I've watched a few of your videos, and I truly enjoy them. Without the knowledge of rock throughout the ages, it's hard to understand. I watched videos where you were comparing Metallica to Tool, trying to decide which one is better. Remember this, there isn't just metal.... there's about 30-40 genres and sub-genres to metal. For example , Metallica is a HEAVY metal band that actually created a sub-genre of speed metal... in the meantime, Tool is more of an alternative metal with different sub-genres involved...

You're not the only one that has been stunned by this song. Was fortunate to see Right In Two live in Eugene at the Jan 10th show. At the beginning of the show Maynard said "Tonight's going to be flawless" and then he totally messed up his part during the instrumental breakdown of Right In Two. That breakdown is as HARD ROCKING as can be done, especially as a three piece. They played Right in Two, Hooker With A Penis and Descending in that order. The Jan 10 show was the first show after the shutdown. They were at the arena for three night warming up before that show so they had that place dialed in. I was also at the Mar. 11 Portland show that was the last show before the tour was canceled. Descending was also on the set for that show so have seen it live twice I can die a happy man
Maynard's ability to convey the disgust and disappointment in society and in himself through his vocals is unparalleled, and it's what makes the music so powerful. Very few singers have that talent.

For years and years, us Tool fans tried (in vain, mostly) to convey how badass they are to people who didn't listen to them. Enter the reaction channel phenomena. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE watching people discover this truly amazing band. 10,000 Days is my favorite album, with Aenima coming in a close second. yup and yup! i was thinking the same. it's better that he isn't louder because you can hear every other part AND it's not about him only. like the person above me said he's just another part of the music, perfectly in tune with the other instruments, which is how bands should work imo. too many bands are centered around the vocalist to where you have to work to hear the other instruments (an example is evanescence, amy's voice is so beautiful and loud that i didn't realize how great the guitars/drums were)
the vocals are "just" another instrument in their arrangements as they blend in with the other goodness, perfect for me.

I couldn't agree more. Thirty years into this band makes it difficult to remember hearing each song for the first time...
Maynard and the rest of Tool are firm believers in the idea that the Vocals are just another instrument that you combine with the other instruments to form a whole piece of music. They do form unique music as a result of this, which is only helped by how talented every member of the band is by themselves.

That is so very well said. I'm also finding that now, in my 40's, the songs are taking on a new meaning.
1:59 That subtle pull-away that you do is one of those amazing physical reactions caused by a lot of Tool songs. It's like they trigger an initial primal fight-or-flight instinct, and that's what ultimately draws you in
This album is just loaded with gold. Vicarious, Jambi, The Pot, Right In Two, Wings For Marie Pt. II, Rosetta Stoned. I especially like the jump from album to album in terms of messaging. Lateralus was just a tour de force of occultism and "magic" while this album takes a very spiritual look at the world and those of us in it. What's more is that every album seems to be another coming out party in terms of arrangement, ability, technique...just when you think they've outdone themselves, they just load back up and say "Nope. You've not heard it yet, so we're going to just step it up". Truly remarkable band.

That "unorthodox beat" is happening because they are playing in odd time 99% of ocidental (and popular) songs are in a 4/4 beat, that we're used to listen This song is in 5/4 time, and gives a sense that it's missing a beat when they get back to 1.

Please do Parabol/Parabola or Jambi. 2 of my favorites!
You know the song is good when you basically go through it twice during one listen. Every part is a rewind. This is kind of an underrated Tool song, and I use the term "underrated" relatively, within Tool's own catalog. It's just that they have so many great ones that I gravitate toward for one reason or another, but then each time I come back to this one I can get blown away all over again. Just a straight up monster from start to finish. Up next is... pretty much any other Tool song. But seriously other tracks from Aenima - Stinkfist, Eulogy; Lateralus - The Grudge, The Patient, Schism; 10,000 Days - Right in Two, Rosetta Stoned; Fear Innoculum - 7empest; even on Undertow every other song is a great, more straight-up rocker. It really is almost pointless to list tracks. People constantly make ranking lists or videos. Could anyone that listens to Tool do a top 10 or top 20 songs, without destroying their brain in the process?

