The First American Professional Go/baduk player did their training much the same as you did. Andy Liu was the 1st Certified AGA professional in 2011. His GO ELO is about 3150, which equates to a chess ELO of 2400 or so (Professional Go ELOs are wanky). He got stronger by Playing tons of games online, and in person. He and his elite circle of 7 dan amateur friends would pool money and use it to pay professionals to lecture them every few months. But it was mostly Andy, Stephen Hu, Ben and Will Lockhart, and some others forming a Go club and throwing down over and over again. Andy would do these insane sessions where he'd try to win 40 online games in a row. And they would analyze mistakes too.

"to achieve a goal that many will never achieve," huh? Anyone can reach 2000 online if you just pay enough attention. i don't have any problem with the video, the video is awesome . the thing that bugs me is that people always appreciate their achievement not on it's own merit but on the thought that their will be people who will never achieve the same goal, a way of deriving pleasure by seeing people below you, by seeing them fail. i wouldn't recommend this line of though, just my advice.

This is the best "I watched The Queen's Gambit and I wanted to learn chess" story on the entire internet.

As a content creator myself, I'm absolutely mindblown by the amount of effort gone into the editing of this video?!? The narration was so engaging too, not to mention the impressive climb from 0-2000. Beautiful stuff - keep up the great work :D

I have been playing for 8 years now and I’m rated 1400, I play like one game a week because I’m not really into chess anymore but this video has given me the motivation to start actually taking chess seriously. My goal is 2000 as well, I’ll come back here when I get to it. Cheers.

You do not have to get to 2000 to be a good chess player,1700-1800 is pretty good! and very few even get there!

So refreshing and inspiring to see a young person set a goal, work hard at it, and accomplish it. Your reaction at reaching 2000 said it all. Congrats. By the way, you had "accidental" in the video's title, but there was nothing accidental in accomplishing what you did.

I exactly passed the same journey except I haven't reach 2000 yet. Firstly, long process until 1500-1600, then my elo skyrocketed too from 1650 to 1900. Next I reached 1933, my actual peak and I'm currently fell down to 1820... So your video give me hope ! Congrats !

it's alright, just try to solve more puzzles, learn more about endgames, middlegame tactics, and strengthen your base in openings, i did all of this, and my elo went from 670 to 1089, my peak was 1132, i know it may not seem that big of a number, but trust me, these things helped me a lot

I gave it a look and indeed that's attractive but I feel like I could benefit it more at a level higher than I'm currently at (1350 - still blundering in the middlegame xD ).

It is not easy, but it is definitely obtainable if you have the patience and motivation. I have played for about 2 years and 4 months, and I continously solved tactical puzzles and analyzed by games, now I am 2200

Thoroughly impressed with how you conducted your work. Extremely disciplined, especially when you went through a rough patch where you were losing rating. Being a grandmaster, I know how hard it can be to go through those periods where things are just not working out. Hope to see you continue on this path! ​@@oneofthemones5242 Have you broken into the 1000's yet? I'm not a grandmaster - not even CLOSE - but I am above 1000, so I will just say that in my experience what prevented me from reaching 1000 earlier than I did was hanging pieces, allowing my opponent to do tactics such as fork pieces, etc.

@@oneofthemones5242 We absolutely could, but I've only just hit 1200 a few days ago, so I don't have a very deep understanding of the game. I am only very slightly better than your level. Regardless I'll try my best to tell you if I notice anything. I could also ask my more experienced/smarter/much higher rated than me friend to look at the games (I can't guarantee this since he might say no lol) but if he says yes I'll tell you his insights. I'd prefer unrated since I'm chicken to lose elo if you beat me 🙈🙈 but it's up to you

Glad you mentioned how difficult it is to visualize tactics OTB because for my first tournament it was a pain and I often blundered a position. But the more tournaments I went to the better I got at visualizing tactics OTB. Although I won't dedicate my life to chess, this definitely inspires me to get better.

That's super impressive and quite motivating. I've been caught off guard recently when my once stagnant rating started to climb. I think it's because I have been inadvertently taking your tip of doing one 10 min game per day and analysing it deeply and looking for problems each time. I still bang out the occasional bullet or blitz game, but it's just to warm up ready for the one important rapid game of the day.

This is such a great video. Even including the part about how tilting works was very valuable. Those periods feel like they last forever but they always do come to an end. Amazing video. I have a similar story going from 800 to 1900 (Blitz) in 6 months. Previously, I've only played in clubs and I was one of the worst at university chess club. Now I'm the 4th strongest out of 300 players beating even the #1 Rated who is an FM once. All together it took me around 2 years and 6 months.

@@ajcon3874 I got to 1600 by just watching the big four:- Gotham, Hikaru, Botez and Cramling. However it was not a very fast and/or efficient growth and is mostly for entertainment. Ive heard danya is rly good for accelrating your growth

Your comitment is kind of crazy to me, I have pretty bad ADHD and being this organized and thoughtful about improving is super foreign to me, but inspiring at the same time. Me too. I'm only there by virtue of considerable experience (been playing for about 60 years) rather than intense hard work over a short time. In my younger days of course we didn't have the opportunity to play online and, other than weekly visits to the chess club, hand to work with books which were of course expensive and impossible then to find second-hand; at least the books that we really wanted. Well done, Kamryn. I think your chess career has been truly admirable.

I knew how to play chess before Queen’s Gambit, but, like you, it was the inspiration to take things a bit more seriously. You offer some good suggestions on progressing. I’ve been under 1400 now for like 2 years. I was able to get there quickly but now am just stuck. I’ll give these tips a try. The puzzle rush is a good start. However, some people are just more talented than others. Most will never beat Magnus or get as good as Jordan at basketball, no matter the effort. I might have just hit my ceiling. Regardless you have a new subscriber and fan!
