    I am of the Black Baptist persuasion in the United States. My understanding is that, because of persistent segregation, Black Baptists either left or were driven away from White Baptists. So today, we have the Southern Baptist Convention - the White Baptists, and the National Baptist Convention - the Black Baptists. I went to a Catholic high school and that is where I learned about the Protestant Reformation. Being a contrarian, I chose to become a Lutheran - at a Catholic school. Still, my family background was Black Baptist, and I returned to my roots years later. What I intended to say was, "Thank you!" Thank you for clarifying the term "Anabaptist": over the years, the Greek meaning of the prefix became cloudy to me. I thought calling ourselves "Baptist" in the U.S. was a shortening of the term. Yours is the second video to make the connection between the Amish, Mennonites, and Baptists. Also, you explained that the Anabaptists wound up splitting from the original schismites like Luther, Calvin, and Zwingli primarily because they opposed State involvement with the Church. That's huge! And it shows our hypocrisy in how Reformers executed dissenters the same way the Catholic Church executed Reformers. Flawed human beings we be. Pardon my rambling. I'm older than you by at least four decades, yet I focused on your content like a student still in school. Really good work: I subscribed!

    You’re doing a wonderful job! The one thing I would recommend for a future videos is to look up online and listen to the pronunciation of place names and people’s names before you use them in a video. For example, in every Germanic language, whenever you see “ch” it sounds like the ch in Bach, rather than in cheese. When you see a W it sounds like our letter V. When you see the letter U, it sounds like “oo.” When you see “eu” it sounds like the English “oy.” The Germanic letter J is pronounced with an English “Y” sound. So Waldshut is “Valds-hoot,” or Woods Hat! 😊 I really appreciate all the research you are doing into Anabaptist history, and how accessible you are making it on KZread! In the future I would also love to see some videos about the Schwarzenau Brethren, who took the Early Church and the Anabaptists as role models. Your accent sounds Canadian to me. Are you a Canadian Mennonite? God bless you brother! 🙏🏽

I don't really understand them and where they came from and how their movement grew, or the details of their worship (aside from being 'spirit filled'). There is also a charasmatic Chatholic center by me so is there some kind of relation between the two? Also, not much is ever said about Ethiopian Orthodox vs the different Eastern Orthodox churches, that would also be a cool video. And just the history of the eastern orthodox church in general. Aside from the great schism, how involved was ot in government, how was it affected by politics and war. Just some ideas!

  • @DainetheHistorian

    @DainetheHistorian

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thank-you Snicko!! Of course! Are you Ukrainian? The anabaptists came to western parts of Ukraine in the 16th century, fleeing persecution from the catholic and magisterial protestant state churches of the Holy roman empire (mostly modern day Germany), and other European states. They were treated very well, and by the late 1800's, there was over 200,000 practicing anabaptists in the Ukraine. However, the Soviet Union harshly persecuted them, and many fled to North/South America (read about the Russian Mennonites in Mexico, Bolivia etc... really interesting). But today, Ukraine still houses one of the largest (and growing) baptist populations in the world. In the Ukraine, theres also the "All-Ukrainian Union of Church of Evangelical Christian-Baptists", (AUC-ECB), which has over 300,000 active members attending over 2,800 churches While I was doing some extra research to answer you question, I discovered that the Baptist church in the Ukraine is attracting many young people, and has over 20,000 students in Baptist universities, which is really nice to see! If you want more information, please let me know brother!

    Great video! One major correction needed where you depicted Menno Simons and Jakob Amann as on opposite ends of a continuum. Menno was a Dutch Anabaptist. Jakob came from the Swiss Anabaptists. The Swiss brethren believed in a fiery brotherly love, and excommunicated only as a last resort,even then still loving the excommunicated. Menno, on the other hand, believed the church must be pure, and excommunicated people readily and harshly. At one point, he excommunicated the entire Swiss brethren church because of their unwillingness to excommunicate wrongdoers! Because of very heavy persecution, the Swiss moved down the mountain into Germany, and lived among the Dutch Mennonites, who were quite prosperous by this time because they were no longer persecuted. The Swiss brethren,who were destitute and had no means to print their own Shleitheim Confession of Faith, accepted the Dutch Mennonites' Dordrecht Confession of Faith which was in print and widely distributed. Unfortunately, Menno Simons harsh church ban was included in this confession, and Jakob Amann thought they should be doing this. Other Swiss brethren didn't agree. Thus the division, which was Jakob actually agreeing with Menno.

