    Brett, if I’m taking GMAT end of this year, do I have to worry about the added questions considering the new book is out?????or is this just for 2021 exams?

    As I mentioned in the video, the 92 new questions aren't new topic areas for the GMAT. They're question types that have been on the GMAT in the past and are currently on the GMAT, so make sure you're prepared for them even if you're taking the GMAT later this year. The GMAC is weird with the way they title their Official Guides. They always release the new edition about halfway through the year and title it for the following year! So even though this latest edition is called the "2021" Official Guide, it's still applicable for 2020 administrations of the exam.

    Hi! Thank you for this video! Can i ask, what is the difference between GMAT OG 2020 and GMAT Quant/Verbal Review 2020? I thought it's the same thing just two books together in one OG... Which of them should i use first? Sorry i'm just a "freshman" in all this thing... And thank you one more time!

    No need to apologize, it is a bit confusing. The "GMAT OG 2020" is the "main" Official Guide. It's the one you should use first. Then, if you still want additional practice after completing all of the questions in that book, that's where the Quant/Verbal Review books come in. They're compendiums of additional practice questions in the respective sections. The questions in those books are NOT the same as what's in the main "GMAT OG 2020." I hope this clears it up for you. Let me know if you have any further questions. P.S. You're welcome! Glad you found this video helpful.

    I am still new to all of this, and I just decided to start preparing for the GMAT but I have some questions: What is the difference between the GMAT Official Guide, the GMAT Quantitative Review, and the GMAT Verbal Review? Is there only one test, like a general one, or more than one test, for example, a quantitative GMAT test and a verbal GMAT test? And does each business school require a specific GMAT test or do they all require the same one? Thank you.

  • @dominatethegmat

    Good questions. There's only one GMAT exam. If a school you're targeting requires the GMAT, there's no ambiguity as to which one they're taking about. Here's a direct link to the main GMAT website so that you know you're in the right place: www.mba.com/exams/gmat?nav=header. (Note: By contrast, there are concept-specific GRE Subject Tests that are required by some graduate programs; the GRE I'm talking about in this video is the GRE General Test, which is the counterpart to the GMAT. There aren't anything like "subject tests" in the GMAT world.) In terms of the guides, the GMAT Official Guide is the "main" guide that includes some basic instruction for each of the question types and then ~1,000 practice questions. That's the one to start with. The GMAT Quantitative Review is a supplemental book with extra practice questions specifically targeting the two main quantitative question types, Problem Solving and Data Sufficiency. Likewise, the GMAT Verbal Review is a supplemental book with extra practice questions specifically targeting the three main verbal question types, Sentence Correction, Critical Reasoning, and Reading Comprehension. Most students will get plenty of practice with the 1,000 question in the main OG, but if you're looking for more, that's when you'd grab the Quantitative and/or Verbal Review guides.

    How long do you usually need to study before taking the exam? Is few months sufficient?

  • @dominatethegmat

    @dominatethegmat

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes, 2-3 months is a pretty good rule of thumb if you're starting from scratch. Statistically, most people who score higher than 600 on the GMAT prepare between 80-100 hours. To give you an idea, my comprehensive prep course is designed around an 8-week syllabus. Some students stretch it longer than that, but most find that to be an ideal timeframe to get a great score.

    Hello Sir, I will be writing my GMAT again later this year, the books I will be using are - 1. Gmat Official Guide 2020 and 2021 including each separate guide of quants and verbal. 2. Kaplan Prep Plus 2020 3. Kaplan 800 4. Gmat club questions I have 3 months, is this enough or should I also use manhattan guides?

  • @dominatethegmat

    @dominatethegmat

    Are you using those books for practice problems or for instruction? If for instruction, I'm not sure any of them will teach you the underlying content and strategies as thoroughly as you'll need. If for practice problems, then those books should be more than enough -- no need to add Manhattan on top of them. I would caution you about GMAT Club, though. Check the source of the questions you're doing, as they're not always representative of real GMAT questions.

    It varies from year to year, but there haven't been major changes in several editions. For example, the 2022 GMAT Official Guide was just released and it's nearly identical to the 2021 version discussed in this video. They added a chapter with some verbal instruction and removed three practice questions (1 from the Critical Reasoning chapter, 2 from the Sentence Correction chapter) but everything else is the same.
