Why All Dogs Are Good Dogs | Alexandra Horowitz | TED

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Canine cognition expert Alexandra Horowitz offers a peek inside the mind of your dog, sharing solutions to common "misbehaviors" that are often simply the result of a pup's attempt to communicate in a world that's very different from their own. Hear about the evolution and psychology behind your dog's actions -- and how to give them a happier, healthier life.

@@cristalumati I completely understand and respect your feelings regarding the use of the term "owner". It's important to be mindful of language that may perpetuate harmful societal norms and inequalities I think One alternative to the term "owner" could be "guardian", which implies a responsibility to care for and protect the animal rather than asserting complete ownership over them. Another option is to simply refer to oneself as the "person who cares for" or "person responsible for" the animal, which emphasizes the relationship and responsibility rather than ownership Ultimately, the most important thing is to prioritize the well-being and dignity of the animal in question and to use language that reflects this perspective

Can highly recommend her book 'inside of a dog'- published in 2010 or so. As a 'seasoned' dog owner, I realise how little I knew about them, despite thinking the contrary. The book made me look at my relationship with dogs in a new light. A big thanks to Alexandra for compiling such a complex topic into layman's terms.

In my old boarding house, the owner used to raised a dog. When he was a puppy, he's so cute. I spent lots of time play with him. So he often came into my room to play, to sleep,... He was quite smart and clever. He often barked when some strangers came into our boarding house. But when he was 1 year and a half year old, he became more aggressive. He often went outside to play and then the neighbors often complained that he bit their kid. I didn't believe and didn't know why. Maybe he was being in the puberty period and often chased the kid while they were playing. He was vaccinated the rabies but everytime he bit a kid, the kid's parent were always worry and make the dog's owner paid the rabies vaccinating for their kid. To prevent him from biting other kids, the owner had to chain him and imprisoned him. I were so sorry for that. He died in a rainy day while trying to catch a mouse in the sewage that was electrified by an electricity leaked wire at his 3 years old.

Good behavior in dogs is essential for a happy and harmonious relationship between dogs and their owners. Some important factors that contribute to good behavior in dogs include proper training, socialization, and consistent reinforcement of positive behavior. Training your dog can help establish clear boundaries and expectations, as well as teach basic commands like "sit," "stay," and "come." Socialization, or exposing your dog to different people, animals, and environments, can help them become comfortable and confident in a variety of situations. Consistent reinforcement of positive behavior is also crucial for maintaining good behavior in dogs. This includes rewarding good behavior with treats or praise, and redirecting or ignoring unwanted behaviors instead of punishing them. It's important to remember that all dogs are individuals and may have unique personalities and temperaments. Some dogs may require more training and socialization than others, and it's important to be patient and understanding as you work with your dog to develop good behavior habits.

No matter the level of intellect, all beings live by the condition of life, for us it’s the “human condition”. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Humane Society of the United States, there are about 4.7 million dog bites every year in the U.S. 60 % of these bites happen to kids (Children ages 5-9 are most at risk) About half of all children will be bitten by a dog before they graduate high school (US). Most bites occur on the face. But yeah, sure....

Dogs are dangerous and I’m sorry this happened. Unfortunately, it’s not entirely the dog’s fault, they go off instinct. It’s the owners responsibility to raise a dog that fits in our society. If people don’t fulfill the dog’s basic needs and teach them how to behave in their environment then tragic things like this happen. People are responsible for their dogs. We all should do our research before making a choice to get a dog.
