Such BS! He may like the music but it’s a huge disservice to the band to put out videos in mono sound! Why should Tool be so dynamic and put out amazing immersive music and this jughead changes the output to boring mono!?! Still my favorite album of theirs today. The order is different on the vinyl because of song length. That's where this "Holy Trinity" "Holy Grail" "Holy Trilogy" came from. In my digital library I shuffle TOOL quite a bit and so the only thing I messed with... I took Parabol and Parabola and blended them in Logic as one track. I hate when I shuffle and those two don't play together. Otherwise... You put TOOL on shuffle and any order is ok with me. Sure, the older stuff isn't as cohesive as everything from Aenima on... but it's nice to get back to that raw stuff right in the middle of everything else.

The transition from Disposition to Reflection is one of the GOATs. You have to actually pop the CD in and let one song flow into the other (or have a file that combines them). If you chop it up into individual songs you lose the magic of that transition. Lots of fans tell reactors to listen to all three at once because they're basically one long song, but most of the time people pause right at the transitions anyway and lose the magic because they still don't really get the album experience and are still approaching music with the song being the only unit of consumption. Listen to the whole thing in one go!

You're correct.

The vocals on Reflection showed us that Maynard wasn’t willing to just be a vocalist or the lead singer, but a true artist. The delivery of the lyrics, the phrasing is not only brilliant but quite difficult.

He's an instrument in all of his projects. Sometimes you look past the fact that he's singing words. It's another instrument that you're listening to and can be perceived as an instrumental part rather than a lyrical part. But then... there's the lyrical aspect of it too which he's a complete master at.

Adam is a masterful painter, some traces here, some traces there, and then he hits you with solos like Reflection, Parabola, Lateralus, Descending... That is why Adam Jones and David Gilmour are my favorite guitar players.

Going to see them for my 9th time in Feb. Taking my mom with me. Also my brother and his girlfriend but it will be their second time as I just took them to see them at Aftershock in October. Birthday and Christmas is covered for them.

For REFLECTION, You must READ THE LYRICS either before, during or after listening to the song. The lyrics are very powerful. The message in the lyrics regarding our ego and hope for mankind hits me in all the troubling areas of my mind. If this track doesn't make you think about your relationship to everything around us, then I don't know what else to tell you. Another warning track, just like in the lyrics for Descending. Another Masterpiece.

I didn’t fully “get” Triad until i saw it live as as part of the trilogy of songs. Something about them playing this for the crowd was otherworldly and so intense. One of the best things I’ve seen on a stage.

I can completely understand how a person might not like Adam's choice for "overall" guitar tone. But, to me, it is like that damn guitar of his is speaking to each and every one of us listening to the track. And then, you add in Justin's bass arrangement and the incredibly complex, yet musical drum arrangement and ......... FUCK ...... damn glad to be alive in the time of Tool.

Many years ago I was having such a mental breakdown due to many reasons, one of the worst times in my life, and I remember listening to tool's 'Disposition' like a freakin mantra, I listened to it everyday for like 1 or 2 hours minimum at night. I helped me calm my anxiety and the song gives this perspective of ''watch the weather change'', which to me back then meant something like ''just hang on, give it some time, everything changes and shifts and the pain will go away at some point''. Insane level of artistry in this band

I can really relate to that. I've had a very, very similar experience with Disposition recently. Also Parabola (hold on, stay inside... be my reminder that I am not alone)

the first time i heard this album was on a girl i was dating at the time's parent's hifi audio system and this cd was one of the last SACD releases done... so it packs waaaaaaaay more information for hifi than you can hear on ordinary speakers and headphones. hearing reflections positional audio in true 5.1 was breathtaking. The drops were dropping around the room like rain and you get so immersed that your body just starts pulling in the directions of the drops and before you know it you're swaying perfectly to a timing that your mind can barely wrap around and .. bam.. tool :D

Tool's tracking (is that the term?) Of sound position is right up there with Pink Floyd. Close your eyes and let the music paint a picture in your mind!

I have always considered Tool as the Pink Floyd of metal. The way the songs flow together in their own style.