    Hi. I just subscribe. I hope God helps you reach your goal to 1000 subscribers. Also I have 2 questions. You mention that Anababtist flew to Romania. I.m from Romania and this is the first time I heard this, I never knew they were in to my country. Our country was ortodox. Do you have any insights about how they were treated during their time there? Is it true that Martin Luther never wanted to cause division or separation in the catholic church and start a new movement? Did he regreted his actions to some extent? Didn't he tried to convince people not to leave the catholic church?

  • @DainetheHistorian

    @DainetheHistorian

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes! The Transylvanian Prince, Gabriel Bethlen, in 1621, invited the anabaptists (mostly the Hutterites) to come to the country and settle the land, as they needed craftsmen and farmers. In the following years, more and more anabaptists fled to Romania, fleeing the persecution committed by the catholic and magisterial protestant state churches. Because more and more Hutterites and anabaptists kept coming to Romania, I am sure they were welcomed and treated warmly! With regards to your second question, I do not know very much about the protestant reformation or of Martin Luther's true motivations, however, my knowledge of church history and christianity is always growing, so when I feel that I have the knowledge to answer your question, I certainly will! In the 1620's the Hutterites from Moravia were invited in Transylvania by the prince Gabriel (Gábor) Bethlen. It is said that when they received their invitation many of them were affraid that it is a trap, so refused. But Bethlen wanted very much them to settle in Transilvania. Short information about Transylvania (it has nothing to do with Dracula). It was the Eastern part of Hungary, which after the Ottomans occupied its Central regions after 1526, broke from it and formed an independent princehood (under loose Ottoman vassalage), under the Hungarian king John Sigismund. In 1568, at the Diet of Torda, John Sigismund convinced by his Unitarian court preacher Francis David (in Hungarian Dávid Ferenc) about the importance of religious freedom, declared the freedom of religion for the first time in the world, allowing all religions from this little state (Catholics, Lutherans, Calvinists, Unitarians, Orthodoxs, Jews) to profess their faith in total liberty. So Transylvania became the only land of religious freedom in Europe. Gábor Bethlen was a Hungarian Calvinist, and faithful to the Law of Religious Freedom declared in 1568. He led three campaigns against the Habsburgs, and forced them to recognize the religious freedom of the Hungarians from the Kingdom of Hungary under the Habsburg control. He heard about the persecutions of Hutterites, and wanted them to settle in Transylvania, understanding also that the Hutterites are very good craftsmen and wanted them to spread this in his country. So when he was refused by the Hutterites, he decided that he has to convince them of his good intentions, but to do this he did a very surprising thing. He put some of his men to abduct some Hutterites and bring them by force in Transylvania. So they did this. Here he showed these respect and demonstrated that they have nothing to fear here, and they can live and profess their religion in total freedom. So in 1621 the "abducted" Hutterites went back to Moravia and convinced the other Hutterites to come to Transylvania. The Hungarians and the Saxons from Transylvania named them Habán (from the German Haushaben). The Hutterites came in great numbers in Transylvania and lived a peaceful life until 1690, when their old enemies, the Habsburgs took over Transylvania, ending the independence of this land. The Habsburgs immediately started to persecute them and to enforce on them the Catholic faith. So in 1767, when other Hutterites too joined them from the West, they fled Transylvania to Wallachia, where they stood 3 years, then they moved to the Russian Empire (todays Ukrain), then in 1874 they all moved in the USA. Today in Transylvania and Hungary in different museums you can find the beautifully painted Habán vases, plates, as relics of the Hutterites 140 years spent in Transylvania.

    Zwingli, the epitome of Swiss neutrality, straddling both sides of the fence! I speak as a Swiss. My Dad, before he arrived in Canada, was from a canton close to Zurich and adhered to the Zwingli principles of faith. In order to marry my mother, a Roman Catholic, he had to sign a document saying he would never speak of the bible or of his faith to any future offspring, which promise he kept. Growing up as devout Catholics, the word 'Zwingli' was synonymous with 'Daddy's going to hell' :-) Those were pre-Vatican II days. I left the Roman faith over 40 years ago at which time I diligently studied the doctrines of the former 'bad guys', the Reformers. Then when I was thoroughly indoctrinated, I was shocked to discover that my Dad's hero was, in fact, a persecutor of the REAL believers in Sola Scriptura.

