IMO there aren't too many virtuoso players that are also incredible composer/writers, but holy crap this guy is absolutely phenomenal in every aspect
At age of 55 Charles inspired me to start playing on my bass again after a 25 year break. I even bought a brand new Fender. Thank you for the inspiration Charles.

Like all of us with any kind of art. I often felt discouraged by seeing art that is much better than my art. There will always be someone better than us (unless we're literally the best), but art is mostly about enjoying while doing it. And Charles is enjoying the hell out of that bass, it seems XD skills improve gradually, as long as we don't give up on practicing and stay determined, we won't get discouraged. And the inspiration part will help us close the gap :D

I have been listening to this track for a year on end now. I need a need to binge on it every so often, it feeds my soul.. and for days after I can't have a moment of free thought that doesn't include that last tap section with the double kick drum behind it. it's phenomenal, truly, Just a passing thought,,,

What I like about Charles is no matter how technically advances his skills become his stuff still sounds like music. My biggest beef with some unbelievably talented bass players is that they are so good they aren't a pleasure to listen to anymore. Charles stuff is always music to my ears!

I have the same issues with certain guitarists who are technical phenoms, such as Steve Vai or Yngwe Malmsteen , but how about just writing a song. They could take a lesson on songwriting from someone like Angus Young - just write a song, please, and quit showing off your mastery of math formulas. 😺

Reminds me of my sister playing her cello. Many cello music is played close to the edge of the fingerboard. She asked her teacher why to take so much trouble, trying to make a cello sound exactly like a violin. Why not play that music on a violin?! Get real!

@@voornaam3191 My brother writes orchestral music and used to play cello. I asked him about the same thing and apparently you get a darker tone from playing a cello in the higher part of its range than you do from a violin.

My dad would have loved this video. He played Bass for 60+ years and was always looking for some great players. Sadly he passed in 2014. He had many Basses and he gave some away to young musicians. We had a Christian band from South America travel around and they came to our home church. The airline lost the Bass player's Bass and dad had a new Kubicki 5 string and he just gave it to the young player. Said if you are going to play for the Lord, you should play on one of the best there is. The dude was crying. But that was just dad. He would have loved to sit and watch you guys' videos for hours. He would call me all the time if he found a great video. Thanks for all your hard work. I posted this on Davie's channel too!

Absolutely! Just played it back at 0.25x speed and it’s still too fast to follow exactly what he’s playing there. The other impressive aspect of the slowed down playback is the sheer precision he maintains at speed.

After playing bass for a decade, life happened and I stopped playing for almost 15 years. Today I bought a new bass and am starting over from scratch.
