I’m on my 3rd Mazda… 2 CX5’s with a CX9 in between; I bought the 2013 first year model and now drive ‘21 Grand Touring because I loved it so much. I also had wonderful luck with an early model Honda CRV. I don’t think you can go wrong with Mazda, Honda, or Toyota. My sister loves her Subaru but it seems her repair costs are far higher than mine regarding preventive maintenance and also repairs. Great video! Thank you for helping us make better choices!

Hi, great videos. How would You compare de HRV vs Mazda cx30 and or Toyota Cross. In Mexico the only problem with Toyotas, is that the dealership does not practically sell You the car unless You buy through their own Financer. Thus its easier and more confortable, and receive a better treatment in other dealerships, as Honda, Mazda, Kia, Hyundai, VW, etc. Sticking to my question, between hrv, mazda 30 or cross?, what´s your choice?.

It would be nice if Toyota would do some work on the RAV to make it more enjoyable. Better interior finishes and much less noise. Keep the rustic ones, too for off-roading but some niceness for those who never want an off-roader. Of these I would choose the CC hybrid for the money. Wouldn't pick a non-hybrid even though some nice choices. Also, Lexus UX is a great little urban runaround that is also very comfortable on the highway.

Recently did a lot of research before purchasing a used SUV. My impression after reading numerous articles by mechanics, auto magazines, is that repairing Suberus is more expensive than other SUVs. For that reason, I chose a 2016 Toyota RAV4, because of it's record for reliability, safety, resale value. One of my most important lessons in pre-purchase used car buying is the reliability, operation, structure on any vehicle varies from year to year, and it is wise to become informed about which years to look for, which ones to avoid.

surprised Kia is not on the list. I've bought three new Kia SUV/Crossovers, Sorento, Soltos and Sportage the past 10ish years and 5 KIA's total (two used forte's that were EoL when we got them). Kia is the best brand i've delt with. They got a very bad (and deserved) reputation 20/30 years ago but they are pretty great now. their warranties are hard to beat. If something goes wrong they don't mess around. I've had Ford, Jeep and Cadillac SUVs previously. I find it hard i'd ever go back to any of those brands, at least not new ones.

Went for the 2023 HRV instead of the CRV. Cheaper, the same engineering and a non turbo port injected engine for reliability. I just could not stomach paying almost 50K CDN for a CRV.. The cvt is amazing.. very smooth. People complain it’s slow but in NORMAL mode it has enough power on the highway. ECO mode is slow and I use that in the city to save gas..

Yeah, it's a shame, too. I've owned Ford, GM, and Chrysler vehicles. While quality has improved quite a bit over the years, they still aren't there. They just don't hold up as well. Of course, any vehicle can become problematic, but on the whole, Japan still makes more reliable vehicles. I currently own a Chevy, Honda, Toyota, and Mazda. The Japanese models were all made there. The Chevy is newer and has fewer miles than all, but the Honda, and it has by far required the most repairs. I have to laugh ... our Toyota is 17 years old with well over 200K miles. It looks like hell, dings, scratches, etc, and it is never in the shop, and when it's time to change the oil, it looks almost like fresh oil.

