Awesome data comparison and enjoy the insight! My guess would be 'use both' .. but the descriptions as to why ones better over another - is valuable. ✔️

i loved the spreadsheet approach to this! it made me think: what is the MOST valuable spotify metric? which metrics are the ones most worth pursuing, in general? clearly some metrics are downstream of others, no pun intended... would love to see you do a breakdown! (and definitely link me if you already have 👍🏻)

Thanks for this breakdown Ryan. Would love to know more about Spotify Algorithmic playlists- what are the right actions to take, on and off the platform, to land on these playlists?

Great question!! I'm seeing that having a lot of activity on Instagram Reels, and TikTok can help trigger the algorithm. But this needs to be in addition to actually getting a lot of streams on Spotify itself. If you don't have a lot of streams on Spotify, then Spotify won't know how to categorize your music in the algorithm. So this is honestly the most important factor-lots of streams. A great Social Media strategy paired with Playlisting (so you get streams data) is a good combo to trigger the algorithm.

Hey! In this video, you say that playlist promotion is the easiest, most black and white way to go regarding maintenance, by getting and keeping your songs on playlists. But, my concern is what happens when the artist reaches the promised number of streams? My understanding is that when the desired number of streams is reached, the artist will suddenly be removed from the playlist. I am concerned about how that will look for an artist to go from a healthy number of daily and monthly streams back down to a small number. In this video you say that once you are on a playlist, you stay there, but it does not seem to be that way when using playlist promotion. Can you clarify this a little for me? Thank you. I really appreciate all of your content.

You are correct that songs get removed from playlists. This happens even with Editorial Playlists, Algorithmic Playlists, and 3rd party lists. The same goes with Facebook ads-once you turn the Ad "off" then you're not going to get the streams that you were getting prior from that ad. Is this concerning? Not if you realize that you don't "own" the audience of that playlist/Facebook ad... you are simply accessing it for a short period of time (borrowing the audience is the best way to think of influencer marketing). The big mistake some artists make is thinking that once you're on that playlist, your streams will be high forever. Nothing is ever as simple as paying a little bit of money, and you are instantly successful. False. The *source of traffic* is external from your music brand. As you promote more, you will eventually become your own *source of traffic* as you build your profiles, accounts, mailing list, and fanbase as a whole. But in the beginning you need to pay to access someone else's audience to get visibility. AKA playlisting and advertising. Let me know if this all makes sense!

@@IndieMusicAcademy artists won’t even own there own fans from there personal source traffic. What you actually explained is true, I’m not trying to make myself an expert at digital marketing or that I know more than you at marketing. However, removing the songs from playlists after a short period of time, it’s a bad thing. Let’s say the songs can stay for 1 year period, and than removed from the playlist, that is fine, not an issue. Anyway, you’re a great marketer. Best Dan

A shame the curators you submit to wouldn't place our first choice song, or the 6 others we submitted to you guys as back ups. I am glad you guys issued the refund quickly after I requested it. So far the FB/Instagram ads are working out enough. We have a 50 percent conversion from those who click our ad link and then click the Spotify link on our landing page. Perhaps I'll try playslist services again with our next single which is a bit more commercial electro rock.
