Its an OTG Cable, its important that it can transfer data :).

Hey Khadim, loving the app. Any plans to allow editing of .pgn files with variations using the DGT board? I'd love to be able to save post game analysis immediately, or even create .pgn files while following a chess book.

Sir, just bought a DGT board. Will this app work on iphone13? App store reviews say it doesn’t work on apple??

Hi Khadim, Thanks a lot. We keep trying. Phones: I have tried 2: Oppo A53S (USB-C port) and Motorola moto g5S (micro-USB port). Smartphone-board connection: I have made it through two cables spliced one after the other. In the case of the Oppo it was a USB-C to USB OTG cable connected to a USB to mini-USB cable. For the Motorola it was the same, only the OTG cable used was micro-USB to USB. I have not yet been able to get an OTG cable to make the smartphone-board connection with a single cable. Board: has a mini-USB port; It doesn't have a battery, but it works by connecting it to a PC via a USB to mini-USB cable and I suppose it should also be charged from the cable that comes from the smartphone. I have checked the help page (whitepawn.app/support/faq#usbconnect) and the DGT USB(USB-C) and USB(microUSB) boards appear in the list of supported boards, but the miniUSB does not appear. I am very thankfull for your help. Cheers

It looks great! I'll try it as soon as I can, it allows you to play on lichess with dgt even at shorter times than the integration on the site, it doesn't do anything not allowed by lichess does it?

thank you for your feedback. You can play following times only over lichess: "Time controls: Rapid, Classical and Correspondence only", everthing else is disallowed by the lichess api. But you play shorter times over the whitepawn-app directly if your opponent uses the app aswell :)

Hey Khadim, great app! Works perfectly well with my smart board. Just a plea - on the lichess opponents details, could you also include their rating & nation (flag) just below their name? This is very important if you ask me.

I just purchased DGT chess board recently and I was looking for a good app that I can use with my phone/tablet .. and this one looks great .. excellent job!! I have few comments to add though .. first when you play online it doesn't announce moves (or maybe I couldn't figure it out yet ?).. second .. the board looks very small on samsung galaxy tab .. any chance to add customize screen and bigger board?

There is voice feedback for online matches, you can enable / disable it by clicking the volume buttom on the upper right corner :)

Have since yesterday the DGT e-Board USB Rosewood with the Timeless chess pieces. The Walnut e-Board USB are out of stock. Have a iPhone 11 Pro Max / iPad Pro and see that your great app not work on it. Would like to buy the DGT Pi if i have the money for it.

Hallo Khadim, kann man auch bei Lichess eine Endspielsituation aufbauen, dieses auf das Brett so stellen und von dort aus mit den board gegen eine KI von Lichess weiter spielen? Das Board scheint ja die Figuren zu erkennen. Ich glaube die Funktion geht Parallel auch mit deiner App ohne Lichess, richtig? Überlege mir ein solches board zu holen, da müsste das gehen. Ansonsten kann ich auch beim Pegasus bleiben.

Hey, ja also du kannst einfach jede position die du möchtest auf dem Brett aufbauen und dann wenn du ein neues Engine-Match oder Offline-Match startest auf das abgebildete Schachbrett klicken und von der position weiterspielen. ☺️🥂

Only option I have is connect Bluetooth. How can I get it to recognize DGT USB?

Hi, thx for this App. I use it to play against my brother. We both have a dgt board connected with a android phone. We play on lichess friendly games, also to analyse later on. It works great till now. Just 1 question: is there a 'take back' possibility?

Hey thanks for the Feedback! I am currently working on a better WhitePawn online feature, which will offer take back aswell. Also you can then add friends without the need playing over Lichess. Anyways I added a Task to the Taskboard to allow takeback on Lichess aswell.

@@LuigiVo Ahh yes that is an issue I already fixed in beta, i will be released soon. If you play computer match, and color is set to random, the computer always plays one color. In this case white. Is this the issue you see? You can choose the color for know, and the problem will be fixed in the next version :)

Hello I have a question. Your board doesn't have the algebraic notation on it correct? If in the scenario where you're playing a friend OTB but use the DGT board to record the games. If you switch colors/sides after every game does the board recognize that or do you have to spin the board around after each game?

