Couldn’t agree more with this comment. Well done 👍🏽
A very concise comparison. For a relatively new team this vid goes to show that Chasing Cars have moved to another level. Some more established auto media organisations (both online and print) need to take notice of CC. Well done - just the logistics alone would be a Herculean effort. Top marks
Thank you for this great and neutral test! We have a RAV4 hybrid AWD-i from 2019 full equipped with panoramic roof and heated/ventilated seats. Driving it with around 6L/100km at the moment (winter in Germany, around 0 degrees Celsius, heavy wind at the coast). I think in the summer we will get close to 5L! We are SOOOO in Love with this car. It’s spacious and so comfortable to drive. Our little sun loves the roof and the low Windows to look out. We have 10 year warranty here so until 2029 I am stress free. 🙏🏼😊 Thank you Toyota. To you: keep doing your tests this way, great to watch!
Phenomenal work, Tom and team. I loved the rapid-fire thoughts on different aspects of the cars - you took away a lot of the padding you see in some other reviews and kept our interest the entire time. I think you could have easily filled another 10 or more minutes of riveting content by: 1) elaborating a little on the standout features of the charts; 2) at the end you might have been able to count them down from last to first (admittedly easier said than done) or even from 5 down to 1; and 3) perhaps some closing thoughts on each one. All in all, you’ve really hit it out of the park and my comments are only my unqualified suggestions for minor refinements.
An excellent comparison guys. Very difficult to get substantial information on 11 vehicles into 36 minutes. I appreciated the quick cut editing giving as much narration as could be packed in and clear, smooth camera work. I appreciated the charts which illustrated that you'd really thought of what people want to know and how they want to interact with this information. A small suggestion is to always try to show video of what you are talking about at the time, e.g. the standout seating arrangements of the Honda CR-V. I do realise that doing this all the time can make for a choppy video with less presenter presence. You've got a great formula and you are up there with Australia's highest achievers in car video reviews in my books. Great stuff! P.S. I have an Outback on order and highway road manners, long haul comfort and dirt road capability are important to me, more so than outright performance and your comparison backs up my decision.
Great review- enjoyed the vid. I agree with some other comments here. A full list from 1 to 11 would have been good, noting the worst one which isn't to say that the car is bad, just needs improvement to compete. Also, a run down on each vehicle in summary wouldn't have gone astray.
I watch chasing cars everyday after work. In the market for a new compact SUV and you guys make the best quality, real-world and engaging reviews. Keep up the great work.
Wow you guys are just awesome, what a terrific idea it was to do a video/comparison like this. Hopefully you will do one comparing 10 small SUVs and 10 large SUVs with a wildcard included. Great job and work as always 👏👏👏👏
I have driven VW cars for 47 years . I keep them for 10 years and service them regularly at the dealership. I have never had an issue of reliability with any of my cars.I recently bought what I consider to be my last car a 2022 Taos. I don't expect to have any problems with it as well.
Thank you for the time and effort you guys put in with this. Appreciate it!

Brilliant work guys, well done! As a 2018 CX-5 GT Turbo owner, I'm still happy with my purchase, despite the more recent competition. We've had it for 3 years now and it still brings a smile to my face when I drive it. I find the muscular performance and engaging dynamics appealing, and there's more than enough room in the back seat for my two young kids. If I was looking to buy something in the current market, it would still be one of my top picks as I like the sportier feel. I would also consider the RAV4 due to its sheer all-round competence, although the 12 month wait is off-putting and I find it hard to get too excited about it. The Tiguan 162TSI R-Line nails the brief, but the $60k price tag on the road with option packs unfortunately rules it out for me. I would seriously consider the Escape Vignale, although I can't stand circular gear selectors. Give me a conventional gear selector any day! The Escape does tick a lot of boxes though. I would also check out the Haval H6 as I think it looks good, performs well and offers great value. I'm just not sure how polished its technology and ride/handling are, but they've certainly come a long way. Once again great work on a comprehensive comparison test. It would have been great to see a sound level comparison. Did you get a feel for which cars had the quietest interiors at highway speeds?
@User-cb4jm
2 жыл бұрын
I’m iffy about Havals ride and handling after seeing the way it’s floaty like a boat over bumps in CarExpert (Paul Maric’s) video. I agree the 2.5 Turbo is an excellent engine for the CX-5. I have the regular 2.5 on my Mazda3 GT and the acceleration numbers are about the same (given it weighs less), and I can agree it’s very effortless to merge and overtake without noisily working the engine like most other cars. And Mazda gives you this power without forcing a rough and unforgiving pseudo-sports car suspension on you either.

