She does a phenomenal job just like Mary Beard but every time I hear her I can't help but wait for her to say something profoundly stupid because she has the exact voice/accent of Philomena Cunk!! LMAO
I have NEVER enjoyed a documentary of Egypt more than this one! It had an actual story from beginning to end of a loving couple. I actually felt emotionally engaged during the entire program which is unusual because while I have watched no less than 100 of them, none had my full attention let alone make me totally care about the main subjects, so well done & thank you for an exceptional job of bringing this story to life.

This production was exquisite. I think anyone who follows ancient Egypt history will learn an incredible amount of truth and enlightenment from Dr. Fletcher and her amazing research and understanding.
This is by far the best, most interesting and moving of all the documentaries done by Dr. Fletcher I have ever seen. It was quite moving to see her becomeing so emotional when she was in front of once was the final resting place of a real person, basically seeing her going back in time, the only way, I believe, there is to really understand history. Brava Dr. Fletcher, wonderful job, and thank you also for letting us see your inner beauty.
Joann Fletcher and Mary Beard give us just the best and most up close understanding of the ancient world.

Its interesting to see the copper chisel since the way its constructed is in line with prehistoric finds in the UK and those copper chisels are made the same way. Crazy how these cultures seemingly had not a lot of interaction with one another but have the same style of tool.

My, what excellent viewing this was. I was really drawn into this world by Dr Fletcher and I was totally enthralled by all she was telling and educating me about ancient Egypt. I was to say a massive thank you to all involved with the initial making of the programme and also to Odyssey.
This was absolutely riveting from the beginning to the end. I was fully emersed in this journey, thank you.
I believe that all of the looted items should be returned to where they came from. Grave robbers have no right to expect to keep their stolen property.
Such knowledge gained through meritorious work by a great student of Egyptian history.

Beautiful doc. A question : In which part of the west valley were you with Dr Cross, where the guard house is seen ( 32 min. ca.) ? And where do you arrive with the jeep later in the video (1 h 11 m. ca.)? Maybe the branch on the left before to arrive at the tomb of Ay ? Thank you. Luke

She's one of my favorites.
Omg what a beautifull colors in the painting s
Ahmenoptep the 3rd's statue at 18:59 into Joanne's excellent vocast has been carved out of what looks like marble and this is where I get on the train that takes us to the conclusion that something more than copper tools were available to these people. The precision work on Ahmenopten's race is astoundingly well done and that, boys and girls, brings us once again to the biggest question of antiquity: why aren't we finding the tools that were used on carving the hardest stones in the world: diorite, shist, black and rose marble and others?

@@mandiemoore3272 GGGGGGGGGGGGreat to hear from you. There is one thing about any talk of advanced technology that makes you have the only answer with proper facts. There have been no tools of high precision ever found, but whoever they were, they knew things that are astounding. The king's chamber, queen's chamber and the lower chamber in The Great Pyramid of Giza are the same proportions as Mercury, Venus and the Earth. There are expansion joints in it. It is the only 8-sided pyramid in the world. It clocks in the spring and autumn equinox's on the minute and this can only be seen from a thousand feet up in the air...

I felt sad for Karr, I'm sure Merrit died very young. I felt his pain of raising his daughter by himself without the love of his life.
I am so sick of this channel just renaming Dr. Fletcher's old documentaries like she made something new. I keep falling for it, get super excited to watch it just to be disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I still watched it, but I would have done that anyway, I didn't need to be tricked.

What an amazing discovery! Not to mention the amazing journey that you have taken me on. I so appreciate it, and totally was engrossed in this loving couples life! ⚘️
Merit is just the Egyptian word for “beloved” as in Merri, and the T just indicates she was female. The T might even have been silent. Her name today is basically, “Mary.”
Great otter action today! Wonder if the fourth otter was a prodigal child returning home?
It is HIGHLY misleading to imply that the tomb of Kha and Merit is representative of that of "Common", everyday Egyptians. Kha was Chief Architect to three Pharaohs, and his luxuriously furnished tomb, which included gold items given to him by the Pharaohs whose tombs he built, is more like that of a minor member of royalty than that of a common Egyptian. Literally 95 percent of Egyptians were poor farmers who could not hope for such luxuries. Most probably could not afford mummification.
To call this family, the average Egyptian, is like saying Steve Jobs family life is the average for Americans.
So amazing But the archaeologists took everything the same as the tomb raiders did.... Those items were in there for Kha and Meryt's afterlife... Not that I believe or know anything about the afterlife... but WHAT IF... what if the removal of those items means they struggle in the afterlife. It would be nice if, for once, the scientists and archaeologists would leave the places they discover intact, as they were set up to be thousands oof years ago. Removal of the items, either by tomb raiders or archaeologists...is the same thing....... Study it, document it, leave it intact. If that was my grave, I'd be a pissed off ghost!

I notice how as the rooms of the house join, there is a little “door” to the next room, all but the kitchen has this “door”. And I wonder why the houses were built so close together like that?
In Ancient Egypt, I would probably be a peasant farmer toiling from sunrise to sunset harvesting crops and trying to get good food on my table.

As much as I enjoy these documentaries I can't help thinking it is wrong to be emptying the tombs, these things were put in there for a purpose. Look and learn but disturbing the tombs is on a par with grave robbing. Interested in others' views.

I totally agree but sadly, people have been robbing graves since humans began to bury their dead. Greed, dire need, disrespect for the dead person, all sorts of reasons are given but none of them are acceptable to me.

How were Merit and Kar buried in the same tomb?
I find it hard to believe that an ancient people who built the pyramids, apparently with wooden mallets and chisels, only built these small stone houses.