HEAD'S UP on the Forester! I had a Subaru Forester I purchased in 2022 ...until last week. I absolutely loved it! Drives well, sits high, good power, relatively good mileage, lots of interior space for hauling (if I centered a 7ft board over the console, it would fit ... I'm a woodworker). Nice display and fairly easy to figure out features (but I had the model that wasn't fully Bluetooth, so I had to plug in the USB to get Maps) and had a moonroof I didn't want, but it was a 2020 with just over 4k miles and in nearly pristine condition. Until ... My sis and I were starting our vacation and didn't make it out of town before a deer decided to dart across 4 lanes of traffic on a major freeway. We didn't see it until the truck beside us hit the brakes. Then BAM. Just barely enough time to hit our brakes. Totaled the engine compartment. I get crumple zones and I have to say that my sis and I didn't feel much of an impact at all. Airbags didn't deploy (and it seemed weird). But the battery was shoved half way into the engine compartment and the windshield wiper reservoir ended up near the firewall. After about 5 minutes, I noticed that there was flame coming from near the firewall and we smelled fuel. That shouldn't have happened. Car was completely engulfed before Fire got there. We were totally fine and never even sore. Managed to get all of our stuff out too. Just stood there watching it burn and listening to the airbags and tires explode while waiting for the State Police and Fire. Apparently, the Forester seems to have an issue with minor accidents resulting in fires. Having been told this by my ins co., I took their advice and reported the incident to NHSTA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). I gather many of these incidents seem like par for the course with that kind of frontal damage, but I know better. Cars should crumple, but not catch fire. While I LOVED the Forester, I'm a bit hesitant to get another. Just a head's up.

Last year I bought a Forester Touring with the saddle brown leather interior. I looked at the CX50, but I couldn’t get it with tan or brown interior unless I went with the turbo. I looked at the Venza and LOVED it but it has only 1990 gloomy gray or death black interior. I then looked at the RAV4 AWD hybrid. The fit and finish, road noise, comfort and rear visibility were subpar with my 11 Rav 4WD Limited. This is why I chose the Subaru.

Car well maintained and never on long trips except for when car was new and I visited my parents which was a 13 hr drive of which all but a couple or three hours on two lane road was all interstate. What kind of interesting because I also have a 2021 Forester and I find it one of the most annoying vehicles I have ever owned. First, the minute you get into the car the radio comes on which any good mechanic knows you should listen to your engine when you first start driving your car. Second, the eye safety feature makes the car shake constantly when you look quickly checked the left or right so you don't hit somebody. The seatbelt is super annoying because if you don't plug it in even if you just want to pull it 5 ft 4 in into your garage the alarm starts going off and to make matters worse after goes off for a couple seconds and if you don't plug it in then it goes off even louder. Really annoying feature. Lastly, the engine shut-off feature when you're at a stop is Superbad on the car because the number one thing that wears out the starter or starts and stops. They'll try to tell you that it isn't completely stopping the car but I call it the Emperor who wore no clothes. It's obviously shutting off the engine and restarting it. Now at about 50,000 miles the starter is beginning to fail which is going to be a nice chunk of change. I'm not a fan of this car.

I recently purchased a CX-5 Grand Touring in Soul Red. It is a head turner! Everyone comments on what a beautifully designed SUV it is inside and out. It's performance is plenty for me and I really enjoy the Bose sound system for a long road trip. I'm not in love with the Infotainment system that uses a "Commander" knob instead of a touch screen but I'm getting used to it. The seats could have more lumbar support but the seating position is very comfortable. One more thing, the cabin is QUIET. Really quiet. Bordering on luxury level. The fit and finishes are spot on. Overall, I'm in love with this car. Happy I chose this over another oil sucking Subaru. Time will tell how reliable it is but it's history is very promising. Definitely test drive the CX-5 if you are in the market for a small SUV. It's well worth it.

Yesterday for the first time I purchased a new vehicle and not used. I had just purchased a 2019 RAV4 Hybrid Limited with only 20.7 K miles but my mechanic told me I could get a new 2024 RAV4 for about the same price and after additional research I turned the hybrid back in for a full refund and instead purchased a new 2024 RAV4 for actually $3.2 K less that had the features I needed plus better screen tech features (no JBL sound system but no need for a lifetime warranty to cover the 5 yo hybrid battery which saved $3K). Thank you for this video as it confirmed my choice. While I would’ve loved to have purchased a hybrid, in my case, it doesn’t make sense as I only drive about 4K miles per year, and I also learned that may not be good for a hybrid engine in the long run.