VW is unreliable. - People who have never owned a VW.
Great job fella's! I would love to see this line up tested again in a few years by AK Morris at Redriven. Lets see how the VW Tiguan fairs for reliability! That is my only concern with the top 3. VW's track record isn't anything to right home about. I would have also liked to see a simple repair/replacement cost comparison for each vehicle. A busted headlight/ taillight OEM replacement cost. We don't always claim on insurance when we have a small bingle in the carpark. Maybe even the cost for things that might need replacing within the warranty period that are not covered, such as Brake pads and Tyres. With 18, 19 and 20" wheels on SUV's. Tyres can be very expensive to replace and even difficult to get in some cases depending on size. Just to help people understand that longer term ownership can get expensive based on brand.

Im on to my 3rd tiguan. I have driven the crap out of my last 2 tiggs. I did add stuff to hardened the chassis and did stage 1 tunes for all my cars. Only issue i truly faced was speed sensors replacements and a failed start stop button. All these happened to my marki but with the 2nd generation tiggs they are a dream to drive and a such a robust vehicle. I use it as a camera vehicle for my work so it's being used like a workhorse. SO far so good! warranty in singapore in 5 years and wear and tear components are included for 3 years. Servicing is also free in SG till 100k mileage. Once you Change the charge pipe, air intake and do a turbo muffler delete on the tiggs you are technically driving a "GTI" like SUV.

As much as I love German car interiors and performance, it’s been proven year after year that Japanese cars statistically kick less of a fuss as the years and kilometres pile up. It’s a shame Euro cars haven’t closed the reliability gap, if they did then there’d be some tough competition. But yea I’d rather be responsible for a Toyota’s maintenance cost after the warranty runs out than a VWs.

Can't argue with the RAV4 being judged the overall winner when everything taken into account but geez it has the most boring /plain interior , when i drove it , it just wasn't a nice place to be for 30 minutes let alone for hours and hours on a road trip . Seats were ordinary at best and just not something you could relax into , hybrid system aside it lacks the tech of some others . @@chasingcars My purchase was the Forester over the Rav 4 and CX5. Cx5 was way too uncomfortable and struggled to see out. The Rav4 rattled too much on typical roads. The non hybrid Rav did not compete well with Forester. The Hybrid was excellent but almost $10,000 more for a vehicle doing the same thing. The Forester windows and feel of being in the landscape enjoying life, did it for me. If Forester gets Toyota's hybrid system, I might consider trading early at the right price.

Outlander (Light grey interior is beautiful - my only con is the lack of power) 4 & 5. Sportage/Tucson (Hard to split - not much to dislike) 6. Escape (Interior a bit behind others) 7. H6 (Huge value for money. I was surprised at its level of comfort. Steering a downfall) 8. CRV (Outdated). 9. Forester (Yes for practicality, no for everything else) 10. My top 3 were Mazda, Toyota and Subaru. I’ve been a Subaru fan for years and I love my ‘01 Liberty. I found the new Forester was exactly utilitarian and underpowered. I was so disappointed the day I drove that car, it was like breaking up with your long-time partner… The CX-5 was next, fantastic car around the city and felt good on the highway. I didn’t like the way it drove up hills though - as in the way it holds a gear to keep power. It revved its guts out and sent a lot of noise through the cabin. The Subaru was similar but had to keep the foot down to keep the speed, and if you got stuck behind a slow vehicle you can just forget getting back up to speed again if your going uphill. The Toyota hybrid zipped around town and held good speed going up hills. The car just didn’t feel rushed either way, and the way it was quiet while sitting at the lights without a stop/start like the petrol engines was soothing. Overtaking going uphill was noisy, but once I was up to speed the engine mellowed out again and there was still power there when I wanted it. I ordered a Toyota, yes infotainment is a bit dated, yes harder to get than an exotic car these days, but as a package it was much more refined. Didn’t test drive the Tiguan which I’m a bit bummed about, but the upfront and ongoing costs scared me off… Once I saw the Kia I was like, damn maybe I should have got one of those… but being a similar price to the Toyota with no hybrid and just flashy tech, I’m not convinced. I’d rather save $$ on fuel than look at a fancy screen.

