When I actually paid money for dating apps, I got zero matches (and the selection was "unfortunate" ).. I should just go and sit alone in the bar, roll up a $20 bill and light it on fire, take a shot, and then go home. Aaaand scene!

I am dipping my toe back in the dating pool after a breakup. I signed up for eHarmony and was horrified, utterly horrified at my matches. (I am late 40s and in a metro area with a lot of men). I saw less than a handful of attractive men. Looks aren’t at the top of my priority list, but 95% were seriously unkept and scary. Think mountain man who hasn’t seen a comb or beard clippers in ages. What are these men thinking?! I promptly cancelled my membership and will be moving to another platform. I find that different platforms work better in different cities. Best wishes ladies!

I'm with you. I've been dumped here in the u.k and I dabbled in several apps. In the end I was putting up pictures of me in deep sea diving helmets ( really, it was me, I'm a presenter and wore one for a TV show!) just so I could 'scare off' the serial dating app older women and attract someone with a bit of creativity and spark whod understand me. I'm a cool 53, slim and lean. With the best will in the world I don't want Kimberley, 58 from Brentford.

Yea... I’ve been trying online dating, and I tried it a few years ago during a break up to make up situation. I paid for match.com. It was literally the worst experience of dating in my life. I can’t imagine paying again for more hookup pleas from wealthier men. Also, I tried match for 12 months, and still nada but hookup pleas. I took it pretty seriously. Paying doesn’t make it better from my personal experience. At least with free you aren’t paying to be asked for a hookup. Guys don’t often talk to curvier (let’s be honest, larger) girls in public. It’s a very rare occurance in my world, and the world of my larger friends. Maybe you should do a video for the large and lovely seeker. What should we do? Where should we go? There are tons of us out there, and I don’t know of many of my large and lovelies having much luck other than online, and usually it’s the hookup requests after dinner luck.

  • @datingcoachryanpatrick

Thanks for sharing this Ashley! It was interesting when you're discussing the timing of trying Match post break-up. What were you looking for at the time online? I wasn't sure if the "make up" part was you were hoping to reconnect with your ex in the process? I was curious about your mindset at the time, because if you had just gotten out of a relationship, do you feel maybe the next guy you met could have been a potential rebound? Again, I don't know the specifics of your situation or if you mentioned anything in your online profile about just getting out of something, but wondering if men were getting the vibe that you were just looking to have fun since you just got out of a relationship. Just kind of spit-balling with you here. Hope you don't mind 😉 And noted on the video suggestion for "larger friends" as you say! I do have some specific thoughts on that and how the approach might be tweaked and relevant considerations... let me mark it on the list!

  • @Dependencycourtsellschildren

    @Dependencycourtsellschildren

    4 жыл бұрын

Totally okay Ryan. I personally don’t do rebounds, though I’d never judge someone that does. I’m kinda known for being a goodie two shoes with men. I’m never seen with anyone, I don’t have a new boyfriend very often, when I get one it lasts forever, my number is the lowest of my friends, despite age (some older, some younger). I had broken up with my child’s father, well actually he broke up with me, for the second time. This was pre kiddo. I wasn’t really sure what I was looking for. I waited about three months before joining, to not be in that blues mindset. I had of course sat and watched possibly 1000 videos, read books, heck I even went to a dating seminar. I thought I was a dating expert, 😂😂😂. So I figured if something good happened, awesome. If I just got to practice all my new techniques, awesome. I was just open to a new experience, as the last time I had online dated MySpace was a thing. I wrote the profile I had been basically told an outline for. I took the kinds of pictures you were told to take to attract options. Yet all I got were wealthy guys who wanted hookups. I am always honest about being larger, but it seems like that’s the hookup red flag. It’s very normal in big girl world from the stories my friends and I tell each other. At that time I did my year, left match, and my kid’s father came back about six months later. He’s gone again (surprise) and has been for quite some time. Now I’ve tried a bunch of apps, as I’ve been single for about two years. I have yet to find bumble much of a meeting spot. I’ve had two dates from it, and guess what they wanted (even now)? OKC, same thing. Really, you name the app, it’s all the same. Guys don’t often approach larger women, and so you’re kinda stuck with apps, but honestly it’s seemingly a hookup thing for us larger ladies. I couldn’t imagine paying for what I already don’t want... again. If you did that video, you’d get a large watch count. I keep on saying anyone who narrows into that market has found a goldmine. I hear the statistic is 44% of men are attracted to larger women, but all the larger women I know have a similar story to mine when it comes to dating.

@@Dependencycourtsellschildren I know this comment is older, but I just wanted to say that there are a few dating sites dedicated to plus sized people, but they may as well change the names to 'Men who want to hook-up with plus-size women' because it's all about sex on those sites. I personally didn't get a lot of men wanting to hook-up with me on the regular dating sites, though; but then again, I was already in my 40's when I was on those sites. I also wanted to note that both my niece and my daughter's best friend met their husbands online (both plus-sized), but I think the big factor there may have been that they were in their 20's and early 30's and their husbands were also large men themselves. Both men and women will be larger themselves but veto dating people who fit that category, and that can limit you to people who are interested in just hook-ups, unfortunately. Not always, but quite often.

