no copyright infringement intended. The movie is not mine, the reactions are not mine, only the hard work, time, and dedication of putting this all together is mine. I wouldn't call myself a hero, cause what's a hero? But sometimes, there's a man....

Funny when the reactors are saying "What's in the box?!?" just as Mills is about to ask the same thing.

I will never forget seeing this in the cinema and having no idea what this movie was. I walked out of there feeling like I had just been hit in the head with a baseball bat. I also knew I had just watched a masterpiece.

Of all the reactors to this scene, EOM remains my favorite. Everyone is all, “no, don’t shoot him, don’t go down to his level and let him win”, but EOM was like, “man, empty the clip into that MF’er!” 😅

No one wins. No one comes away unscathed. Even Somerset… he didn’t get the retirement he was hoping for. He’s still going to be “around”. One of the best movies of all time IMO. Also, despite anything else, you can deny Spacey was a brilliant actor.

The only way this could’ve ended more darkly is if Mills had also tried to shoot himself after killing John Doe only to find he was out of bullets.

I have said at times that the darker more "complete" ending would be the SWAT team takes out Mills. Mills killing himself would have worked as well. As it is, John Doe "almost" wins. While Mills's life is ruined, he is still alive at the end.

What I find really interesting is that all of these reactions, taken together, are little more than a din of overlapping noise. But between the words that occasionally come through clearly, and the overall rhythm of the shared emotions, you still know exactly what's being said.

The thing is, this scene isn’t disturbing per say, it’s just very intense….. the moral dilemma between being a husband or being a cop; do I shoot him do I not? And man, Kevin Spacey is such a good fucking actor! This was before he won either of his Oscars, but it was SO good, as short as his participation was

One thing a lot of people overlook is that scene where they chase John Doe and he gets the drop on Mills. Sommerset screams Mills' name, and that's how John Doe found out who Mills was. Sure, John Doe could have found out eventually, but that one detail was enough to give him a running start. Sommerset realizes this at the end and knows that Mills' wife died because of him.

  • @YoonbeenPark

Nope. John Doe gets Mills' name earlier at the staircase (after the Sloth victim) when he gets Mills' name as the photographer (Mills: "Oh yeah? 'M-I-L-L-S' Fuck you!"; Doe: "I'm surprised you can spell!"). That's when Doe chooses the hot-headed Mills as the Wrath victim, after seeing his temper.

The most fascinating part of this movie and the reactions is seeing who says to just shoot him. This film is about exposing the wrath in the audience. The death demanded by some, or the ultimate penalty. Think of every angry sports fan, every online cancelling, doxing. This film is a commentary on wrath in the world of the onlooker