@@bwaredapenguin That's why I called it relatively underrated, within Tool's own catalog. Typically among Tool fans, something from Aenema or Lateralus will get the most love. Or more recently, songs from Fear Inoculum get more attention. As far as their known, mainstream tracks, people will probably think of Sober, Schism, The Pot, Stinkfist, or 46 & 2 first. I think Vicarious is perhaps the catchiest of them all with some of the best riffs and hooks. And yet, it is also fairly complex with the time changes and complex arrangements. It's a hard thing to do to make something catchy and complex at the same time. Hence why I called it relatively underrated. It's definitely not a song people are not aware of. I'm claiming it deserves more love.
Wait until you hear THE GRUDGE. The entire lyrics and meaning and the music... it's one of those that will jump to #1 on your list on the first listen. But most songs are like that with this band. You'll have a new favorite every other week, even knowing and having heard them all.
The beauty of Tool synergy is Maynard lets the band play their song with instruments and he comes behind them singing lyrics he feels synergizes with the song. It really is great.

Going to join in with the people who are recommending Right in Two, that is a song that will absolutely move you musically and lyrically.
I'm OGT back from '92, from the first EP (pre sell out 😉). Lucky to have seen them twice in concert so far. I can't really say I have a fav TOOL song as it depends on my mood and so many to pick but this one was always in heavy rotation on my playlist. Thanks for falling down the rabbit hole, enjoy watching your reactions.

@@djmir4 shame the ticket prices have skyrocketed. I saw them 3 times back in the late 90s/early 2000s, amazing live. Deff worth seeing live for anyone that hasn't!
It is hard for me to pick a favorite song by Tool but this is definitely one of them. They are all amazing but the drums are crazy good.
I'm sure this has already been said... It's impossible to pick a favorite song from Tool ( if you're a die hard fan). You'll have favorites that you'll listen to for a while, then you'll move on to your other favorites. When band has so many masterpieces I feel like it's incredibly hard to pick one song that's your favorite and that's what sets them apart. Side note: congrats on the car. I've always been a BMW Girl but now, I've also been wanting a 4 runner ( TRD Pro).
So glad you loved this beauty so much. Tool is a true powerhouse but some of the work just hits so hard and is simply so impressive it can take a while to even pick your jaw up off the floor. Always a pleasure and my sincerest gratitude as ever for letting us ride along on this journey with you!!

It is the greatest band ever, couldn't agree more with you. There's still a ton left you haven't heard yet that's gonna blow your mind. Eulogy, Parabola, jambi, the grudge, ticks and leaches. The list goes on
Tool most underrated rock band
Your 4 Runner anecdote at the end is hilarious!! We Tool fans can absolutely relate.
If you get the chance go see them live…..Danny’s drums feel like they’re coming out of your body man…you feel them in your bones

No shit, huh?!?!? After seeing them 15 times now ( 3 of those in Europe as well ), I will totally say that you GOTTA see them live too!!!! And, please, by no means don’t not go just cuz you’re a black man or whatever. 😜 There are plenty that go to shows as well. Although, you’d be in the minority, you MAY just get your “street cred” up a notch or 2.
This is the MOST appropriate reaction. I really appreciate your honest and meaningful reaction to what I believe is an impactful song. Love ya, bro Also, my dude, how are you so humble?? Thanks for being a good human. This video started as a cool, entertaining reaction to a good song, and ended up being a pretty profound thing. You're so genuine and chill, and I really appreciate that. Kudos, thank you, keep it up, etc. For real.
Obviously late to the reaction here, just came across this in my feed somehow. But yeah man, this kind of reaction, to what is probably my favorite band, just brings a giant smile to my face. I'm glad people are still falling in love with Tool. When you said it's making you fall in love with music again, I was like "HE GETS IT!" and the fact that it takes you like a half hour to get through it because of the sheer amazement and joy doesn't bother me at all. Because I get it man. It IS transcending, soak it in. I'm so glad Tool got their hooks in you. You'll never get rid of them. The singing, the guitar, the bass, and OBVIOUSLY THE DRUMMING. Just insane perfection. And I've been listening to them and learning how to play their songs since the mid 90s. Yet still people can discover them and get sucked right in just like you. Welcome to the club my friend, all are welcome. Also glad you got into Sevendust as well. Tool n Sevendust are right towards the top for me so again, great to see them get the appreciation they deserve. And yeah watch your speed while you drive to these guys, they're directly responsible for the bulk of my speeding tickets as a teenager. 😂
It's amazing to see someone else's genuine reaction to music that you love. This is definitely up there with one of my favourite Tool songs, but my favourites keep changing too! Please check out Eulogy, nobody ever reacts to that one and it's awesome.

