Dating Scam | Match.com | Eharmony.com and Can't stop them [Does the below sound familiar to you?]

Online dating scams are worse than ever. The topic online dating scam is nearly day to day topic of discussion in our business. Do you have a relationship that isn't unfolding as you'd hoped? Is this person a busy wealthy business professional who travels the world or their high up in the military? Do they send you flowers or to dinner yet you've NEVER met them in person. Do they speak as if they are foreigners Or do they write you how they believe an AMERICAN TALKS? Honey, Baby? Doll? Etc. and to top it all off, did a sorta small event happen to them and they just need a few thousand dollars? Does all of this sound familiar? If so, you ARE ONE LINK TO THE NIGERIAN DATING SCAM.
Do you feel there isn't something right about their pictures? Do the eyes look photoshopped? Do the military uniforms look pressed yet they're wearing the wrong insignias or wrong camouflage all together? Is he or she WAY more attractive than one who would normally talk to you?

Seriously on any dating site money shouldn't even be brought up. If anybody has any issues delete them.

I would think also that if you do have that first incident where the person cancels or the 2nd incident where they ask for a little bit of money, you disappear and do not engage the person again. Don't give them anything to work with and they will move on. Plus what retired or semi-retired person doesn't have multiple sources to get themself out of a jam? Major red flag.

If they ask for $$$$ immediately ban, block, delete! That’s it. Let them take the loss on the “flowers”.

Scammers are getting smarter about altering pictures enough that they don't show up on a reverse image search

Sadly, the reverse image search was dumbed down. Google was so good it was scaring people and they were pressuring google. Sad but true....

I had a woman from Eharmony not show up at the restaurant dinner date. No phone call and she didn’t answer her phone. Next day she tells me her car broke down and she needs a $100 Apple Card. Since she told me she live only 10 minutes away, I offered to deliver the money personally to her. Of course, all she wanted was the Apple Card number haha.

I recently had one of those kinds of assholes try to scam me, they were as stupid as they were amoral. The photos they sent me weren't even the same race as the one on their profile, they me a photo with them wearing makeup, lipstick and a ballroom-worthy dress when they claimed they were just at home cleaning the house and most hilariously of all they asked what time it was in my area when they were claiming they lived only 20 miles away.I toyed with them for a while and pretended to play their game until finally I called their bluff and asked to video chat with them, they claimed their phone couldn't handle it even though they had supposedly been sending me pictures with the same one, when I asked them what type of phone it was that was the last I heard from them and their profile disappeared. Bottom line is REQUIRE meeting them in person before any exchange of personal info like personal email and phone numbers and never give them or except money of any amount until you've actually dated them for a while.

I think this scam has been around for a considerable time. Nonetheless, good info for those who could (fairly easily) fall prey.

Do you know someone who's been caught up in a dating scam? What tipped them off that it was a scam?

My sister got caught up with some guy who friended her on Facebook. She’s elderly and new to the Internet, so I had given her all the wise tips and tricks to avoid scams, but because she’s so vulnerable, even when she was younger, she fell for this guy. His picture immediately sent bad vibes to me, because it looked too professional, which I warned her about before this happened. He was much younger than her and I’m sure if he wanted to have a new family he wouldn’t be picking on somebody in her age range. He started sweet talking right off the bat and told her that he was a widowed man with two small daughters, and he needs a mom to help raise them, and he didn’t care about my sister and his age difference, which was about 20 years. She started falling for the dream of a family and a man. I started getting even more suspicious when she said that he wanted to move here from France with his girls. I told her they were not moving in this house, so she said she was going to look into getting an apartment for them. I reminded her that if he comes over from another country, she is responsible for him for the first 10 years that he’s here, even if the marriage doesn’t work out. I did a reverse picture search using Tin Eye from his Facebook profile picture. It came up as a favorite of scammers and the actual person is an Argentinian actor. I found the actor’s name. reported the situation to WhatsApp, where they had been corresponding once he talked my sister into leaving Facebook, another red flag. They wanted me to send screenshots of their text string. I did. And then I decided to look up his phone number. I found nothing on the phone number, but when I isolated the phone number to an area code, the area code, came up as the Ivory Coast in Africa. I found the talent agency of the Argentinian actor, to whom the picture really belong to. I reported the scam using their clients photo, and they thanked me for that information. My sister, on her own, started to look up more on him and started to become suspicious, but try to hold onto the dream. I showed her that all of the pictures, which included two girls and the scammer in a car , that he sent to her in texts actually came from a married Argentinian actor’s Facebook page. That particular picture was obviously from a movie or TV show because in order to get the angle of the photo, there had to have been a camera placed on the windshield inside the car. There was no indications of anyone holding up a phone to make it look like a selfie, and the three people in the photo were spread out, which is further evidence that it was posed. Fast forward a few years after she ended that relationship, she was playing a word game on Facebook. A guy friended her on the game, which was kind of odd, because there was no way for her to friend other people or communicate with them. She thought that was a bit odd, but pursued this relationship, which apparently was with a guy who was an army veteran working in Yemen on a peace keeping mission. Another sign of a scammer. he came on hot and heavy and lovey-dovey, and she fell for it. He said she was beautiful. She was at least wise enough to ask how he found her picture. This is where it gets kind of creepy because she doesn’t have her picture on her Facebook profile, but does have it somewhere in her files on her Facebook page. In order for him to find it, he would’ve had to do a reverse picture search of her profile picture of a vehicle or scrolled through every person with her first name, until he found the corresponding profile picture, and then looked through her profile to find out selfie that she took. I did a reverse picture search of her profile picture, which did not show up, which leads me to believe that he did use the method of looking up her first name until he found the corresponding picture. She was a bit angry with me at first when I told her it was a scam, but she started to realize it when she read an article I sent her with a list of all of the lines that scammers use. She started looking up his name and phone at least seven fake Facebook profile pictures using this guy’s image and name. A few of them were mixed with people from other countries. This guy was supposedly from Texas. Other suspicious signs were that he would not allow her to call him. I also thought it was a bit odd that if he was any peace keeping mission that he would be allowed to be on Facebook, and wouldn’t that also open him up to scammers if he was real, or infiltration of High security information if someone should hack his phone? Another friend of mine said she was scammed, five different times, and she’s very streetsmart. She also said that she was alerted by Facebook that her picture was being used on a human trafficking site, and they shut that page down, and she had to start a new one. Then someone got a hold of her new page and locked her out of it.

It was Match.com for me. He was too good to be true. I thought I missed the boat until I met BERTO but he kept saying "lets just continue getting to know ourselves and continue living our lives". Eventually we will share phone calls for a while and then we can meet down the line.
