as I recall LGBT originally started as a sort of social revolt against the huge police raid on the gay club Stonewall in 1969 (in June btw, aka "pride month"). There was a lot of homophobia in US government post 1940, and these police crackdowns on gay clubs happened often throughout the 1960s - another notable one being the Fun Lounge police raid in 1964, but the Stonewall police raid was essentially the last straw for the gay community. The people who were raided saw it as an authoritarian government's attack on their untraditional sexuality, and formed activist groups. Tensions grew throughout the 1960s, and essentially exploded after the Stonewall raid, and a movement/protest erupted afterwards. The idea was to show the world that they (gays and lesbians) are not the fringe minority that they are perceived to be. The sheer numbers of people in these initial protests were astounding and was indeed a shock to the widespread culture. I may be wrong but I think the Bs and the Ts were added as a sort of formality, having been under the same umbrella as the gays and lesbians. That is essentially how LGBT began. But it also inadvertently opened the flood gates to other new groups like Queer/Questioning, Asexual (i don't know why that even deserves a name tbh), the "2-spirit" people, and who knows what else now. So it started as a sort of social revolt against authoritarianism, but then it morphed into a movement for anti-traditionalism and basically an attack on pretty much all traditional values, all in the name of Human Rights and equality. The oppressed became the oppressors, and now it's a constant outright war between freedom and tradition. Sorry. i have a bad habit of writing wayyyyy too much

As a gay guy. I've never been to a pride event, and i dont have a pride flag. I am who i am. I've never felt the need to push my sexuality into the public eye. It's personal to me. It has nothing to do with anyone else. That being said, being yourself shouldnt be a death sentence.

Im 52 and life has come along way since i was out, ive never wanted to walk funny or talk funny, it is not who i am,, i am a gay man and am very happy the way the world has changed, i moved away from my town so i could truly be myself without being over looked by friends and relatives, one thing i cant get used to is people wearing a g string and twerking in front of a childs face, this has to stop , it not correct and i never took small steps for it to be ruined by a few drag queens.

i think this story of love is boring, being gay is not just about love between men is about sex. I guess most straight men love their best friends more than they do their wives. It's a single month of seeing some rainbows around a a marginal amount more queer representation (that still pales in comparison to straight rep) and an acronym that has gotten a bit unwieldy. I honestly think anyone peddling the "It's gotten so out of hand!" and "no one knows what's going on!" sort of line is either acting in a bad faith, malicious lie or is monumentally dense. Piers just has a tendency to set up his 'interviews' with someone he agrees with and listens to, then someone who isn't prepared for that sort of energetic debate who he shouts over the entire time. Even by replying here I know I'm just feeding into it, but I honestly don't understand how anyone can enjoy his content, even if you are anti-pride, he's the bottom of the barrel for journalism.

As a bisexual I can say: I don't want a flag, pride or community. I just want to be myself, without being obsessed with my accidental sexual identity. Let's stop with that alphabet-nonsense. I'm only saying it because I want to show in this context when it's about this subject that not all "LGBT-people'' support this way of thinking. It's about LGBT so that's why I say it. If it's about tax-policies, education-debate or climate-debate, I will of course never say "as bisexual, I find..." They just wished that theyre still accepted by it which entire family did... Older one was formerly bi until he met his nowadays husband which is a nice guy. Ive met couple more People of lgbt even a Transgender... It was bit confusing in the beginning but i accepted that. He (formerly a she) just wanted to be called a male name and just "he". He isnt getting *offended* if someone mistakes it and wasnt it either before the transition nor before it was before official that he became a Male. The Instructor for Warehouse Clerks accepted that too along with colleagues. Some already named him by his soon-to-be-name the Instructor not because it wasnt *yet* official and he accepted that as well and in no way offended. He is a good guy gor as long as i know him. Havent seen him since years tho...