Hey Vicki! Question: Ideally, where would you want to meet them? If they could just step into your world and make it easier for you, what does that location or place look like? Essentially, where would they find you? Sure, you're a little older now. But if it comes down to just getting yourself in front of men, surely you can triangulate where you'd like to capture their attention and greet them with a smile when they arrive, no? Farmer's markets, open mics, trivia nights, dinner parties, where do you want to be? 🙂

I have tried eharmony several times over the years and gotten very few matches and the ones I matched with were poor quality. I have girlfriends that tried it and had the exact same experience. My theory is most men aren’t inclined to try eharmony so for women the matches are fewer. I have met much better quality men on Tinder believe it or not you just need to filter and be a bit of a challenge. Men just looking for sex won’t be up for that challenge.

Thanks for letting us know of your experience Mari 🙂 I'm curious, do you feel there wasn't as large of a pool of men due to where you were living? Plenty of guys I know (who are now in their 30's) moved from Tinder-type apps to paid sites including eHarmony because they're ready to settle down and find wives now, so it's an interesting theory you have and may be true in regions other than the U.S. But I feel if I see the trend here within my circle, surely it must be happening in other western countries/regions. The personality matching test has gotten, much, much better since I used the platform 10 years ago.

Tried eharmony in the past (quite a few years ago, but I was also younger then, lol) and found that if you're older than early 30's, and particularly if you're a plus-sized woman, you may as well forget it. I actually had better luck as a plus-sized woman on a few other sites. My theory is that the men felt like since they were paying so much they deserved to get the best match they could, and that wasn't a larger woman in their minds; or perhaps it was also because they were looking to get married, and in both cases, they felt they could do better than a plus-sized woman. Just my opinion based on my experience from being on multiple sites at that time.

I just joined eharmony this weekend and I too had a previous account a few years back. With that said I am going into this with an open mind based on Ryan’s input and the fact I know people who have met and married on this site. Not so much with other dating sites. The things that I noticed between before and now include; The questionnaire was more in depth and I think they asked better questions I like the score which gives me a better indication of a higher quality match The profile page - I think this helps people viewing my page a good indication of who I am And my preferences - I’ve been using this to ensure that potential matches have the same or similar answers to mine If I find out that I’m looking at this process through rose colored glasses I’ll let you know. But for now I’m going to keep an open mind because honestly I’m not sure what other options there are for on-line websites that someone can meet someone for a long-term relationship.

Thank you for these tips and for the discount. I personally have stuck with the free profiles because when I began online dating I paid for match.com and I also had tried eharmony for six months. Yes, the men were more serious about their interest and communication as a general rule, but I was still running into requests and even expectations of hookups. That is not what I signed up for, nor do I want, and I was quite clear about that on my profile. But as you said, they've improved the algorithm on eharmony so maybe it's better now.

Hey Kristi! Yes, after diving in it's improved significantly. I was answering more than several super-nuanced questions. Obviously, since I'm married and my dummy account was just a test, I can't speak specifically about how possible dates with my matches would have gone, but I imagine my answers screened out a good amount of women who prefer sleeping on the same side of the bed as me! LOL, well hopefully 😄 I feel requests for hookups will always be there (and are an excellent screener...NEXT!) just because men get desperate and see what they can get away with if they aren't seeing immediate results. It's also a sign that they aren't really into you. I wouldn't think much of it 🙂

You have to get him emotionally invested first. So basically after you guys have been dating for a while, but before you're going to have sex. Ask him in a time and place where sex won't easily happen. Tell him it's really important to you and make sure he knows that you won't move forward without it. This has always worked for me. I have offered to get tested together and that seems to help too.

I think it depends how you set up your profile, yes, the way you talk to guys, the way you come across. OKCupid is one of the best dating apps out there I personally recommend because they have matching %. I have met quality guys there and currently dating a guy that is compatible with my lifestyle and beliefs. I love your channel but somethings you say is like playing games and it doesnt let the relationship happen organically. Testing guys is like having trusting issues which then we are the problem and not them. I dunno, there is still a lot to say in the dating scene.

Are you sponsored by eharmony? Because I have tried all sorts of dating apps, paying and free and out of all of them eharmony had the poorest selection and the least amount of matches. It was ridiculous. My options were either miiiiiiles away, complete no nos on the job/lifestyle front or muuuuch older. I was actually listening to your advice until you mentioned this company.

In the Bay area. Maybe you should check one of your female clients profiles on eharmony and compare the matches they get on other platforms. The different is BIG. I even paid for the year subscription , only used it a month and despite that, the matches were sufficiently unsuitable to make me delete the app forever. I have checked with other female friends and they have had the same experience.

What about dating when you're over 50? My husband has passed, the kids are grown... but most of these dating things are geared for young singles or old stuck in the mud old men. Where are the active men my age? Hard to find... I guess that's why I usually end up with younger friends... but then they couple up and I'm there... still alone... sniff... (ok, i'm not really a downer, but it's hard to find someone who is as active as I am who is close to my age... any suggestions?). Thank you!

