Who was Melchior Hoffman? Founder of Dutch Anabaptism | Hoffman's Significance to Mennonites
Menno Simons is often considered the founder of the Mennonites, but he is not the founder of Dutch Anabaptism. Menno converted to peaceful Dutch Anabaptism in 1536, which has been established by a man named Melchior Hoffman. Hoffman was a prominent Sacramentalist and Lutheran, but when he came to the free city of Strasbourg, he converted to Anabaptism. Upon his rebaptism, Hoffman went on a mission to transplant Anabaptism to the North, with an apocalyptic twist!

I left a big city for KS and hang out with Anabaptists, mostly Holdeman folks. After experiencing the simplicity in which one can live, I find the modern world to be totally insane.
Hoffman seems like an interesting figure in history.

The Brethren did not call themselves "Anabaptists", this nomer was given them by the enemy.
