I’m sure she was saying that as a way to prove to Simon that she doesn’t think her kid is good because she’s just biased, She’s trying to say that since she was in a choir she “knows” music and musical talent. So her opinion of her daughter’s ability isn’t being judged thru rose colored glasses, but thru the lens of her own musical training and knowledge.

Self confidence is a thing and having talent is another. And people should be really aware of the high level of the contest. And people around them too. You can sing ok, but it doesn't mean you are good enough to become a pop star, or a recording artist. It's a big big world. And when experts, experimented and professionnal people in the business tell you "you are not good enough" or "you need to work more" and so on, you just have to accept it, and people around you too.

Also these "talent" shows are looking for certain kinds of people. Many of the singers that get through to the finals and even win, aren't that special. If you really want to make it big, do it the hard way - take lessons, perform with other musicians and get a tonne of gigs under your belt. That way you will learn a great deal and if you do make it you'll be able to have more control over your musical output.

Parents be real to your child. If you do not get them vocal lessons. And you tell them, you sound awesome. You're the best. You're lying. If they like to sing. And they want to. It's very important to get them voice lessons. That they work on their voice. If anyone feels bad for these individuals. Sorry that's life. There are people that work really hard to be good at something. Yes there are some that are wonderful natural born singers. And please for the life of you. Learn how to interact with people. Confidence is key. But parents you are doing these children disservices and even that adult. She must be special to think that she sounded good. I almost wonder if they pay these people. But they're disheartment seems so real. Y'all need to get a grip. And work hard if you really want something. Some of us have to work hard at something. Be honest with your kids or invest in their dreams.

It's always nice to say something like, "I see you have potential and passion to make something great" and then encourage them to get professional training. Explain how it's fundamental for all signers to start a career. Often in training, they'll find out there that they aren't meant for it. Easier way rather than be embarrassed on television like this.

I loved watching Edna put Simon in place. Even to this day, it makes me laugh like a drain. I'm no fashion expert and I wouldn't know how to describe Emma's dress, but, it just didn't look right on her in my opinion. Whether it's a friend, a family member or anyone else, Emma should have been told that she couldn't sing. Same with Kelly. She should never, ever, ever have been encouraged to believe she can sing and has the X Factor. I use to lie alot when I was growing up and after a long time, I came to my sense and realised that lying doesn't do anything except makes things worse.

There is a fundamentally broken link in the required feedback between their mouth and what they hear it doing. Anyone that tells you different is straight up *lying* to you. I just happen to be able to carry one, I have the feedback, I'm just no good at controlling the cords. That's the last girl as well. In theory, yes the rest can be taught and practiced out.
