I know it’s sad what happened to her step-sister but to be honest i felt some part of me saying she deserved her karma but not death. Felt like she should’ve told those at her step-dads company what he did to her and let them know he was an abuser. That would have ruined his reputation forever. I’m glad OP made it through all that. They're the type of parents who can't see beyond themselves and lack empathy. They either assume that because their life is the way they want it, everyone else has emotionally fallen into line and is just as pleased as the parents are, and they don't WANT to think one of their kids might not be on the same page. The mother was selfish as hell, and it's scary to think how many of them there are out there.

This feels like a rejected Lifetime movie script with all the cliche tropes. The "parent gets divorced and remarries to rich guy", the mother becoming the mother from Cinderella, the "getting SA'd by a family member", the "MC starting a new life from scratch after she was disowned", the "entitled/narc parent gets karma and life goes downhill and they run to their estranged children for handouts". And the cherry of the top, "mom divorced dad and alienated him from me". Falling in love with your psychiatrist is pretty new (but tbf she wasn't officially his client). That would break a lot of people, no one I know would be able to maintain their grades after going through that. There is also not one mention of self harm, so this person apparently has a will of vibranium. She dated her psychologist. No professional would date someone who is effectively their patient. Her dad shows up once and is never mentioned again. Also it’s just so convenient that her step brother was in Chicago and they happened to run into each other.

Based on my own experiences, I can affirm that even when someone gives you an unsettling feeling, if they're the only one in your life saying things that no one else does, it can lead you to believe they truly care. Unfortunately, my own experiences have shown otherwise. I'll never forget how my best friend's older brother used a dog to manipulate me, fully aware of how to draw me away. The same occurred with my grandfather; he knew how to exploit my trust. For years, I carried the burden of blaming myself, wondering why I went along when I sensed something was wrong and felt uncomfortable.

@@corvuselizabeth9747 Uh...i don't know, I'm not the type to stick around someone if i feel like something's off about them, no matter how much in a bad situation I'm in, you can't trust others to help you unless explicitly proven otherwise, i learned this extremely young, be aware of your situation and surroundings before you go around trusting others, if you're in a bad situation the chances that you will be taken advantage of are higher than people helping you, especially if you feel like something's off about the person. A real example about this for me which isn't as life threatening for myself but still proves how one should trust their instincts is the guy i used to cut my hair with. He gave off some really weird vibes, like everytime i was around him it felt weird, he treated me alright and same goes for everyone around the barber shop but it later turned out he molested his 15 year old niece, some guys in the barber shop wanted to end him, but well, it explained to me why i felt a certain type of way whenever i looked into his eyes. We humans literally evolved this type of "6th sense" to determine if we were in danger or not, if something felt off about a place, 9 times out of 10 it's because there indeed was a tiger hiding in the bushes.

Same reason abused women often end up going back to the person who abused them--they think there's no one else. And this guy was the only one giving the OP attention and "helping" her. When you can't put your finger on what is so unsettling, it's easy to dismiss it when so much else is going on. He was around often enough that it wasn't suspicious and his actions would've looked benign enough to anyone looking in, until the end. You end up either paranoid that something is wrong or only with hindsight catch the red flags. But there have been women throughout history who don't want to ruffle their comfortable nests and will sell their children's safety and well-being down river, even their own flesh and blood daughters (while blaming them for any trouble that creeps up in the marriage and participating in the abuse). This is where that "blame the other woman and not the cheating husband" crap has come from and why it still persists, though we should know better that it takes 2 to tango, and sometimes one of them was not willing.

Honestly, here's my take on these stories, I treat them all as fiction, and in my opinion it's easier to enjoy them that way. You don't have to be pointing out every single detail if you just accept that it's fiction. A lot of these are genuinely entertaining stories. Like who cares if that one aunt from the tumblr post actually had those cards she rolled out, it's funny.

Please if you want to make a fake story stop using the typical: "Mom and dad got divorced, I lived with mom and my step family, they're bad people, mom bad, I got SAED, they kicked me out, I somehow did good, then theyre in a bad situation, mom comes back to me because she needs something, I laugh, I tell her fuck off, and then everyone clapped''
