Don’t worry about the pauses. We Tool fans know what’s coming, and know that you will pretty much always be blown away the more a Tool song goes on. It’s inevitable. Just enjoy it. The good thing is, you back it up enough so you don’t miss transitions and stuff. So don’t worry about the pauses. Keep going on Tool. If I had a suggestion for a tool song, I’d say The Grudge….simply for Danny’s drumming at the end…and one of the longest screams you’ll hear by Maynard.

One of the best examples of Maynard's humour I've seen in a TooL song was in Hooker with a Penis. The young, freshly tattooed, arrogant young guy comes in and sneers at Maynard that he "sold out", and Maynard being like "son, I sold my soul to make a record and you bought one, so BUY BUY BUY", and you realise the eponymous hooker with a penis is Maynard himself 😂 Cracked me up!

Together with Adam Jones' grungy riffs and incredible experimental leads, as well as Maynard's half poetic, half satiric (and 100% sublime) lyricism and breath taking vocal performances, Tool is bound to go down as one of the late 20th century/early 21th century most influental bands.

TOOL is one of the very few bands that gets me emotional. That could be sadness, happiness, retrospection, introspection, fear, bravery, calmness or anger. They hit a different kind of nerve than any other band that I listen to regularly. Listening to an album from start to finish is more like a journey or experience than strictly just listening to music. Is TOOL for everyone? No. However, if you allow yourself to get lost in the experience it can have a profound effect on you. It's like it was conjured up specifically just for me. Continue this journey if you like what you've heard so far. Subbed and liked for future content. Keep up the great work.

Agreed. I saw Tool live nearly 30 years ago and I’ll never forget the feeling of experiencing them live. Beyond the obvious(they were amazing) it was the closest I’ve ever felt to what I imagine being in a place of pure chaos is and that anything could happen. Tool , but Maynard specifically, have this ability to tap into the most primal emotions. It scared the shit out of me. Somehow they brought us right to the edge of madness but wouldn’t push us over

@@ohgeereadmore I absolutely agree. They're all immensely talented. That being said, Maynard is the one who steers the ship for me. He can take into serene and calm waters or headfirst into a tidal wave. I just can't think of another band that can bypass my conscience mind and tap into something subconscious that I wasn't aware of prior. Not everyone will understand but those that do know that feeling of overwhelming emotions that can occur. Tool is more than just a "band". At least they are for me.

Welcome to one of the greatest bands ever. Yes Tool is truly mindblowing. It's been over 20 years since I first discovered them and since never left me. Danny Carey, the drummer, was the reason I started to play the drums, what an inspiration. They all are masters at their instruments and singer Maynard J. Keenan is a true poet at writing the lyrics and has an excellent, unique voice. Everything comes together and the result is an amazing musical experience. Also a must see live band. I burned him a full 70 minute CD of just tool songs that were 5 minutes or longer. After one play through he became a diehard Tool fan (more so than I am) and that disk became a mainstay of the warehouse music list. Tool is thee antithesis of music in modern times. They use techniques from around the world and are ALL the most professional in their areas. The way the construct their songs is beyond amazing. Like you noticed, they build their songs up over the entire song. EVERYTHING has a purpose and a place and a reason for why they did what they did at that moment in the song and every song they do. Not EVERY song they’ve made is amazing to ME but trust me when I say, GO DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE, you won’t be disappointed.

The song is actually about hypocrisy (The pot calling the kettle black), but has nothing to do with drugs outside of the double entendre . The line "You must have been high" is referencing someone thinking they are high and mighty, when in reality, they are no different or better than the person they're judging. A lot of the subject matter was derived from things they had to deal with while going through a lawsuit with their record label. The sound you were questioning in the instrumental section is the bass with distortion & a wah wah pedal.