I live in West Sussex, England. I saw a 2007 RAV 4 recently in the shopping car park. Spoke to the owner, he bought it new. Almost 16 years old his car. Done 128,000 miles. Regular service. No other unplanned costs. Raved about his RAV. Value for money extrordinaire.

The CX-30 Turbo tops the list here. It has GREAT speed and refinement, nice Bose sound system, very reliable. But there are 2 drawbacks to the CX30. It has a small gas tank, and it is not as spacious as the others.

I just got a CX-30 non turbo, the tank is small but the gas mileage is so good it isn’t as much as an issue as it would be if you have the turbo. The back seat is tiny but I rarely ever have anyone else in the car with me. 99% of the time its just me.

Im looking for a small SUV with good towing capacity. I was disappointed to the see the Chevy Blazer as a top 10 SUV to not buy due to its history with the 3.6L V6 engine. The Subaru Forester looked nice until it was mentioned it sort of does not show strength. What do I get? The Toyota Rav4????

I have owned 2 Honda CRV's now. I bought a 2017, with the "earth dreams" engine. Never had a single issue. I sold it with 130K+ miles for a great price. The replacement was a 2021 Toyota Highlander. Although the Highlander was an awesome vehicle it was overkill for my needs. It got a very good price. I went back to a 2020 Honda CRV. I do not regret it one bit! Honda made some nice upgrades over those years that just make it so much better. I did debate buying the new "Gen" hybrid. The pricing seemed "out of touch", and I did not care for the interior. Now as I see them on the road the exterior also looks less sexy. Regardless, the mpg of the 6th generation CRV with the hybrid setup seemed too expensive for what you get. I have been getting almost the same mileage with my 2020 Honda CRV, and I paid half the price.

Been in the market for something similar and sharing my thoughts if it helps. You could aim for a close to full option of new CX-5/50, Forester, Rouge (2021+), or CPO options for a Highlander or Lexus. And for a non-traditional suggestion, See if you get lucky to find a 2016-17 CPO Cayenne hybrid (hybrid purely for better mpg since the other one has ~20mpg) in that price range. They're phenomenal and outstanding to drive, but would be ideal if you live in a place where a Porsche dealership is accessible. Otherwise it's a no no. Good luck in shopping!

Maybe some of the people in this community can help. I'm currently driving an 07 Altima 2.5 S, 196000 miles. Looking to trade in to something that can meet these requirements. Doesn't need to stay a sedan. - Something that can operate in peak summer and deep winter (I live in the great lakes region, we can get lots of snow) - Something with an interior to accommodate a BIG BOI (6'4" 370lbs, NO MOON ROOFS) - Something 'sport adjacent' (Altima has 170hp and feels quite zippy, I don't wanna dip too far below that if possible) - If used, closer to 100k than 200k miles Looking at around $5-6k down, around 15K for used, or low 20Ks new perhaps. Any recommendations you can provide would be appreciated!

We bought the Lexus UX200, 3 years ago. However, if I was to pick from this group of small SUVs, I would only consider the Toyota Cross Hybrid. It offers so much for so much less, that I wouldn't be able to resist the money saved; knowing I'm getting superlative Toyota quality and resale value. My second choice (not on the list) would be the Lexus UX Hybrid, if you want to go to a more luxurious marque. I do like the Mazda offerings, if you want a more cushioned, less "crisp" handling. However, the entire list contains some really excellent vehicles. Great picks, every one.👍

From Nevada.....own and drive 3 vehicles. 2019 Lexus GX 460, 2021 BMW X3 2.0 Turbo, 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. I would say all my vehicles are great so far. The Lexus and Toyota both made in Japan and the build quality is really good. I use 91 octane premium fuel on all my vehicles. Anyone owing a newer Toyota SUV I highly recommend using premium fuel. With 91 octane I can run the RAV4 Hybrid on Eco mode and it runs fast and smooth and very quiet but slow and loud with 87 octane fuel. Gas is cheaper than an engine replacement in the future. Hope my comments help. Good list and good video upload. 👍👍