    @@dianehelena salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. Trust His accomplished work on the cross to save you from your sins if you have not. It's not about trying to find the earliest denomination. The true church has always existed and is made up of all those who are found in Christ. Those saved individuals meet together in local assemblies which is the visible church. The Roman Catholics really messed up by insisting that Peter's apostolic line is passed down through succession and that it is the church that has the final authority in deciding what scripture says. The word of God is breathed out by Him and He is the one who declared what He means in His word. Sola scriptura is correct and the scriptures contain all we need to know for life and godliness. The Anabaptist Hutterites expanded out of Moravia (modern day Czech Republic) and into Slovakia (back then the upper kingdom of Hungary) in the late 1500’s, creating hundreds of settlements. The Habánsky dvor Vel’ké Leváre (Haban Yard/village) was one of these settlements, and was actually founded in 1592 AD. My study of the Amish and Mennonites notes the same events and people that the video portrays. But there is something missing: We could treat this history as one more example in which “the establishment” tried to squash a healthy, organic expression of personal freedom. But our ancestors had legitimate concerns about political stability, pressures from the Catholic Pope, economic factors, et cetera. Isn’t the fear of attack by the armies loyal to Rome similar to modern worries about nuclear attack or terrorism? The story of the Anabaptists isn’t complete when we see them only as martyrs, failing to understand the pressure exerted upon the people who felt compelled to oppose them.

A way not to let you know,they were finally caught,FRANCO PRUSSIAN,and english beat napoleon who were invading trash.They come when they think your defeated so good the English kept up the work,I would think.Europeons had to be some crazy hard headed people to keep going to war.They all had reasons

    There are many churches and different baptists alike believing themselves to be the true church. Yet the Truth revealed, not a single church accepts Him as He really is, no not one. Do not stumble over the letter and remember: the Spirit of the Word, and not the letter, is the Way, Truth and Life as it is written. Thus says the Lord of His true church: "Again I say to you, My church has no walls, and is called by no other name except the name The Father has given Me. Its members are of one mind and one spirit, of one love, one flock with one Shepherd, a people set apart who keep The Commandments of The Father and remain faithful to The Son, striving always to walk in My ways. For those who truly know Me dwell in Me, and I in them. For they are Mine, even as I am theirs also - My body, My bride. Therefore woe to any church of men, who claims to be the true church and remnant. Woe, I say to them. For they have placed themselves in the seat of The Father, and therefore remain under God’s judgment. For none walk according to the Truth, not one accepts Me as I truly am; all have gone astray, teaching as doctrine the commandments of men. Beloved, no one can come to Me, unless The Father who sent Me draws them to Me. And only those who accept Me as I truly am are of My body, for The Truth resides within them and is revealed by their works. Yes, even these stumble in their walk, for they are but flesh. Yet I am He who searches the Hearts and minds, I know My own; I know whose love is steadfast, Whose faith is unmoving... And this is the True Church My people long for, the remnant Which now is and is yet to come... For it is not found outwardly in the world, But inwardly, in the temple of God... I am The Lord." Says He whose name is YAHUSHUA-YAHUWAH. From His Volumes of Truth, the Word of the Lord spoken to this generation! Thus says The Lord, concerning baptism: "Let My beloved first be baptized in spirit and in truth, filled with the knowledge of The Holy, nourished by the Word of Truth. Let them come to Me in sincere repentance, and receive forgiveness of sins in The Messiah’s name... All burdens lifted, immersed and purified in The Spirit of God. For The Holy One of Israel is He who baptizes with The Holy Spirit and with fire, and He knows His own. Therefore, hear and understand: The Water of Life is not of the earth. Rather The Water of Life is that which flows from the body of Messiah. For in Him alone shall one know salvation and receive everlasting life. Therefore be baptized in the knowledge and wisdom of The Beloved. Listen to Him and walk in His ways, and you shall surely be accepted. Tell Me, is the water of the earth able to take away your sins, or cleanse you of your transgressions? Can a river lead you to salvation or a stream call you to repentance? In what waters have you heard The Word of God speak? Thus baptism by water can not save you. Rather salvation comes by the hearing of The Gospel, And through the confession of the mouth that YahuShua, Called Jesus, is Lord, believing HE IS WHO HE IS... The Risen One... The Only Way, The Only Truth, The Only Life... For only by true repentance, in accord with the heart’s desire To be in union with The Messiah, shall one be set free. So then go forth, and be baptized in the waters of the earth, if you so desire. Yet remember this: Baptism in and of itself is nothing, unless the heart of the one being immersed has truly been converted. Thus baptism is for a testimony, an exercise in faith for the one who is saved already; or a mere dampening of the clothes of the one who came forth in pretense. For I am The Lord, I search the hearts and minds, and I know whether or not one has truly been converted in their heart." Remember what you have heard, honor with mouth is nothing unless the heart has confessed YahuShua is who He is. Let it be your joy! There is one confession He is very pleased in, behold it shall be revealed to you. For thus has the Lord spoken through one of the 144 000: "There is one God and Father, one Lord who causes to be - YAHUWAH. There is one Savior, The Only Begotten of The Father, by whom all things consist - YAHUSHUA. And they are ONE. If then there is only one Lord, one God and one Savior, and in our language He is called “Lord” and “God”, then would not calling anyone or anything else “Lord” or “God”, whether a false god or a man, be blasphemy? Does not The Lord Himself search our hearts and minds, even our innermost thoughts and intentions? Does He not know who we are referring to, when we say “Jesus[1] is Lord”? Even throughout the world, believers and unbelievers alike know the name “Jesus” (a name given to YahuShua by men) refers to He who was crucified and rose from the dead. And if we say YAHUSHUA is YAHUWAH, is this not also self-evident? Even before the earth was made, there is ONE alone who was and is and has always been THE LORD ABSOLUTE, which by definition demands there can be only one. Thus all others, whether man, false deity or carved image, referred to as “Lord” in English or in any other language, are false! - Deceivers! Impostors! Idols! - To call any of these “Lord” is blasphemy, even on the highest order! For thus has The Lord spoken: One God... One Son, The Only Way to The Father... One Truth, One Word, One Messiah, One Spirit; One Food, One Bread and One Drink... One Body... Of which I am all, The All in All." If you so choose, receive brothers and sisters! Freely i was given, freely receive. Receive also this warning, for the great and terrible day draws near: "My servants, to warn your brothers and sisters, Even to your neighbors and countrymen, Whether they will hear or whether They will forbear, is LOVE... For only an evil man would fail to warn his fellows, When he had knowledge of coming calamity... And only a wicked man meet for death would save himself, While forsaking those nearby to the sword... Says The Lord." And He most certainly takes no pleasure in the destruction of the wicked as it is written, nor is there everlasting torment as taught by the churches of men.