Test drive the Rav4 and then the Tucson/Sportage diesels and i'm pretty sure where your money would go ..... Interiors , comfort and tech on the twins is far superior to the rav4 ( and with N-line pack you dont get those god awful grey plastic wheel arches which all the others have ) . Only my opinion , but seriously , don't write the twins off .

The Tucson and Sportage did perform well - but there were issues with each. Tucson was held back by its engine/gearbox combination which isn't smooth enough. Sportage had the right engine/gearbox, and a good ride, but the Korean steering tune is stodgy.

@@chasingcars But if you had a Tucson with the diesel engine/gearbox...best combination? Is its steering better than Sportage?

@@cliffordmitchell9497 Yeah I'm looking at the Tucson/Sportage at the moment, leaning towards the Tucson as I think with the n-line pack it is the best looking car in this entire lineup... I can't even start to consider the RAV, as I don't want to spend an hour commuting every day in that interior which is far too basic.

Welcome aboard!
I just bought a 2023 Rav4 hybrid in the US and I couldn't be happier with it. It's just such a great car. Loved the thorough comparisons that you did and I was pleased to see the Rav come out on top. :)
Great video. I am driving a 2022 Subaru Forester. It’s definitely not the most flashiest or fastest but it is a great no non-sense drive for a family car. It gets the job done without adding the novelty of large screens to try to sell the car. And considering it’s cheaper than the top spec rav 4 and Tiguan it’s definitely the best value for money.

Lucky you got the new 2022 with all the new features. Wish we can replace our 2019 Sport but we still love it sooo much...no problems so far...excellent fuel economy, safety features, ride and seat comfort. I don't understand why I'm madly in love with Subaru's no non-sense, unpretentious styling...Love, love Subaru.

Enjoyed watching this segment comparison mega test. You should do one for the next class up (Sorento, Santa Fe, CX-9 etc).
Great show and great compassions... just picked up a Haval, 6 months old, 6500kms for a little over 25ks... there simply is no competition... we have a 2019 Kia sportage which is amazing but the haval is on another level for the price... I’m also not willing to take cheap shots at China when they are simply working hard to essentially provide our nation with great quality at cheaper prices - politics of Australia or China are nothing to boast about either way so... many thanks to the Chinese and their engineering ... can’t wait to c some ‘special’ models a little outside the box ...the Japanese gave us land cruisers Supras and WRX’s , and I’m sure the Chinese will contribute and push the end to the next level...

Taking cheap shots China shows how weak the West has become. Do people criticize Thailand /Mexico/Germany /Korea etc for making cars. Pathetic

How about the resale value?
I find the outback so much more comfortable than the rav4 , there is no comparison there. Also the outback engine is Uber smooth in town and on the freeway, making travel effortless. It’s certainly not underpowered in real life even fully loaded, and probably why that’s the one you see most outside cities for those who need to drive long distances.

We do like the comfort factor of the Outback and it is a great match for country road driving. Subaru should offer the XT here, though.

Great video! Have to admit I’m surprised the forester did so well; I thought it would be surpassed by its outback sibling and others in the segment! I own a 2021 (pre-facelift) forester 2.5 I-S, and it’s a great car all round! Would it be safe to say there’s little difference overall in the pre-facelift and facelifted forester?

Firstly great review by the Chasing Cars team. Invaluable information into the most active segment in the car market. I agree with J M River. I can’t get my head around how the Subaru Forester manages to punch above its weight. The Chasing Cars team are the latest in a line of reviewers to score the Forester quite highly against seemingly more capable opposition. At least on paper. I’m hoping your written review adds some meat to the bones regarding exactly how the Forester won you over in such a competitive field. Keep up the great work and maybe next time do your reviews in a cooler part of the year 🥵

Love the video. Just got my Rav4 Hybrid and love the car! The only gripe I have with it is the cabin is too noisy. A lot of wind and road noise, makes long highway drives less comfortable

Yay I’ve pick the right car 2022 Vw Tiguan R-line thanks for comparison on this car 👍 from USA 🇺🇸
Love the review guys, one small suggestion would be to fit a pram in the boot to see how it fits flat and how much room is left over once the pram is in the cargo space. On another note, the Forrester is such a frustrating vehicle. Amazing visibility and handling but the engine is underpowered and no cargo space to fit a pram flat in the boot. Subaru really need to get with the times, putting new headlights on a car is not "the all new forrester". As a current subaru owner, i will be upgrading to a Toyota or a kia/hyundai
I'm bought the new Tiguan I'm a big fan !
