionic didn’t help as the sound of pop drastically shifted between 2008-2010. I feel that Bionic is where her career actually took a nosedive. Nowadays Xtina is a considered a legend and veteran so she can really do as she pleases and doesn’t need to chase charts.

Yeah I think he might be a little bias, because Back to Basics came out past his music buying years. I was a teenager during Back to Basics it was an amazing era. Stripped was good. But I was a little salty about the Pink Missunderstood/Linda Perry situation and Beef. Plus I was 10 when it came out. So that was a little ahead of my years. I don't care anymore now. I love both albums nowadays. LoL.HAHA 😂

I think her peak is between Stripped and Back to Basics. Sure, Stripped sold more, but Back to Basics was a double album sold at double the price. It offered her biggest and most international tour yet, and all 3 singles were international hits. HOWEVER, the cultural impact of Stripped far outdoes Back to Basics’ so it’s really depending on what metrics you decide to look at and measure.

'Back to Basics' did well. 'Ain't No Other Man', 'Candyman' and, in Europe, 'Hurt' performed well. However, after the backlash against 'Bionic' and the interference from her label, her sales and chart success definitely declined in a major way. Yet, with 'Liberation' and 'Aguilera' she seems much more involved artistically and even reinspired. I think Christina's days of commercial success are over or at the very least will be limited to collaborations such as her hit singles 'Moves Like Jagger', 'Feel This Moment' and 'Say Something'. However, she will continue to put out great music and showcase her incredible voice. As a fan that's all I ask for.

I enjoyed hearing the stories in the video. I think one point missed that Xtina has been vocal about recently is she said she didn’t feel like she was in a position to tour after she had her second child. She was more concerned with being present for her children, which is mostly why she took the gig on The Voice. ❤ Just food for thought as to why her albums also may have not been pushed as much by her label.

Her vocals on Stripped is also the best she ever sounded. Great songs married to great vocals where she didnt oversing. Fighter, Beautiful etc. She sounded so good, and the songs were all excellent. So yes, the ppl that picked the final setlist for Stripped created a no filler album. Even after the huge controversy of Dirrty, the album still sold well cause of great single choices. It's her magnum opus. By comparison Lotus and Bionic had many songs I often skipped. She became too camp. And I am gay, but you could sense she was catering for gays and not average ppl. Love her

Christina has no limit and she doesn’t care about commercial success like most do. So I disagree about Stripped being her “peak”. It was an era that started her artistic freedom of course and so iconic but she has continued to be successful. She doesn’t need a big comeback because she already has done so much. It’s more important for her to do what she wants. Also with a gift and talent like Christina why stick to just a certain sound. She’s done pop, r&b, soul, ballads, dance music, even country stuff and let’s not forget her Spanish music. Maybe more people should accept that she is not chasing anything in terms of sales and such. She has cemented her place as a legendary artist.

I loved it so much that I bought it(cd, simple times😂). I was born in ‘94… I heard Beautiful but I was listening to Back To Basics first, then I heard the whole album Stripped. I like her, later other projects, it’s a shame that none of her albums/singles weren’t really that successful. I loved Not Myself Nothight, You, Your Body, Fall in Line… and more. But she has a family and looks very happy, I just watched her commenting on some of her music vidos … idk, is she doing some project/album…? There's no other artist that made such a jump from one style of sound to another - from one album to the next, in such a short amount of time. She also took her time between albums, and didn't try to pump out songs/albums every year or two, just to remain popular. She remained true to herself. When it came to the album 'Bionic', I think it was a mismatch between her personal life and the public image portrayed at the time. She was going through a divorce and personal struggles, while portraying an overconfident persona on the album. The ballads on the album told the true story, but the album was ruined by the first single and the bad press that followed. No other modern artist made so many honest songs & wonderful ballads on each album, and payed so little attention to the 'hit factor' of the album. She chose to live life instead of chasing hits. I respect her for that.

  • @DodaGarcia

I am definitely of the mind that Christina has that tendency to be musically ahead of her time, which is an admirable trait in an artist but can (obviously) be a bad thing if it continuously results in you not being as commercially successful as you could. We even have proof of this because Meghan Trainor had massive hits 8 years after Back to Basics with the same sound, probably because at that point the public was ready for that particular brand of nostalgia (and then the sound became a bane for her as well, but that's a different conversation about restrictive branding). That's the kind of problem that an experienced A&R executive such as Ron Fair can help an artist avoid - they usually have a much better sense of the cultural zeitgeist than the artist, who often stays mostly in their own head.

Not to mention she had not one but 2 huge opening acts for that tour ( Pussy Cat dolls and Danity Kane)The album sales were damaged because a lot of people weren’t buying albums as much anymore as music was accessed through youtube and other sites for free. That should be taken into big consideration. She won many accolades for B2B and her voice was unmatched during this era. The Grammys even chose Christina over Beyonce and Mariah for the James Brown tribute. B2B may not have had the same trailblazing fire that Stripped had, but to say her career was peaked at Stripped is almost offensive. B2B was major!

I really don’t think she is interested in having that sort of comeback. Of course I’m sure she’d be happy if her music resonated that way but regardless of the music she makes, if she really wanted to have the proper comeback, we’d be seeing so many appearances and performances that match the type of promotion that those who have those chart-topping songs and albums have. We did get a lot more visuals and singles with the Spanish project but I think whatever she puts out will always be on her own accord and the priorities to be on top of the her game as a pop artist have dissipated since the release cycle of Lotus in 2012. She has gotten back to touring though which she seems to love doing so at least she’s still making music she’s passionate about and getting the chance to perform it the way she wants to and still connect to those who enjoy it.

This more or less the formula that EVERY relevant female in pop follows if they seek critical acclaim and produce a personal work! Ask Pink! Also, most of her peers are not getting ALL their flowers with the exception of Beyonce. Times have really changed and it's VERY hard for a legacy act to break through -even though I agree her projects have fallen short (Expectations, and in the case of Lotus, the quality of the material) I often look at Madonna (I LOVED your videos on her) and think that if even her has a hard time breaking through... @@Epuertasr thanks for your kind words about my Madonna videos. Yes it would be incredibly hard for Christina to get back to the forefront of music now, the industry has changed too much. But I sometimes think Christina should be the biggest recording artist on the planet because she is arguably the best vocalist of the last 20 years - yes people might prefer other people's 'tones' but technically I can't think of anyone who has emerged since 2000 who can sing like that. I think people really want to hear her 'sing' again but she needs to make the right record. But as you say, it might be too difficult now. I think Ron Fair knew how to pick the songs and most importantly the hits. You can have everything else in place, but if there aren't hits, it won't work. That's why I placed such importance on his role in the videos.
