Whitby Cod Fishing - Uptiding Tactics and Tips
A video for boat anglers visiting Whitby in the winter for some Uptiding/Downtiding fishing. Basic advice and tips to get you going, so you can make the most of your day at sea on Sea Urchin III.
Really sorry about the poor sound quality in parts. The wind was a lot stronger than anticipated. Something I need to work on in the future.

Yea great video mate, you might want to tighten your line after casting for faster bite recognition

@@chrisgosling6129 uptide fishing is all about letting a bow of line out and letting the tide tighten it, if you tighten your line too early you will end up with your lead and bait downtide.

Might be a silly question but can you use a beachcaster for uptide fishing

Hi Jamie Whilst it is physically possible to use a Beach-Casting type rod, they really aren’t ideal for Uptiding, as they are too long. For Uptiding, I like a rod in the 8-9ft range (most Beach-casters are 12-14ft). Using such a long rod, you will be looking up into the sky all day (makes some people poorly). Also, when the boat swings around on the tide, the long rods are bending right over and I’ve seen quite a few snap. I would advise to use the tackle provided on the boat if you’re unsure. My hire tackle consists of Daiwa Super Kenzaki Uptiding Rods and Shimano Aerlex Reels, which are ideal for the job. Regards Andy

Many Thanks for the information much appreciated 👍
Hi, over what type of ground would you use this method for fishing or is it anywhere you can anchor ? Thanks

Hi Robert. You can use a running lead setup for all anchor fishing. Depending on where you are fishing on the boat, you can either fish with a breakaway lead or regular lead. 👍

Cant hear a word at the end but thanks, learned again.
3 in the £ shop for a couple of quid !😂😂
Hi, what reels do you use on these rods?

All my hire rods for wrecking and rough ground have the Penn Warfare 30LW. Great value for money and also a level wind for the less experienced angler. Comes out of gear well when under tension. 👍

Sorry, for Uptiding I use the Daiwa Tournament QDA reels. The quick drag is really useful when the boat starts swinging.

@@whitbywreckandreeffishing thank you for coming back, is these tournament rods any good? I will have trip on your boat next week Never had a chance to do boat fishing, but now looking to get in to it on regular bases and buy my own gear.

@@bl8026 I really rate the Daiwa Tournament Uptide Rods. Plenty of backbone lower in the blank, with a nice progressive tip. Quite a few few people have bought one after having a go with mine. You’re welcome to try it out, if you’re on board Sea Urchin in the future.

Fish can't see? Not sure I or biology agree with you on that one! But interesting to see your setup, thanks.