This app would get more popular if it can be played with any board. Like for instance you announce the move when you make the move on the board to the app and the app will then announce it's own move

Hi - Very excited about this app. I have the app on my new Lenovo tablet but when I connect my usb dgt board to the tablet the app doesn't open up automatically nor it sees the board. Anything I should do to make it work? eg install some drivers etc...Many thanks in advance

Hey awesome! Thank you for your support!! First the cable has to be a otg cable. Second the board name has to start with DGT so if your tablet renames the usb devices, you can enable unknown devices inside the connection dialog (small gear icon in top right corner) to see the device. Hope that helps :)

@@ctestestestest Hey thats a good question! I want to make a deep inside video on both dgt boards and the millennium board. But its much work, I will try to start with that after my exams. But for now just a quick overview. Pro Millennium is: Much faster response time, compatible with iOS because it has ble. The Millennium Board is smaller what i consider cons. I would say the DGT feels much better from the material and haptics. But its only compatible with Android.

@@fraggil3 yes, actually every android device should work. As there are many manufactures and also many variations of the system, especially in the Chinese market, I can not guarantee you that for every device. I always recommend getting a device with stock android and probably a not too old one. Means you should probably stick with at least android 9 :).

How fast is the response like compared to Millennium Chess Computer when playing blitz (3+2). DGT smart board is cheaper than Chess Genius Exclusive

The response time is much faster on the Millennium than on the traditional DGT Board but I think the response time is not a very big issue (at least for me).

Is it possible if I get an adaptor to connect 2 phones into the same DGT board and control the pieces on both phones via the board? Point being is we would be able to play OTB for online elo and match analysis afterward

You can try that but I suspect that I wont work because if one phone sends a command to the board, both phones will receive the answer and this will most probably confuse the app. But I mean the protocol is not that complicated so probably it still works, I would give it a try! :) Happy to hear if it worked, but if you ask me, I would say it most probably don't :/

@@khadimfall6168 I would be great if you could have this on the whitepawn app. I agree that both phones will receive the move update from the board, though each piece is unique so the corresponding phone will make the move for its own piece. The whitepawn app will act as a controller to relay the move command toward lichess API correspondingly. Just a thought

@@jbbairsoft8714 zhought about something like that but more like a connection between the phones and one phone connected to the board. The phones would communicate between each other, so the board connected phone would also be the board transmitter for the second one. That would also enable BLE boards to be used OTB over Lichess. But thats not yet implemented. Very intersting Idea though, omo ! 🥂

DGT boards: which boards are compatible with your app: only bluetooth or also boards that only work with USB cable? My board doesn't have a USB C port but only a standard USB cable and the app can't find the board. Other app on android do see my board fine. Are there setup instructions somewhere? How do you setup a USB board? Thanks - otherwise, great try! Good luck. Is there a way to contact you directly?

my App is called WhitePawn. You can click on the link in video description. On that website you can find the links to google playstore and apple app store. Further DGT will only work with Android, so just that you know :)

Excellent application but in my region the internet is often disconnected at times but when it is reconnected the application does not reconnect. Also the function to filter players appears but it does not filter them. I appreciate you taking these drawbacks into account to improve the application. Thanks

Great looking app. Unfortunately it's not working with my DGT board, it just says no board connected. How are you able to connect your DGT board with USB as shown? External accessories are supported with IoS, so maybe an IoS limitation because of jailing 3rd-party apps (like dart), you should be able to create a swift app or a swift wrapper to your current dart solution? I'd love to use this with my usb DGT board, so please let me know if I can help...I'm a software engineer also :)

Hey thanks for your comment! Yes you can add swift/kotlin functionality to dart apps. For example thats how the external oex engine feature works on android. The issue is that DGT Boards are not MFi certified but are using Serial USB. iOS does not allow serial usb communication with not mfi certified devices :)

Thanks Khadim. Which DGT chess board is this? On offline match, is the a way to share the PGN of the game? Does this have to be done immediately or is it saved in the app on the phone. I assume this one is not Bluetooth?

It is the DGT USBC Board in Rosewood. The Games are saved persistently in the Game History and can be exported as PGN :)

@@scoopbls Yes it does, but DGT Boards are only compatible with Android, as iOS doesn't support bluetooth classic.