Tool is just god level. It’s not about the notes. It’s the space in between them. The details that you hear something new every single time. The journey as they grew from the EP to current day Fear Inoculum has been incredible. It’s so great you are doing this journey

Here’s what will happen as you continue throughout your Tool journey - as you’ve now come to appreciate their music outside of the “hard rock/metal” aspect (as seen in the way you enjoyed Disposition and Reflection) you’ll later come to not only find that the slow buildups don’t bother you but that you actually truly enjoy them. The farther down the Tool rabbit hole you go, the less it becomes about, “what do I want to hear in this song right now/this is too slow, come on, hurry up” and it becomes more of a passive, “let’s sit back and see what journey they take me on today.” If Disposition or Reflection were your first introduction to Tool, you’d likely have been far more resilient towards discovering more of their music - as opposed to how you’ve now come to appreciate that each song for Tool is like a canvas they’re painting. As an avid Tool ...no.... * Insert rephrase here* Avid Maynard fan, (and newly Polo fan...you kick ass good sir!) I must say that I am fucking stoked to be able to witness your journey through the greatness that is Maynard James Keenan. I have come to learn that no matter how many times you listen to a tool song or one from A Perfect Circle, or even Puscifer they will always speak to you differently in different parts of your life. I can't remember right off the top of my head if you've reacted to this one yet, but if you haven't might I suggest "Passenger" by Deftones ft. Maynard. Hands down one of my favorite songs of all time. Keep up the good work 😁

Reflection is truly magical. It's one that you can really get lost in. Even though I'm not a big lyrics guy (I'm usually here for the music), following along with the lyrics on this one really does take it to another level. Truly a masterpiece.

I got to see TOOL play Triad in 2002 with Mike Patton. Patton and TOOL at the same time playing Triad. It was absolutely amazing.

This entire album is a f*cking masterpiece. I remember when this album came out I was already all in on Tool but their habit of raising the bar over and over for 30 years is unmatched

IMO, in context, Triad has always been the perfect culmination to this album. No words, just the struggle off letting go of your ego personified in an instrumental track.

There are so many Tool songs that are my “favorite”; however, saying that, Reflection is definitely on my Mount Rushmore of Tool songs

In my opinion,reflection is better than Decending but not far off 3rd eye should be the next as it touches deep and its an experince like no other

This is one of those albums I wish I could listen to for the first time again II'm hoping to see tool live someday

I still remember going on my lunch break in high school to go get this album... it's cool seeing someone hear it for the first time after hearing it for the last 20 years.

In my opinion Reflection has some of Maynards most beautiful lyrics. The reflection is of himself and of our relation to everything and everyone and also the literal reflection of the light from the moon. A triple meaning! It starts dark and becomes hopeful in the end. And of course there is the music as well. One of my favorites and I have lots of favorite Tool songs

Reflection is one of the best songs about appreciation for the Sun and Moon. Respect to our celestial companions.

I LOVE the whole Reflection build. It’s so trancelike in the beginning. DC is a drum machine. He plays the same rhythm for most of it…never misses a beat. Was something to behold live. When he sings “and you will come to find…that we are all ONE mind, capable of ALL that’s…imagined and ALL conceivable” , well i can’t say what happens to me…

I had just bought the cd. I saved listening to it until a road trip from Phoenix to Tacoma. It was 6:30 am near Monument Valley when Reflection starts. I was pretty baked as well. That song was the soundtrack to this epic sunrise in the desert. Not a soul around. Good times.

Experiencing these 3 songs in order live back in 2001, 2002 was amazing. The opening act's drummer would come out and play on Triad with Danny. Hearing that live is something I will never forget.

I saw Tool in 2002 in Denver and again in Boulder later that same year. The Trinity was truly an otherworldly experience. Whats crazy is that the live versions of these songs are so much better than the album versions, especially Triad. How can that even be possible?

“Holy trilogy” is a made up tool thing and people take way to seriously.

Reflection is prolly my all time fave. The term that came to mind when describing this music is sacred. Almost like my ears arent worthy to hear it nor my soul to feel it. Potions ,Puscifer, also another fave.

