Vibrato is the musical term you're looking for. While the underlying meaning of reverb can apply, in a musical sense reverb is specifically the sound of the room or space that the piece is being performed in whereas vibrato is specifically the shifting of pitch to create a wavy effect. Oh...and that is DEFINITELY what spiraling out looks/sounds/feels like! Welcome to the Tool Army. Look after your brother, question authority, kill your television.

If you like prog metal, consider reacting to Mastodon. They are more riff oriented than Tool but still pretty proggy and they have 2 guitarists and 3 singers. Check out Oblivion from their album Crack the Skye.

You can thank producer David Bottrill for making those vocals and those effects on Maynard's voice. Highly recommend you search out the very underrated, Merkaba from the same album here on KZread and react to that as well. Epic shit.

Music ( the music I really connect with) is very euphoric/psychedelic like a drug. The first time I saw tool live there performance hit me like an acid trip without needing any drugs. And that was on the Ænima tour in the summer of 1998 back before they had the enormous light show that they have now.