Not yet. DGT will never be compatible to iOS as they use (very old) technology which is not supported on iOS. I got hands on some Millenium Boards, they most probably will be compatible to iOS aswell. Updates soon :). Currently you can only play in the app if you use iOS.

when i try to play in lichess its saying link your account , and when i try to link it says beta expect issues ? how to fixed it

Yes that should work. As every manufacturer does its own thing, it could potentially be that it doesn't work for your particular device, but in most cases of connection issues it was the cable or adapter which was broken or could not transfer data :)

Ho khadim. Il a french player. Very great app. But impossible for me to connect m’y dgt board usb. I sélect dgt driver on your app but the message say « Connect failed ». Have you a solution for me? Sorry for m’y basic english😊. Have fun. Regards

I am using a bluetooth dgt board connected to app running on a pixel 5. However after pairing I see some pawns are not recognized on the board. Also when i play the engine, the connected board status shows a bunch of errors on the board. Can you help?

Hey Javier, thanks for your feedback! that should be fine, and had indeed two times the case that people have used wired adapters or cables and the same problem was fixed by using a different adapter. Can your cable transfer data ? Also you could check if the App has the right permissions to access serial usb in the settings of your phone :). All the best, Khadim

My first impression was the same, that the cable together with the adapter were not working, unfortunately I do not have a data cable from USB C to Mini USB, but today I will do the test with a data cable with another phone that does have a C port. , so I will use a USB C to USB C cable. The curious part is that I am thinking about the possibility of buying an economic cell phone or tablet only to record the games with your application because I am an apple user and I have read your explanations of why it is not yet feasible to make compatibility with apple. A shame, that we hope one day they will let you do it so that your application reaches even more people. If you do not mind, I will continue to inform you how I am doing today with the new attempt using another cell phone with a C to C data cable. Greetings and take good care of yourself.

Hey nice to hear from you. Yes its also on the tasklist for white pawn. Initially i wanted to add the lichess engine in the first release, but i didnt work out time wise. It will defnitlly come later on. I would also like to add stockfish, but this will be more complicated. So basically lichess engine will be added next; Stockfish und UCI engines could take a while, but i would like to tackle that aswell :))

if you are playing against the computer, can you turn off screen and just turn the speaker on? or turn the screen off so when the computer makes the move it'll be shown as notification

Yes that should work, you can enable move announcement and turn the screen off. Currently there are no notifications tho :).

Sadly no, the centaur offers no connection to external devices. It handles everthing inernally, as it is a standalone chess computer.

What kind of cable are you using to connect between your phone and DGT board? My Bluetooth\USB board has a mini usb connection and my Iphone cable has a normal usb connection. Would be awesome if you were to add bluetooth connection functionality.

Yes i am planning to add bluetooth functionality as next step. Usb is not working on iOS devices, Apple is not allowing to communicate with the board sadly... I am using an usbc cable ☺️

I have new insides and now its clear bluetooth wont work with iphone aswell. Because iOS only support Bluetooth Low Energy devices, now me and a friend of mine trying to build a small vonverter device which can be plugged into the board and send bluetooth low energy. The board itself doent support it. Could take a while sadly :/.

This is a misunderstanding, Apple doenst allow bluetooth classic on ios devices, thus the ios app cannot connect to bluetooth classic devices. DGT Boards are using bluetooth classic... sadly. But you can commect from an Android device :). On whitepawn.app you can see all supported boards and wether they are supported by android or ios :).

Leider bekomme ich mit meinem iPhone und iPad keine Verbindung zum DGT Smart Board USB hin. App findet das Brett nicht. Offenbar gibt es dafür keine Lösung? Ja leider kann man iOS Geräte nicht per USB oder Bluetooth Classic mit DGT Boards verbinden. Ja auf Android geht die Verbindung, ich selbst benutze ein Pixel und das Board mit usb. Es gibt 1-2 Geräte von Huawei die anscheinend Probleme hatten mit der Verbindung. Ansonsten weiss ich nichts von Verbindungsproblemen. Weil jeder Hersteller seine eigene Geschichte baut kann ich aber keine Garantie geben das es wirklich mit jedem Android läuft.