Looks like my initial comment to you didn't go through to you... my apologies! Yes, OutTime has the demographics/numbers it sounds like you're looking for, since you'd like to find men more your age. They certainly have the best track record, and the platform also has great functionality to really hone in on exactly what you're looking for. In terms of places to find these men other than online (and church, LOL), I'd say group exercise classes, Meetup groups, trivia/open mic nights, art/cooking classes (seen A LOT of 50+ men here as I'm into both of these things), AirBnb "Experiences" (if you're in a large metropolitan area), just to name a few 😀

Hi Ryan, I hope my comment finds you and I don't think you will respond buuuut just in case some wild chance you do, please read below.. I'm a man looking for another man. I find the psychology of a man's brain is still the same gay or straight. In your videos, you talk a lot about blowing guy's minds using tricks and techniques. Why is there an expectation as men to find someone to blow us away? Even it comes down to a primal level, there's not much common sense to back up this kind of behavior and I personally think it's so stupid and feels inhumane to a degree why we resort to this behavior, but I know this is how we think due to our evolution. I've used several dating apps and the more I use them, the more every man starts to act the same way. In my experience, I sense that they expect me to somehow blow them away - just like you said in other videos. Even when I'm trying to steer the conversation, and I ALWAYS anchor EVERY conversation, I cannot seem to scratch the inner emotional side of a man (and yes I've watched videos where you explore techniques to connect to a man). Guys resort to this cold, aloof, generic, two syllable response. No matter what I do, this is 90% the reaction I get. I've always been a take charge guy and I'm left with choosing all these wishy-washy guys looking to rebound from a bad relationship. Or guys who lost contact with reality and looking for validation. Whatever it may be... I still get that reaction. I don't believe in adopting any façade to attract a man because you can train to attract any kind of man, but in the end if you slip up, or fall back into your natural habits, you will eventually lose him if that's all he was attracted to. I want to be myself, but I feel like even when I adapt techniques to my personality, I cannot attract a man or hold his attention. Our relationships are so heavily involved with technology now and that resulted in a lot of negative behavior. We ended up with ghosting, and it's so much easier to hide behind a screen meaning you are not having to deal with a person face to face. How do you turn a text into a long term relationship in this day and age where it's so easy to ignore another human being? I've had some interactions with guys through text that I got left on read by the second message all the way up to having a one month relationship before getting dumped. This has been a repeated experience for me and I'm still on the lookout to find someone to settle down with who will love me for me. It's gotten so bad, that all it takes to blow me away is for another guy to show the same amount of effort that I give. But all I get is: left on read, "you're ALMOST what I'm looking for", coming to my own conclusions because I have no other choice when a guy ghosts me pretty much telling me that he lost interest, I was a second alternative if the first guy didn't work out, and many more experiences that turned me off of men and not wanting to date for a long time. Guys don't understand what they are doing to another human being when they lead people on, string them along, ending things via phone, text, not saying anything at all and just letting you figure it out. This behavior disgusts me when all I do is put in effort and giving people a chance hoping someone will prove me wrong one day, but that day has not come yet. I'm ashamed to say, I've accepted defeat if that's the best I'm going to get and can't even get guys to commit to a one-time hookup anymore. I can't get guys to commit to texting after two days. I'm starting to feel like I just have to accept it after a while that this is not my time and hope maybe it will pick up again. I've developed a lot of anxiety about guys now. And my experience has always led me to disappointment trying not let it effect my confidence, but my confidence has declined so much I'm already defeated before even trying. This must be what guys can sense about me and I've practiced a lot of self love and doing my own thing, but in the end I still feel very disappointed. Like I said, I don't know if it would be worth developing techniques. I'm still me at the end of the day. Unlovable. Dumped. Ignored. You name it. It's hard to build up that confidence and I've been at a low for a long time feeling like I've just plateaued and now declining. I haven't been able to find a meaningful satisfying relationship for 2 years now because I can't take anybody seriously anymore. It's all mind games now. And people treat it like a joke. I just don't want to be part of that. Sorry this was so long.

I’ve been on match for years and on and off eharmony. I strongly dislike eharmony. The men are not great at all. And the ones that are decent are never online to reply. I’ve had better luck with match. All my ex’s are from match. Sounds funny saying exes but hey, doesn’t always work out. Haha. Talking to a guy now that seems very nice and interested in really meeting up after quarantine. Texts me every morning and night and we talk about 2 times a week. I’d do match over eharmony. You just have to really look for people and weed out the duds

They're free but you can't actually talk to anyone without paying and women only talk to guys that look hot. All the other guys don't even get any attention

After 1 minute of watching this, I had to stop. Your jump-cuts are so distracting, that's all I was paying attention to. Maybe you could try punctuating your sentences with commas and periods rather than cuts and work at stringing two sentences together in one take. If you're feeling dangerous, why not go for broke and do three sentences?
