I'd have imagined the hardest thing would be not eating bacon, shepherds pie, roast chicken, fish and chips, sausage and mash, having butter in your mash - or on your toast. All eggless cakes are monstrous - and just the simple pleasures of a fried egg or beautiful, light delicate omelette? Or a rich and indulgent one oozing with cheese? Or a piece of cave aged vintage Cheddar, Stilton, roquefort, Brie or Emmenthal on a cracker, or a Quiche Lorraine, cheese on toast, ploughman's lunch, cheese fondue, quattro formaggi pizza - or any pizza - or anything Italian for that matter which simply wouldn't be the same without dolce latte, gorgonzola, grana padano or - can you imagine, PARMESAN??!😂😂😂 Puh-leeze don't tell me about all the wonderful vegetable and fungus derived alternatives. All margarine is awful, however much the manufacturers put Butter(ly) in the title, oat/almond etc milk is not milk at all - it is the extremely expensive and very highly processed "juice" mostly of various nuts and seeds, essentially crushed with about 99% water and chemically treated with various surfactants, enzymes and emulsifiers - plus sugar - and then sold to gullible people who think the grotesque chemical soup they're putting on their cereal and in their tea is "healthy, natural, environmentally responsible and kinder to animals" when all they've done is fallen for an insane fad that merely shifts (if not outright increases) the burden on the Earth - as well as demonstrating their naivety since all they're really doing is consuming something that's of highly dubious "benefit" to their health but worst of all puts money in the pockets of giant corporations who don't give a toss about people, their health, the environment or animal welfare. The only way nut milks could be made even slightly healthy is if they're homemade which is time consuming, tedious and even more expensive and therefore only open to the leisured classes. And who wants to eat a slice of coffee and walnut with their late afternoon cup of tea, which has been made with aquafaba ?? Soooo. Drrrryyyyy. I mean call me a glass half empty person if you want - but I'd rather be sold to Saudi Arabian "prince" as a sex slave than become a vegan. And if one were a paedo, it seems that should be easier to admit to that, than being vegan😂😂🎉🎉 But no, people who are vegan also fail to appreciate their own mental illness, as they can't resist drivelling on about it which is both a passive/aggressive virtue signalling humblebrag - and while I can just about understand that as human nature - say, in the manner of how people gossip which isn't a good thing but is universal - what I don't understand is how vegans mentioning their veganism - AGAIN - don't seem to have the faintest clue they just get on everyone's tits - and that's over and above the selfish and sanctimonious disruption within families involving separate meals! Gaaaaahhhhhhhh!!

I live in a big city with lots of vegan restaurants and vegan specialty shops, so I guess there are lots of vegans around me. I've only met one person who told me they were vegan, and that was about 10 years ago.

I quit eating meat 40 years ago. I didn’t quit because of not liking the taste. It was for ethical reasons. Back then there had been no meat from organic and ethically treated livestock available in Supermarkets here in Germany. The conditions in mass production and transportation of the animals were (and still are today) heartbreaking. I just didn’t want to be part of that business model anymore. If there had been good sources to buy meat from back then, I probably wouldn’t have quit. - Now meat from organic farming has big share of the market here, but I kept staying a vegetarian (not a vegan). From animaIs I now only eat eggs and aged cheeses (like Parmesan) and some honey . Another thing worth considering is that meat consumption is detrimental for environment. It‘s a wasteful luxury we allow ourselves. In order to produce 1 unit of animal protein you need to feed 7 units of vegetable protein to the animal first. It’s very inefficient and destroying nature in order to grow crops to feed to animals. - Happy New Year

Funny story... I actually impressed a "Vegan" friend of mine a couple years ago. I was having a BBQ and didn't want to be a jerk by simply assuming they wouldn't come. So I sent them an invite, specifically saying in the invite that it was a BBQ and the menu that WE would be offering would lean heavily in the meat department. They came, bringing their own food, and had a great time.

This is something a lot of comics joke about; it's not original. I also think it's not true. The only time you find out someone is vegan is if you are with them in a restaurant and they are asking the server if a particular dish is vegan.

The only time I don’t mind someone telling me their vegan is if we are gosh somewhere to eat since it’s actually relevant information then, otherwise I just don’t care

The timing and punchline of this joke is amazing - maybe a little like Chapelle would do it. Everyone was waiting for him to proceed with this normal boring rant people usually go, and then he turned it into sausages 😅

Interestingly, I can't say I share the same experience. When this topic comes up, though, it's always well within the context, like in a restaurant or dinner parties when there are so few vegan options. So if there is an asymmetry it's because it's cultural. If you are on a boat you won't be explaining to everybody that you can swim. But if you can't swim, it's not out of ordinary to let everybody know, just in case.
