I have a monster All American Pressure Canner, 925= 25 quarts. I have a Kenmore Model 790. Furthermore, I have pressure canned with this setup for over 10 years. My Kenmore stove says to not have any pot that extends more than 1 inch past the outer ring on the element. Mine is 1/4" past the limit .. Sue me. lol The stove manual does make some good points, though ... NEVER run the oven while pressure canning, too much heat, NEVER run the pressure canner longer than 2 hours straight, and NEVER set the element temp dial to MAX/HIGH when attempting to bring a cold pressure canner up to steam mode, turn it to about 8/10, to give the glass top stove a chance to cycle while heating, which gives it a chance to cool a bit. My model stove can hold a max of 50 pounds of combined weight, A 925 All American Pressure Canner weighs 25 pounds but with water and jars in it, which can add another 20 to 30 pounds, I'm careful because I'm at the stove limit. PS: I used an outdoor BBQ with a propane side burner, but because the pressure canner was COLD when I first placed it on the burner, I have about 2 pound of SOOT all over the bottom and up the sides of my shiny pressure canner, it now looks like it's 50 years old. It took forever to clean the canner without inducing a million micro scratches.

I have the same exact stove! Last night we pressure canned 20 pints of chicken, broth, and bone broth. We didn’t make any mistakes and all of the pints sealed. Thank goodness! We did however learn ways of doing canning more efficiently, as it took all day to cook 3 whole chickens in our instant pot and make the bone broth as well as pressure canning it all. Being our first time, my hubby and I are both happy with the outcome! Pressure canning chicken breast and hamburger tonight and tomorrow night as well. :)

What do you think of using the 16qt presto pressure canner since it doesn’t have that gauge on top?

  • @AllAboutTheHarvest

    @AllAboutTheHarvest

    Жыл бұрын

Personally I like the dial gauge because I can see where I'm at pressure wise. With weighted gauge pressure canners you can 'hear' when it is at the correct pressure but I feel like there is room for error in the beginning. If you let too much steam out (because when it moves it let's steam/water out), you can run the risk of boiling your canner dry). On the other hand, with the dial gauge you need to get it tested regularly to verify it is reading accurately (this is usually done for free at a local extension office, or you can send in to presto to have them check it). There are other things, but those are some things to think about. I would always get one with a dial pressure gauge personally.

You'd have to weigh the pros and cons AND it would depend on how heavy your pressure canner is. If you are using a lighter one like the Presto, that will always be better from a weight perspective. Also, some people say things that are older were built better. Finally, if you have water bath canned with success on that stove I would think you could pressure can with no problem. But again, the ultimate decision is up to you. If it were me, I would do it.

I verified this that the canners are made with cast aluminum from WAFCO (the company that makes the All American canners). It is made from Cast Aluminum, not billet aluminum. They used to have that on their website, then they revamped their website completely and it wasn't listed on their site. So I reached out to them in an email and this was their response: To follow up to your question about what the pressure canners are made of: it is made of cast aluminum. It is not made of billet aluminum. I will work to get this added to our website so it can be verified on there in the future."

I'm a newbie . Bought a 16 quart Presto pressure canner and having trouble with siphoning. I find it difficult to maintain right temperatures. ALL my jars siphoned about 1 inch below headspace. I'm so frustrated and giving up on canning... Help!

With my 23 quart presto I end up turning it to the lowest settings to maintain the pressure heat after it has reached and surpassed the minimal pressure. I do this slowly and gradually. Also, liquids that siphon out can be caused by various things. Make sure you let your pressure canner cool naturally on it's own. Don't force cool it at all or take the pressure regulator (or weighted gauge) off too soon.

So if the bottom of my canner is slightly wobbly on a flat surface, I shouldn’t use it?

I just received mine. The Manuel says we should have gotten the red top 5lb. My question is on the lid one side has the little rod sticking out to lock in but my other side doesn't. Is that how it is supposed to be? I'm thinking I got sent a return item.

I have ordered a 23Qt Presto canner and I just found out that the max weight capacity per the 8inch burner is 50lbs. Is it still safe to can?? How many Qts can I put inside the pressure cooker at one time?? Thank you for this video.

  • @AllAboutTheHarvest

That pressure canner fits 7 quart jars. If your stovetop only allows for 50lbs of weight I would weigh the pressure canner with the water and lid on. Then you will know how much available weight you have for canning jars filled with food. You should still be fine to can all 7 quarts at one time.

The induction cook top does not accept canners that do not have a magnetic bottom, you need a transfer plate to use them.

@Good View here is the link to the free guide to canning. www.allabouttheharvest.com/canningguide I appologize, the link I had listed, WAS where I housed the free canning guide and I recently changed where that link pointed when I started offering my pre-recorded canning course a few months ago. I have updated the link in the description to point to the free introductory canning guide now. And yes, the guide is free :-)

That isn't true for all models which is why I stress that you consult your manual. I have a Samsung glass top stove and they tested safe at 65 pounds.

In the nicest way possible it is a little frustrating that in the first 7 or 9 minutes the same thing is repeated and it doesn't add to the video. I would have said it in private but I don't have your email address. Sorry though

The KZread algorithm ranks longer videos higher, so going over 10 minutes is suggested. If everyone is doing over 10 minutes, then that is a starting point, so many people do 13-17 min videos. It's annoying as heck, especially is they don't give you a table showing their video subjects in description or split the video into segments on the scroll bar.

  • @AllAboutTheHarvest

Thank you!! I do have a couple scratches (my friend dragged my canner across the stove without lifting it). I DO clean my stove with baking soda and a little water to get the burnt food off the stovetop. I use a nylon (non-abrasive) scrubby as well. That works nicely.