Hi Khadim, Is there any possibility to add Millenium Chess Board to your app?. That board has led on it, so you can concentrate on the board. No need to watch on the phone or listen to the sound(other app). They also bring out the official size chess board soon. I tried both DGT and Millenieum chess. Play using board you always loss a bit of time. Delay, react, moving opponent pieces, etc. I cannot play 15 or 10 minute with DGT Board. Always run out time. I can only play 30 minute game. But its to long and not much people play 30 minute online. Meanwhile with Millenieum chess i can play 15 minute game. 10 minute play is still not much time but at lease i can finish the game sometime.

Yes sadly DGT Boards are not supported on iOS. Its due to a technical limitation, they are supported on android tho :)

Not with the old DGT Boards as they do not send BLE and Apple only support BLE... But hopefully new DGT Boards. Also Millennium Boards are compatible :)

Using my DGT bluetooth with the Android app. Works well when playing against stockfish. Any way to allow board setup and analysis? Does it also record games?

What do you mean by with board setup? Analysis works, if you go to the main menu you will find game history. There are you last games listed. You can analyze in the app or export the game to a different application to analyze there :)

Hey ICU, sadly no, iOS is jot compatible by cable neither by bluetooth. Its a technical limitation so I cannot do anything about it.. I am sorry but you can check the board compatibility table on whitepawn.app there are other boards which are compatible with iOS. Or you can use Android if you have access to an Android device. Hey, if you want to play online against friends just click on "Online Match", then you can choose if you want to play over the whitepawn app or lichess.If you choose Lichess make sure you have signed in before, by clicking the lichess icon on the upper right corner on the home screen. Afterwards you can choose your lichess friend or a stranger to play with. If you want to play over the whitepawn app you can just start the game, it will create a room and you can invite your friend by qrcode or by link. QR code can be scanned with the app or any other qrcode scanner app.

Hi, when i play online, i can not trust the app. Sometimes i cant play a move. For example i wanted to move my queen, but nothi g happened and my clock keep running. My board was in sync. I dont know its only with me??

I will think about how to compensate this. This makes playing aweful I assume. This should not be the experiance users should have. Sorry !

Because the dgt gets suddenly smart and can play against you. It also lets to play game with other players around the world. This is kinda super powery if u ask me 😋

Hi, I am very exited about this app, but have a question. I have a dgt board with a mini USB connection. And I have different tablets and smartphones. But I don't have cables from my devices to mini usb. Is it possible to connect from my dgt chessboard to my smartphone/tablet via the Dgt Pi?

Hey Stefan, thanks for your comment. I do not have a dgt pi, but i will strongly assume that, the pi inside would not support that. You would need to do some software changes to the pi first, then adding the feature to the app. I think its much easier to just get a cable or adapter. For me it was a USB-A to USB-C Adapter and a MiniUSB to USB-A Cable.

@@stefanvaneylen9488 You are welcome, you cannot connect you iOS device, as the app is not board compatible on iOS Devices yet... You can connect your Huawei tho. You will need a usb-a-female to usb-c-male adapter, actually it was already inside the box on my pixel 5 so, probably huawei also gave you one in the box :).

@@henryschroer3813 Ah yes! I experienced about 0.5 - 1 second slower response times for the bluetooth board. In general the response time is not the best on the dgt :)

@@khadimfall6168 well, ok, haha. I just hacked my DGT Centaur and can emulate DGT Board over usb or bluetooth. One thing I wonder, why your interesting software does not work even over cable on iPad or iPhone. New iPad 2020 has usb-c already. So serial port over usb could work normally. Can I help with that? I might look into some APIs, mostly I like to use Ionic framework for native html5 apps.

@@cyberluke Hey Lukas, nice project! Feel free to update me on further success or contact me if you have any questions. I sadly have to say that you cannot connect anything to iPad with Serial USB-C, as this is forbidden in the iOS Software not hardware. You would need a mfi cergtified device, but DGT Boards are not. Same goes for Bluetooth Classic, Bluetooth Low Energy should work tho :).

@@khadimfall6168 aha, ok. Good thing is that in January there will be a mode to emulate DGT Pegasus board, which is using BLE. So if your app will support Pegasus over BLE, it will work in the end.
