Joanna Lumley embarks on a childhood dream to travel the length of the Nile river, from the Mediterranean to its source. In this first episode, she travels from (what is now a modern city) called Alexandria to Cairo. Whilst there, she visits Cairo's famous bazaar and takes a camel ride through the streets to visit the pyramids at Giza. From Cairo, she then takes the overnight train to Luxor in a first class coach with a very nice sleeper bed. Once there, she embarks on a Nile cruise ship to Aswan. The ship is also quite luxurious and gives her beautiful views of the river and life along its banks.
Welcome to the History Channel, the home of gripping and powerful documentaries. Here you can watch both full length documentaries and series that explore some of the most comprehensive pieces of world history.

Can't she simply tour the whole world and narrate it to us? She is EXCEPTIONAL!
Along side David Attenborough, Joanna Lumley is my most favourite narrator. Her voice is mesmerising like David's and her injections of humour are perfect. I am hooked.

Joanna is an accomplished actress but her personal sense of adventure, passion to culture and arts, spontaneity and humour make this video most entertaining to watch. Love her.

No longer watch her due to her pushing for vaccine passports.
She has my vote for woman of the year! Love that she doesn’t let anything stop her adventurous spirit!♥️ She does everything with class and humor.
she makes everyone feel comfortable and ''at her level'' she has a lot of respect for anyone she speaks to and for each tradition and custom
Such a treat listening to proper English being spoken.

Splendid isn't it, spoken by a queen, an african queen!
The look on her face when being told the stones to build the pyramids levitated themselves and the incantations etc was priceless. Proof of her acting skills but her kindness as well.

Joanna Lumley has such a soothing voice. I really love watching her series.
I love Joanna and I have watched ALL of her travel series in netflix. I can watch these over and over again. There is something about her that is so mesmerising...Joanna exudes class, sophistication, and she is so very kind and respectful towards other people and culture. I would love to watch more of her travel series in netflix!!
Joanna is so funny. She makes what would be just another documentary on the Nile interesting and shows a good deal more of things as they really are.
Joanna Lumley is simply wonderful. Full of energy, curiosity and kindness. She makes me laugh, intrigued and glued to the screen. She makes this series!!
Joanna Lumley what a charming lady. Born in India in 1946, and blessed with the spirit of adventure.
Never a dull moment with Joanna! Her voice can cure.
My friends and I toured Egypt in early 2011; during this tour I had realized a long life dream I had since childhood mesmerized by the glossy photos from my grandfather's encyclopedia. The visit did not disappoint but went onto confirm my love for Ancient Egypt, which was topped up by the charm and warmth of its people. I loved this series and I love Egypt!

Hi, I visited Egypt 23 Times, travelled across the country using local transport. What an experience👍
I love Joanna Lumley. She's so non- judging and looks for beauty and fun everywhere. She's also so lovely to everyone she meets
Joanna is very much suited to be a tour guide. Her descriptions give me a feeling of being there.
This is my third time watching this video. I love Joanna Lumley, she is smart, passionate, very witty and her voice is mesmerising and addictive. I also love watching the Nile as it brings back a lot of beautiful memories of our trip on the Nile. I was awestruck that the Temples were 5,000 year old which has left an impression on me forever !!
I absolutely enjoy the way Joanna presents the Nile, the land and the people. Joanna just naturally melts in with the people she meets and love her sense of humour.

Hello how’re you doing?
Fallen in love with Joanna, a wonderful smile, velvet voice, adventurous , respectful and down to earth.
Joanna is thoroughly delightful, such a captivating guide, storyteller, and narrator.
Is she not just lovely? I think Joanna was simply born with style and grace. As a westerner in the center of the US, I have followed Joanna Lumley’s career for years and simply love all her charms.

Tracy M you're not born with it. It's bred into you or not.
She is fascinating. She is the best presenter of a documentary
i worked on the subtitle for this show in 2011. i think it was for ep 2 and 3, and those episodes made me really want to go to egypt. luckily i got the opportunity to do so a year later. i really need to thank this show. and i'm glad i found it on youtube now!
This woman is an absolute treasure! have always adored her in everything especially AbFab. However, what an outstanding presenter! I’m glued to the screen...she’s just simply amazing
To be able to travel in luxury, with a guide and not have to worry about money? I think I could do that. Watching Joanna is a great pleasure in itself, and a treat to the senses. For me at least, beautiful a woman as she is, I find her voice the best part of her. Sensuous and soothing at the same time.

40:06 It's hilarious when she tries not to laugh or otherwise express derision when the boat pilot says that the Ancient Egyptians used magic wands and incantations to levitate the giant stones used to construct the Pyramids at Giza.

If everyone in europe and western world was like Joanna, there would have been no wars, no sanctions on nations, no global warmings, no famines. She is truly beautiful soul
Joanna Lumley is absolutely delightful. I enjoy this documantry so much.
These Joanna programs are incredible. The history, culture, music, faith, food. I love the humanity and ability to connect with everyone. Beautiful to watch and so relaxing. Fantastic sense of humour without disrespect. Learning the language and following customs demonstrates so much respect. Off beaten path is best way see real world ❤❤❤
I have just found and started this, and already Joanna's charisma is lifting my spirits. This promises to be so intriguing and fascinating.
Joanna has the most beautiful voice 🥰 Great Documentary!
Joanna is beautiful, elegant, kind, sophisticated and yet so down to earth. Her voice is melodic and soothing. I watch her forever.

OMG OMG I LOVE JOANNA LUMLEY AND EGYPT....PERFECTION.
I did this trip while serving with UN peacekeeping forces in Lebanon 1993. Me and a friend made the trip in green army uniform. Cairo to Aswan. Trains and floating luxury hotel. Head of UN was an man from Egypt at the time so we were treated as kings, all Egyptians our friends. All museums for free, super bargain on boats, trains, planes and hotel. Happy memories to see this.
Love this. She gives a really idea of what Egypt is like. Most docs give you a glossed over glimpse. She's very excited and willing to discover which is lovely. Thanks it's bringing back great memories of my recent trip to Egypt. I am excited to see the rest of the series.
I would highly recommend watching this and I cannot wait to see the next one. Thank you Joanna for taking the stuffiness out of this lovely documentary of yours, please do more of them !!
Joanna is a magician, give every thing to her and she makes a perfect documentary of it.
By far the best docos on Egypt i have seen. Honest and down to earth. Love Joanna. She is brilliant at this.
I have always loved Joanna's work in TV and movies, but this is a big surprise. It is not that I dislike it not at all she has given people a good preview of what we that have been before love about Egypt's people, land, and history.
Here because of her Silk Road Adventure on Netflix! Elegantly charming, with a great sense of humour, genuine kindness and great social skills. Love her so much ❤️❤️❤️

Ohhh, but the tingling feeling you get when you step into the soil, touch the temples that have adorned not only those for whom they were intended but the ones that come & gone since ... you feel 'history' passing through you. I was overcome with emotion and cried standing on top of the 5th row of stones on the Grand Pyramid, just remembering I still get the chills! You have to go!
Superb documentary, thank you very much ! I love Joanna Lumley, one of the best British TV presenters ever.
I think there are couple of big rivers going from south to north in Asia, Lena and Amur. This series as all of Joanna's travel series is a very relaxig to watch. Thanks!
Joanne's voice is the most relaxing in the world. I could listen to her describe how she tweezes her brows and be entranced.
Just love her voice. So therapeutic listening to her. Lovely woman