Polk I don't know where you live but Tool WILL come to you and when they do, whatever it takes do not miss that show. It is a life changing religious experience. That's all I can tell you. Keep rocking brother, your Killin it.

The meditational masterpiece. Not sure if its been mentioned before, but the way Tool writes their songs is the music comes first as an instrumental and then Maynard will react to the music to write his lyrics and melodies. Initially the band wrote all 3 tracks (Disposition/Reflection/Triad) as one piece of music/song. "Parabol/Parabola" was also another case on the Lateralus album that was initially one piece of music, but then later indexed into individual tracks for the release.

I still can't believe nobody has requested wings for Marie part 1 and part two

Yeeehh, now you know why we been on you for so long to listen to this triple wonder of orgasmic experience in music. Lateralus, in it's entirety, is one of THE most incredible music productions of all time. Been a TOOL fan since 1993...it's great living vicariously thru someone who is just now discovering who they are to experience the awesomeness all over again!!

Top to bottom, to me, Lateralus is their most spiritual album. There are definitely moments of fury but so much of it feels like a beautiful trance. Such an amazing album.

You're right on with Adam where his creativity and places between him and JC are incredible

So many of their songs also have a tribal feel. Not even just the instruments, but his raw, pure, vocals, and the way he uses them. It all paints such a vivid picture. The four together...😊

I love Tool, but I have a special place for this suite of songs.

i've listened to this album and especially these three tracks countless times! these songs are just so fucking great.

Amazing, so happy you did this one. Definitely take the 4 runner on a long drive to the mountains. All 3 songs fit perfectly together. Disposition would be like heading up the mountain and you see snow flurries, weather changing. At the top of the mountain you see the moon, stars, reflect on your self and decide to make changes in life. Triad, you are ready to head home, charge it down the mountain at full speed, spiral out…🌀🤘

I love following your Tool journey. ❤ The craziest thing is, Lateralus is above all a complete album to be listened from beginning to end. Every song is three times better when heard in its ”right” place in the album. They work so well combined: the pieces fit! (Not saying you’re doing it ’wrong’-music can’t be experienced wrong.) I would definitely join a live event where you would listen through the entirety of Lateralus!

Thank you so much for experiencing the Triad for us. Reflection saved my life during a very dark moment. The lyrics ‘crucify the ego before it’s far too late’ are now tattooed on my forearm as a constant reminder to pull myself up rather than wallow in self pity. Cheers.

I felt the same exact way listening to this when it came out as you did polo. I was blown away. Kept thinking how can this get any better and it does. Over and over. I kept smiling and laughing too like I can't believe what I'm hearing bc it's just so damn good.

Maynard James Kenan is a GENIUS! THE END! No one can top him and his band! They will ALWAYS be my favorite band! I own every album they've done, and been to every single concert they have come to Salt Lake City, Utah! I have loved them since middle school when their album "Opiate" came out, and I'm 46 now! Yep.... People say their favorite songs are things like lateralis, or sober, or whatever, but reflection has got to be their greatest masterpiece of all time. I have a friend that teaches people in a qabalistic school and this is the song that he uses to describe initiation of the subconsciousness to students. It's a fantastic song.

I've always felt they should do a sound track to an intense post apocalyptic sci Fi movie!

These 3 tracks are my favorite to fall asleep too.

Tool is amazing. Music is a mathematical language, but the Fibonacci sequence in Lateralus is pretty genius.

The lyrics to Reflection are very integral to the whole song, both the message and the beautiful word play.

Some things I've noticed in your reactions. You accidentally skip fwd at times when you are intending to rwd. Your 18 minute mark rewind was actually fast forwarded. You inadvertently did it on one other reaction. (I've watched them all) but I know you'll clear it all up in the 4-Runner. Also, I get this impression that you have a Bat Cave of sorts with a ton of black T shirts and Black Adidas ball caps. I envision you having a butler that lays out your "reaction" gear for you, and installs the latest T00L into your 4-Runner for you. Lol. I love it. Keep prying open your third eye.

