yeah, the daughter was 13 when he left, that's too young to be fully responsible of her actions, and for 13 years, she grew up seeing her mother ignoring her father, it was kinda the norm for her, she didn't know any better glad he rebuilt his relationship with her.

That's pretty standard for how men are treated, they don't notice if you're there or not until they need money or something needs to be fixed. Leave for a few hours and they probably won't notice you're gone. Leave for two minutes when they need something from you and you're evil incarnate. Get over it.

My Grandma told me about the tramps from when she was a little girl. Decent, homeless men who would travel around outside pretty much outside of society. The accepted thing was to give them a cup of tea when they asked. You'd also give them bread and butter (and, if you had it, cake). They then go on their way again. How many of these men were like OP? I am in tears reading this. Why enter into a contract of marriage if you're going to cheat?

@@BK-tp6jf I totally understand and respect people who just want to stay with one partner for life, I mean personally I could never imagine being poly myself, but that's not what I was saying, I was saying that if somebody isn't going to want to remain monogamous, they shouldn't be in a monogamous relationship. If people want to be monogamous, poly, whatever, I don't care, fine by me, but I think what matters is that all parties involved are aware, consent, and, of course, as you pointed out, that std testing is frequently used along with protection.

If you actually listened to everything you would have heard he was later diagnosed for ptsd depression and something else, he had to be admitted into a psychiatric hospital for treatment and that he was on suicide watch. If you heard all that do you really think he was in a position to say ok all that doesn’t matter when it’s my daughter I’ll just keep rational? Seriously, the man was barely able to stay alive, he had suicide thoughts right left and center, he was breaking mentally and your only thought is to guilt trip him with “but why leave the daughter? She didn’t do anything. “This is why mental health isn’t getting treated enough, because people who are supposed to be rational and thinking just don’t think. So here’s the answer to your unthinking and rather self righteous question. A broken mind cant think to coddle other people when it’s trying to justify its own death.

This is a perfect example of a man who hated his life. It is so sad to see because I feel like nowadays I can see it in many peoples faces. I think that he had build up of how much he wanted to start new and then out of no where the only thing that made him want to keep waking up everyday was shattered. This is a pure example of losing absolutely everything. I know people have a hard time justifying the way this guy handled his situation but if I am honest listening to all this if many of us were in this situation we would be the same way. Most of these reddit stories the OP has someone or multiple people to get them through it or even an animal. I am glad he found his way back to some semblance of happiness. Poor man. Head up.

When OP was talking about feeling nothing and everything sounding muffled, it reminded me of when my dad confessed to us that he was having an affair with a young woman in his hometown. He said her parents were basically selling her to him since he was considered rich there. He even went to hotels with her but he insisted that nothing sexual ever happened, only kissing at most (I never believed this). I remember feeling the same way OP did. Years later, my sister showed me a photo she found from our dad’s phone of him and a younger girl in a towel. The girl looked younger than me. It was a short while after that that my mom revealed to me that she had known he was cheating with multiple college students that he and his charity club were sponsoring. I just find it ironic that he kept bashing his clubmates before about how they’re all cheaters and their wives all like him because he’s the only loyal man there and how he convinced one member to stop cheating. He made it seem like he was changing them, but, in reality, they were changing him. He had always been a misogynist but I didn’t consider him full trash when I was a kid because I thought at least he was loyal, but I have no love left for him ever since my sister showed me that photo.

OP, no one saved you. You saved yourself and the process made you stronger and wiser. You're not broken. You're mended and the cracks of a break always show through, but they make us what we are. Maybe the cracks made you less blindly trusting, but that's not all bad either since not everyone out in the world has your best interest at heart and there are people who would love to use you. If and when you're ready to be more social, you have some skills that you could teach to adults- hunting and other things that you do to survive on your own.... Lots of people would LOVE to learn that sort of thing, and would pay good money for it or trade for things you want. It's also a way to make connections without having to be responsible to those people for life. It's awesome that you healed enough to see your daughter clearly. You said that she was shocked when you told your wife that you knew about the affair. Kids rarely think of their parents as worthy of their gratitude. She just hadn't ever thought about thanking you because it wasn't modeled for her by her Mom. I thank my husband for driving us places when he drives and for cooking for us or buying us a nice dinner out. I try to keep in mind that I'm modeling politeness and gratitude for my son and it's panned out.

Knowing what the possible consequences of divorce are for men any sane husband would take the time to gather evidence and/or file for divorce before they even say a word to the wife.
