This is a well known Reddit story and is a few years old, but it still breaks my heart every time I hear it. OOP was failed and abandoned by everyone who was supposed to love her unconditionally. The introverted nerds are the real safe option. Knowing every obscure detail of Warhammer lore does not mix with being a fuckboy at all, which means a guy like that couldn't cheat if he wanted. Which he doesn't want because you're the first woman to give him a chance in probably years, and the fact you keep giving him chance each morning is a gift he'll be forever thankful for. Trust me, I am him, and when my girlfriend asked me to tell her 40k lore I was almost as happy as when she said yes and became my fiance. Narcissism or main-character syndrome. They think everything revolves around them and that they can do no wrong even when they do and that people should bend over backwards to simply get to talk to them let alone be related/in a relationship with them, so when that doesn't go their way and people stop enabling them, they act like victims, fake apologies, just sink to an entire new low. These people tend to either have some kind of mental disorder or are made by parents during their childhood and have had no-one cause reality to hit them.

Wtf was wrong with that father? Firstly he didn't let her live her teenage years peacefully and made her work for her sister's medical bills where he should have protected her than abandoned his daughter at that stage where for years she was in depression and was suicidal and when all that wasn't enough that restaurant incident. OP’s dad essentially turned his back on his own blood daughter for another woman’s child for no good reason. It blows my mind how parents can so easily turn their backs on their own children. And her sister going behind her back to sleep with her boyfriend for over 4 months is beyond gross. She probably was jealous of OP. Here's a good idea if I was in this reddit posters place I would wait just long enough until the child is old enough to know the difference between right and wrong and drop the whole story of how their parents met in an email, text, voicemail, in the regular mail, and any other way I could think of even accepting any advice from friends and all others and what they did to me in excruciating discomfort causing detail I would tell everyone in their town jobs and everyone I can and just to rub salt in the wound I would use every kind of term to describe the parents making it so colorful that when the parents find out they would be so furious they would have to be committed to a mental clinic after they hear my name at any gathering. The story is heartbreaking, but one thing I'll never get about Reddit is the fact they start saying your parents "pushed responsibilities onto you". This is ofc utter bs. 1. It's absolutely normal that elder siblings take care of the younger ones and no, this isn't negotiable, it's part of being in the family unit. Sure they aren't a parent substitute, but in this situation it's more than justified to demand extra support from EVERYONE, including her sister. 2. For centuries parents, especially fathers weren't at home most of the time, so even historically, the mothers and siblings were basically the parents. So yeah... I understand OP and her actions, that's a different story, but no, the parents didn't overstep their parental authority by demanding that the sibling helps her sick sister.

They actually did. Demanding she drop every extra curricular is overstepping. Also having her take her to every appointment, and requiring her whole paycheck for her medical bills. Is overstepping. This isnt the old ages, and as someone who was pretty much handed all their siblings with no help from either parental unit, while working at 16, going to school, never really seeing friends. Thats overstepping, and punishing her when she rightfully got upset about ONE thing she enjoyed.... Her step mom even admitted they overstepped and got to tied up in her own emotions thinking she wasnt going to live. And no, Im not upset about that part, because its understandable....But she knows she overstepped, and put to much expectations on OP. Children, teens especially, need to have freedom and socializing. OP is a wonderful sibling for willingly doing everything, but she should never have been expected or asked to do those things...She shouldve been allowed to stay in Volleyball as a compromise for dropping everything else she had to.

@@deathberryjam907 I mean I don't disagree in this case and under this circumstances, as the sister already did a very large amount of support work/help. But I sometimes feel that Reddit has this unrealistic and imho just priviledged view on childhood. Life isn't a piece of cake and it's not only ok, but sometimes necesarry (as a parenting instrument or just due to circumstances) that children take on responsibilities way earlier that what people think is appropriate. We luckily aren't in the dark ages and while there's some missed opportunities (just like anywhere in life) it's imho not such a big deal.

Nah, that's called parentification, and it's extremely unhealthy for kids. As long as it's only occasionally, and it's not the sort of thing that interferes in the older kid's normal lives, it's fine, but if they're on the hook to be a babysitter at every turn, that's just the parents taking advantage of them and robbing them of their childhood.
