The Schleitheim Confession (1527) First Statement of the Anabaptists: Amish, Mennonites & Hutterites

We are taking a look at the early Anabaptist's first official, agree upon, doctrinal statement of faith, The Schleitheim Confession of 1527.
The Schleitheim Confession was created by Anabaptist leaders intending to lay the foundation for a true, free, apostolic, biblical church that would correspond to the teachings of Jesus Christ in the New Testament.
The chairman of the secret meeting in Schlietheim with Michael Sattler. And although Michael Sattler and most other attendee's of the conference will die soon afterwards, the agreed upon doctrinal beliefs in the Schleitheim Confession will guide the Anabaptists century after century, even for some, up until today.

Very informative (at least for us non-anabaptists). I also like the non-violence approach. great job, and thanks!

Thank you. These people are in the Amish and Mennonite communities. They are a beacon for the weary person looking for a true way to the Kingdom of God.

This is right, the message, the good news, the gospel, should be accurately and faithfully communicated; but.... I Corinthians 3 says this dear brother (and I find it both accurate and amazing, and refining) NO MORE BOASTING ABOUT HUMAN LEADERS - see Paul's admonition at the end. I Corinthians "3 Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly-mere infants in Christ. 2 I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. 3 You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans? 4 For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not mere human beings? 5 What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe-as the Lord has assigned to each his task. 6 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. 7 So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. 8 The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. 9 For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building. 10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved-even though only as one escaping through the flames. 16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple. 18 Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become “fools” so that you may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness”; 20 and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.” 21 So then, no more boasting about human leaders! All things are yours, 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future-all are yours, 23 and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God. "

Very well explained! I agree with John Yoder's quote at the end, that setting established borders is what kept the Anabaptist movement alive. Sadly, most other branches of the reformation eventually withered away under state persecution. Great video as always!

I like your emphasis on the expanded availability of the Word of God, the noticing of the excesses taken by the church "elites", and the need to bring clarity and definition to a movement away from ecclesiastical control by a limited body of "the knowing"; laying the foundation for a "free, Biblical, apostolic like church rooted in the Bible and the teachings of Jesus (the Christ)" to unite a diverse and fragmented movement. CLARITY IS DIFFERENT FROM CONTROL. From wiki I have this fairly common definition of magisterium: "The magisterium of the Catholic Church is the church's authority or office to give authentic interpretation of the word of God, "whether in its written form or in the form of Tradition". According to the 1992 Catechism of the Catholic Church, the task of interpretation is vested uniquely in the Pope and the bishops, though the concept has a complex history of development." wiki Is God not able, through the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, to lead His people into a clear and satisfying understanding of the simple meaning of what He is telling them in Holy Scripture? Um, we think so.

I love those videos about not so known Christian confessions. There is also a not that known christian confession but I don't know how to spell it in english. In romanian it is called moravienii You should check on youtube: "Trezirea moraviana: documentar crestin" In the documentary they speak in english and have romanian subtitles. Who knows, maybe it will ispire you to make a video about them. Keep up the good work. God bless!

@@DainetheHistorian: I believe it might be the Moravian Church, with roots in the teaching of Jan Hus and Count Zinzendorf. They were Pietists who originally had many things in common with Anabaptists, but who continued to baptize infants. They were formerly serious students of the Bible who devoted much time to prayer and service, and they had an awesome early missionary movement.