Yes different ones tried to right wrongs in the Catholic Church but i don't have any heritage that goes to Catholic Church. Even though some modern "Baptist" claim to have their origin in the reformation thats not true for all. Jesus made a promise that the gates of hell would not prevail against the church, and it has been kept. Though we've always been persecuted and our writings burned in an attempt wipe us out it hasn't worked. I believe His church always been in practice and is now the Independent Baptist Church.

    The state church never represented Jesus and His kingdom at all. State power does not give its choke hold up easy.

    Gods true saved churches were always around (and being persecuted)even before the reformation from the time of Christ and preaching Grace and not of works and believers baptism. You cannot reform a false and wicked religion such as Catholicism .

    That is why they separated from Catholic churches. It was not a Reformation it was a severing. I don't like the word Reformation to describe the church activities of that time either.

    I don't understand why a reform was needed. The reforms are man-made, based on ideas, opinions and false "God's voice". Jesus left only one church, not many. There is enough Christians history to tell us how the first Christians were living their faith. Christianity didn't start in Berlin, but Jerusalem, than Antioch, Alexandria, Constantinople and Rome. Read the history of the Desert Egyptian Holy Fathers. That is a divine faith, the rest are just poor imitations of what Christianity should look like. Look for the Orthodox Faith. God bless!

    11:30 It is highly offending to someone with historical and geographical knowledge to hear you say, "Tyrol, modern day Italy". Tyrol is still in Austria, and the southern part wrongfully finds itself in modern day Italy - it is not a large part of it, and it is explicitly called southern. Get a fucking map

    Sorry but you need to read a little book called the trail of blood as this is not an account of Anabaptists or Rebaptizers as the Catholic church called them, they were also called Paulicians, or Waldenses, they were the true church, they stood on the grounds that the catholic church had fallen away from true belief and had apostatized by introducing infant baptism among other things that were unholy. they were then called Anabatists or Rebaptizers because the baptism of the catholic church was just "getting them wet". I hope you read the trail of blood as it is very informative on how each church got their start but the TRUE Church of Jesus our Savior has never had the gates of hell prevail against it.