The spiritual experience that comes with listening to Tool is so natural but obscure at once. The way the story flows through my ears into my consciousness allows me to see an everyday event from a new lens. Like someone seeing the ocean for the first time
Maynard sees his voice as just another instrument when it comes to Tool… it’s one of the reasons he’s back in the mix (and stands back by Danny behind Justin and Adam on stage)… it’s part of the uniqueness of the band. His lyrics and vocals are not to be dismissed and I’m glad you see/hear that

Yeah I saw A Perfect Circle back in 2001 in Pensacola Florida. Bayfront Auditorium. He was out front but he kept huis back to the audience the whole time. Another trip was he had the spine tattoo on his back and wore a beanie. It’s a small venue so bad ass show.
That’s the beauty of a tool song man. You interpret it in your own way and it’s always an epic journey. Rock on 🤘🏽
Still remember leaving the record store when it released in 2006, popping it into my CD player in the car, and this hit me. Its still growing on me and one of my favorites. This and Right in Two (and so many more). Been waiting for you to drop this one. As many have noted, there is something about us older fans seeing people listen for the first time to this band is awesome. It is truly the only band I love introducing to people. Regarding emotion, I feel the same about The Humbling River by Maynards other band Puscifer.

Interesting story about this song, when I was in the Army, I worked on the Apache helicopter, and we were about to leave for a training exercise. So to get us hyped about what we were doing, the command decided to show us va montage of kills by Apaches from previous deployments. This montage had Pumped Up Kicks by Foster The People and Vicarious by Tool play over it. So I was sitting in the briefing room watching enemy combatants try to “outrun the gun” of the Apache and I was also watching them “die from a good safe distance” as were the pilots when they did it. It was about this time that I began to realize just how sick the Army is and the mindset that it promotes. I got out as soon as my contract ended after that. I felt wrong being the person that loaded and armed the ammunition into the Apache.

@@keithkinkade4265 I never thought about that before but that’s a great way to put it. It certainly sparked some introspection at that moment, especially since it was so obvious that both of those songs were criticisms, and seeing them layered over actual people dying on camera, it was sickening. Also, the cognitive dissonance to use those songs simply because they were about killing people was mind blowing to me. Peace be with you as well.

Your reactions to the Tool songs are the best. The insight, the analysis, the ability to stop the video and comment exactly at the right time, without ever spoiling the musical flow! Bravissimo, from an old time Italian Tool fan!
Maynard is an instrument himself. His inflection, arrangement, structure - you almost need separate sheet music to track everything he is doing. He is one of the very few singers who can accomplish that. Another singer who achieves that is Dan Kelly from Fortunate Youth.

it's actually not hard lol maynard sings very primal, its unique because its his voice, but if you have a decent understanding of how to breathe when singing, listening to maynard and then mimicking him isn't too hard, esp as a female
You're awesome bro and funny. Love how transparent you are, we can see you blushing. We've heard these songs a "million" times. We're here for you. Keep on truckin'. ✌️
I think a lot of us get to the point where there is no longer a favorite Tool song, it becomes impossible after many years of listening.. similarly many of us can't even choose a fav album because each has so much meaning across different eras of life etc.. It's hard to put into words to other people that aren't aware how special they are, you have to just listen enough to get it, and once you do there is no going back. This is the reason they are one of the very few bands from the era they started in that are still going, and even stronger than ever. Great vid man, love these!
Dude, hearing you say Tool is the greatest band ever gives me a warm fuzzy feeling all over! It's like magic watching you hear my favorite songs for the first time!
I been listening to Tool since the early 90s and it took me many years to really realize how damn great they are. They were really rough and raw in their early days and damn did they mature bigtime. Really love these guys. Glad to see others appreciate them. Enjoy!
Absolutely love your reactions to Tool. A friend tried to get me into them back in 2001, but I struggled. Then we went to Ozzfest at Donington in 2002 and I saw Tool live for the first time. They blew me away and I have loved them ever since. I have been trying to get my son to listen to them for the last couple years but I struggled. So I just bought us both tickets to see them back in May 2022 (stunning show) and now he loves them as well. Polo, you must catch them live - they will bring you to your knees. Please check out Schism, Stinkfist, or Right in Two soon.