Hey Polo, great reaction Bro,yes I totally get the Egyptian vibe you mentioned.The beats and timing and the rhythm of this is primal and tribal subtle driving bass lines and haunting guitar work combined with Maynard’s vocals and lyrics that create a sonic landscape that awakens a forgotten memory of a time when Gods walked the earth and the world was filled with magic and mystery a time when humans were infinitely aware and in tune with nature and the world around them striving to understand our place in the universe and giving respect to all things within it! Amazing journey that is Tool!

Make sure and listen in the correct order. Disposition. Reflection. Triad. Also, be ready to simply relax, absorb, and ascend as the songs progress. This is meditation and breakthrough defined.

This is something I think that sadly alot of reactors miss out on. They react to recommended tracks thrown at them by the viewers and they don't really get the experience of the tracks where they're intended to be in a body of work. Like reading a sentance of a book out of context. Tracks can be individually amazing, but in the context of the seamless album, they can be godlike.

Really appreciate you had the patience to listen all of them and good organic reactions 👌Some day take some time off for yourself, lay down on a bed or somewhere nice, put the phones on and listen all of them as a one sequence from the album or spotify example. It is one big trip to your inner space, atleast for me. Tool has that something that wakes up something ancient in your being or dna or how ever you wanna call it. Its more like intuitive than logical understanding that takes place in you when listening to them, dont need even words to kinda understand that universal language and cant put in a words that is happening via sound.

It took me years of listening to Tool to even think of looking up lyrics, i just went along for the ride.

Yes please go in correct order. For a HUGE bonus check out the Danny’s drum cam on Triad. Then you get a real appreciation for what he’s doing.

Gotta listen to them all without stopping and feel the transitions actually hit. Honestly the entire album of Lateralus is composed in this way. But like disposition and reflection that bouncing ball sound at the end is the most perfect Segway to harmonize both tracks. It’s literally magical.

I am glad you got the feel of this right away. At my first listen almost 20 years ago I didn't get it. However, the more I listened to it I understood that (to me) they were trying to open up your mind using a three pronged attack. I get past present and future vibes along with elemental aspects of wind, space and then fire/earth. Like our spiritual journey. The holy trinity is the equivalent to taking audioshrooms and living that existential journey.

The older I get, the more I appreciate this album. Love, love, love this react. Can't wait to see your face melt on Jambi 🤌

YES! The same or very similar vibe I got, which is "Middle Eastern" and very meditative. This music IMO has almost universal appeal. My Tool collection shall grow more and more massive.

These 3 songs... the "Holy Trinity"... are my go to songs when I have to commute to work. It's a 2 to 2-1/2 hr commute each way and it definitely makes the drive easier. Thanks for the great job you're doing on your reactions. Can't wait to hear more Tool!

these three together without stopping tell a story in music form. you have to be patient and just live through every word and note to get the full understanding.

Haven't seen it mentioned alongside all the advice of listening to all back-to-back; they had intended it to be all one song, but the studio didn't think a 24min track would be something people would want/listen to. The initial title was "Resolution". If you combine these 3, and discount "Faaid de Oaid", the album would have 10 tracks, matching the Tree of Sefirot's 10 Spheres of Manifestation, forming the entrance to the world from the Divine realm. And i think that, whether intentional or serendipitous, is beautiful.

I was INCREDIBLY lucky. I got to see this live in 2002 with Mike Patton who was playing with Tomahawk. They all came out during Triad. I’m a lucky man. I’ve seen Tool 4 times. I’ve seen A Perfect Circle once and I’ve seen Puscifer a few months ago. You NEED to react to Puscifer “The Remedy”. Trust me.

Adam does most of the art, as well as the clay animation for all their videos. You have to remember they are in a court battle with their label, so they write strictly for the fans and not radio. Yeah sorry i meant along with the videos using clay animation, and the visual art in the movies. He worked on some films including: Jurassic Park, Batman Returns, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Dances with Wolves, and Ghostbusters II. He did the "Freddy Krueger in the womb" makeup for A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child, as well as work for A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master.

Greatest album ever made 🌀 and Adam is definitely a feel player and an amazing rhythm guitar player, but when he does do leads they are absolutely crushing

I saw this live in Kansas City MO back when they toured for this album…I’ve still not recovered from seeing it in person…it’s tied with when I saw Pnuema live.

This song should make you cry POLO....