Tool reactions are how I got into reaction channels and I've found some of my new favorite bands through it. Keep it up....
My personal reason for watching your reaction videos to tool is because I love watching new tool fans being born. It brings me back to recapturing those first emotions I experienced when I first listened to them all those years ago. It also just personally validates how great I always told people this band is and seeing people stumble upon them and experience it for the first time is just a joy because you are so lucky in a sense that this is all new to you
Your reactions to Tool always make me smile. And the build on this song is unbelievable. Thanks for enjoying it!
Probably my fav tool song. I've heard it so many times and every time it just gives me the chills.
Dude, I LOVE your reactions; including the stops. Your honest reaction and your enthusiasm for music sell your channel. Don’t change a thing.
I went to see Tool live in 2019 just for this song and parabol/parabola. Vicarious was MY personal favorite for a VERY long time. Best concert I've ever been to. Full stop. If you EVER get a chance to see them live, DO NOT even think about it....GO. It's life changing.
I absolutely love your reactions! I love it when you pause to give us how you feel about what you are listening to. Tool is mind blowing! My 1st. Time watching Tool live felt like it was on a spiritual level, not of this Earth. Do yourself a favor and go see them live. Absolutely amazing!
Please do Right in Two. You won’t regret it!
Tool songs are so intricate and well planned. They are incredible. Especially live. They sound just like the album.
I come back to this reaction when im feeling a bit down, not just for Tool, or Vicarious, but for the reaction from you Polo.. it makes me happy watching you go through a transition i bet you never thought was possible.. Thank you Polo, you are the epitome of what we all want, an open minded coming together of great minds and understanding.
Totally agree, I just love this song, I can’t get it out of my head
This was my first time hearing this song by Tool too. I rewound parts of it as many times, if not more, than you did, Polo. And then I got the bonus extra rewind from you! 😂 I’m gaining a whole new respect for Tool. I know a lot of their more popular songs from the radio when I was growing up, but I don’t think I ever really appreciated their artistic genius. I was just too young. I have to thank you for bringing me back to Tool as an adult. They are just. Wow.

Keep these reactions coming man. As a TOOL fan for about 25 years I can tell you it's really, really hard to settle on just one favorite. My long standing top of my list is Third Eye, but Descending is a close second. I highly recommend going to see them live if you get the opportunity. They put on some of the best shows I've ever seen in my life.
You react to Tool in the most appropriate way. Love it. This shit is worthy of every rewind, replay, pause over and over again. I've been listening to all their stuff since it's come out... to this day it's never come close to old or irrelevant.
Thank you Polo. Your reactions are beautiful. I love how you are discovery Tool for their brilliance ✌🏽❤️
Hey man, your enthusiasm and excitement for these jams is awesome. That kind of passion is _exactly_ why the audience loves watching these kinds of videos. It's really fuckin cool to share in that love of music with people, and to see them discover and get jolted by the shit we've all been loving and jamming out to. This video was fun af o7
so glad you like this song that much...I always thought this was one of their more underappreciated tracks, and the fact that it was the lead track of this album makes it even more powerful. Keep it up, can't wait to hear the next one. ps: more A Perfect Circle would be great as well

Bro, I felt exactly the same thing when I first discovered Tool; like listening to music for the first time.
they formed when I was in high-school, saw them live for first time in '97. In my opinion. Noone has come close to their amazing musicality and talent. So many layers of intricate playing, that only comes from years of playing together. Also, ive been to about 70 or so concerts in my life, amd hands down, the best band I've ever seen live. I feel so grateful to have had them around, their music has gotten me through a lot of tough times. TRUE LEGENDS
Always been one of my favorite Tool songs. Between Lateralus and 10000 days, the period between albums had been so long you started to wonder if Tool still had it. Then they opened the album with this and blew my face off again. They never ever ever disappoint.
I've been obsessed with TOOLs for about 15 years now. Sometimes I try to listen to something else but after a few days I have to go back to them. Trust me... After a long time I still notice something new almost every time I listen to them with headphones and I don't understand how it's possible. Other than that, I'm sure many have already told you this, but with TOOL it's not possible to tell which is your favorite song. Obviously I don't like them all in the same way but my favorite is always the one I'm listening to at that moment among my 15/20 favorite songs. In the end I gave up trying and if I really had to rank it I'd do it between 3 levels of greatness plus a fourth level of good songs and another one where I'd put some interludes that aren't real songs. In time you will understand. And remember that whenever you can, headphones are better than the car.
Just found your channel and I really enjoy your reactions. Tool is a top 3 band of all time to me. I can’t fathom how someone doesn’t get impressed by a Tool song. Every song emits so much emotion for me. One of the best bands ever.
easily in the top 5 best Tool songs! It brings me so much happiness to watch others get turned on to Tool. Best band every created is absolutely right! Just the skill alone of each and every member never ceases to amaze me! Welcome to the army Polo!
